The acetone is used for a few reasons. First reason is that it drastically reduces the sensitivity of the compound. The second reason is that it makes sure that all of the chemicals are intimately combined. Then the third reason is that when it is dried out it is no longer a powder, its more of a solid chunk so it cant spill out. Primary explosives are definitely something that requires all of your attention when you are working with them. I tested this stuff out by putting half of a single batch into some foil and taping it to an empty soup can before setting it off. It put a 1 1/2 inch hole in the can where i had it taped. Even just one primer cap full of it would most definitely split your fingers open. Its not as powerful as HMTD or TATP but its still enough to hurt you. Definitely not something you want to mix in large quantities. I could only imagine a glass jar of this stuff getting knocked off a table or a shelf. Definitely wouldn't fun. Great video though. This stuff is definitely worth keeping around.

First, Prime-All is corrosive. Don't leave your tools uncleaned after use. Since it was originally designed for percussion caps for black powder firearms, that isn't an issue. However, when using it to reuse primers, that needs to be remembered. Pretty much all primers for the past several decades have been non-corrossive, so it would be easy to forget to clean your arms after use. The acetone inactivates the compound while it is wet, so its safe to pack down WHILE WET. It also completely evaporates in a relatively short time leaving the compound completely active. There's also a hardener in the mix that is activated by the acetone, however, IMO, it isn't enough. That's where the shellac mixture comes in. It's an additional hardener and provides some moisture protection. Generally worthwhile to do if planning to store the percussion caps or primers for a while. I've also noticed that the compound "sticks" better to cleaned surfaces. If making percussion caps, the paint or plastic liner needs to be cleaned from the aluminum cans, and if reusing primers, I'd suggest cleaning them first.

A word of warning, the black powder is not carbon but probably Antimony Trisulfate which is ignited by friction or contact when combined with potassium chlorate. Antimony is poisonous so it would be a good idea to use gloves when you work with it for the same reason your would for arsenic which antimony is related to and has similar properties chemically.

Just FYI the oxidizer is potassium chlorate, the black is airfloat charcoal or lampblack, the others are ground glass or sulfur as you mentioned. I used to use this mixture to coat river pebbles, let them dry, and then it's the biggest snap you've ever heard. Hopefully one of the compounds they send also has a stabilizer mixed in, as a mix like this will go acidic over time and could spontaneously ignite.
@racktheslide47113 жыл бұрын
Okay.. so in order to keep the mixed concoction from spontaneously igniting, I should use it all up in primers, seat the primers in the brass, load the brass with powder and seat the bullet so that everything is sealed? @@John2413h Hi John, I believe that I either saw or read where the UNmixed Prime-All had a shelf life of 10 or maybe it was 20 years. Once mixed, and used in primers and seated in a round it won't degrade. I would like to hear your process, thanks.
@davidreynolds47153 жыл бұрын
@@DummyRound Okay. This is going to be a rather detailed and lengthy description of the process I employ. This is the method I use for my .308 Bolt action rifle. I remove the anvil from the primer cup. I use a punch (small tip) to remove the dimple in the primer cup. Don't try to completely remove the dimple as you could distort the cup to the point of it becoming unusable. I also use those red toy pistol caps that come in rolls. I use a leather punch to get a small enough cut out to fit in the primer cup. I put the pistol cap red side down in the primer cup. I have a shot glass with a mixedup mixture of Prime All in it. I use a pair of tweezers to grasp the primer cup and scoop up some of the Prime All, filling the cup overfull. I then use a razor blade to scrape off the excess. I put a drop of acetone on the powder and then place the anvil into the primer cup. I then place that cup into my reloading press using the gizmo that you would normally use to seat factory primers. I take a casing with a spent primer still in it and use that casing to seat the anvil. Set the now completed primer with Prime All in it aside to dry out. Instructions say to wait 24-36 hours but they seem to work just fine even after just an hour or so. I do however live in a very dry region of the country so it very well may take more time for the acetone to dry completely if you live elsewhere. A word of caution. When seating the dried primer in a case you will be reloading, be very very gentle and careful. Wear safety glasses and ear plugs. I have had 2 go off while seating them and it's a pretty big bang. Very loud and suprising! I can't tell you if they have an affect on pressure or velocity. I don't have a chronograph or a pressure sensor. The primers look fine after taking a shot and my groups @100 yards are MOA or better. That's all folks!

@@DummyRound I have tried using Prime All without using the pistol caps and have had decent results, though not as good as with the caps. I added the caps to the Prime All for two reasons. 1. Since I bought 6000 caps with the intent of using just the caps as the primer and that proved to be ineffective, I might as well add at least one to the Prime All mixture. 2. To insure ignition of the Prime All since the prep work and process is so tedious and time consuming, and I have to drive 2 hours to get to the range, I want to make damn sure they work for all the effort I have put in. I just finished 400 rounds with the Prime All compound, 90% with the caps, 10% without and I don't know which rounds are which. I'll be heading to the range this Saturday and testing them out. Probably not all 400 but most of them. Like I said somewhere, either in this post or some other one, I shoot A LOT!!! 35,000 in the last two years just because it's fun.

