I spent a few days with Mick and the Z Peugeot Team on the 1987 TdF. Peugeot asked Mick to act as my host as we followed the team through Southern France. It was clear that Mick was a passionate cyclist, but I had no idea back then what a true cycling legend Mick was. It's great to see him still going strong more than 30 years later. He is a real inspiration.

God bless you ... I am 65 and cycling and racing... and people think I am crazy ..... Some say are you getting to old for this. I say no just getting started.... There is no such thing as getting old ... It's just a number. Staying fit and young is a mindset . Thank you for this video. You are an encouragement. . Keep cycling ...never stop .

I'm in my mid-60s and when I pass people on electric assisted bikes they look at me weird. 20 year olds look at me as a ridiculous old man. I do enjoy passing them!

I'm sixty, living in the Cotswolds, seeing the faces of those youngsters as you pass them on the hill, can't beat it!

In my country of canada if your over 50 people think you are too old for cycling. People also think a person rides a bicycle because he or she can't afford to buy a car . There is some backwards thinking people over here who believe bicycles shoud