No body was more surprised than me when God TOOK the fishing passion out of my heart. And I do mean He took it.. in a moment.. in the blink of an eye. One day last Summer, I was all set to go fishing, had my boat loaded up and ready to go. I walked out of my back gate and it was like an angel put his hand on my chest and said 'this adventure is over'. I did go out a couple more times but the passion was completely gone. I find it REALLY strange the direction God is leading me into and I truly struggled with how to bring God's message into my newest hobby.. reloading. But, God loves soldiers and reloaders too. And also to let you know, my aim over the decades is to follow what God says is best for us and one main command is to 'owe no man'. In other words, try and not be in debt to your neighbor or your bank.. very hard to do these days when cars and houses are so expensive. But, Kymberly, as of a week ago, I am debt free. So it appears that God granted my wish to be debt free because in the period of one week, I sold the boat and 'exchanged' my house in N. Carolina ( one of my kids took over the mortgage since they are living there) and so I no longer owe any bank or person anything. And yet, we still must be humble as our only income is from Social Security and a part time income from my wife helping out at our church. So we don't have a lot of money, but we have a lot of freedom.. praise God..!

I have seen on several reloading sites where they try to dissuade anyone from trying to remove any live primers or taking apart live primers because the explosive compound is detonation ready.. already mixed and set and just waiting for the anvil to be struck. I 'personally' wouldn't go in that direction because I like all 10 of my fingers. However, if I were an extreme risk taker, I would figure out how to get the powder out of the shell first then, fill each round with acetone or rubbing alcohol, let them stand over night and in the morning dump the liquid out and then deprime the rounds. Once the primers are out, I would again, put a drop of acetone or alcohol IN the primer to assure the compound is neutralized, pop out the anvil and with a pick, remove the compound, let it dry, put it in a glass or ceramic container and with a wood or plastic skewer, gently crush and powderize the compound. Then I would scoop my new primer cups in the compound and do what I have done in this video. Or just buy a packet of Prime-All (22lrreloader.com) for $20, wait for 6 weeks for it to come in and you can make about 1,000 9mm primers with it.

Hi Su, unfortunately I am unable to test for accuracy... yet. I don't have a place near me where I can go and put up targets and if I go to the indoor range, I can't video and I also don't want them to tell me I can't shoot home reloads. Many indoor ranges won't allow home reloads. BUT, from observation, Both the Prime-All and the 'caps/powder/caps' primers are similar in their 'intensity'. I also observed that the Prime-All appeared to be of shorter flash duration whereas the caps/powder/caps burned longer and had sparks come out of the barrel.

The anvil is exactly that - a firm surface to compress the powder between it and the firing pin. Without the anvil in the primer cup, you have a Berdan primer. Berdan primers use an anvil that is cast into the cartridge case itself. That's why it isn't needed in the primer cup. Boxer primers require an "in place" anvil - and almost everything in North and South America is Boxer primed. No anvil means no compression and no compression means no ignition.

There are lots and lots of law suits against them but with trillions of $$$ at their disposal and whole communities of lawyers at their beck and call, nothing is being done to support a 'moral' youtube channel. Also, don't be surprised if they remove my channel completely as tens of thousands of Christian and conservative channels have already been removed.

Going in a new direction. God let me know it was time to settle down and find a less strenuous hobby. So sold the boat and starting a new hobby.

Awesome info, to time consuming for me. I’ll just buy premade primers
@mdees883 жыл бұрын
Good luck. You haven't been able to buy common size CCI primers for about a year now....

Hi FF.. The ONLY reason I am making primers is that.. you can find any for months and months unless you have some gold coins you want to part with.

@@SaltyKayak ya'll are idiots, gonna blow your houses up. I just bought primers from powder valley and midway usa this week. Just gotta pay attention to when they pop up in stock.
@aarong19053 жыл бұрын
@@semajniffirg230 some people have been doing stuff like this since they were 8 years old. Our houses are fine. (You're reloading area probably shouldn't be in your house). I don't recommend most people try carving logs with chainsaws either, but it's fine for those that do to share videos.

He is frisky as ever and doing a lot of surf fishing. I only see him occasionally when we are at church or we stop by and chat with each other.

Dean, thanks for asking about your hero, I mean friend, I am doing well considering the withdraw effects of missing fishing with Salty. Trying to feed my addiction with surf fishing and hoping to catch a ride to the reefs. Facebook and Church are help full also.

Is this stuff noncorrosive?
@SaltyKayak3 жыл бұрын
Was told this is the 'old school' method and the mixture is corrosive so you will need to clean your weapon after each shooting session.
@rickeygaskill73193 жыл бұрын
It is.just clean your weapon after use.
@davidemery17733 жыл бұрын
There is a group that is making non-corrosive primers on MeWe. Lookup primer reloading if your interested.
@jacobl22033 жыл бұрын
This stuff is definitely corrosive! There are actually a few (kitchen) recipes for non-mercuric/non-corrosive primers floating around. If you store this product for long term use, store each of the four ingredients separately in airtight containers.

Use a small plastic cup not Glass if that go off your going to know it. Best advice get saved now before it's too late watch Dr Gene kim UC Berkeley youtube or robert breaker youtube get saved now. Absolute dedication absolute loyalty+++
@laneadams28003 жыл бұрын
I use glass because plastic will hold static electricity. And since I have carpet all thru my house, I want to be certain nothing dramatic will happen when I touch the glass. And, I have been saved and sanctified now for 45 years. Hope to see you where the streets are made of gold and time is no more.

Might want to circle a date 2 months from today because they are way behind due to all the orders. It took 30 days for mine to come in and that was before this new administration took office.
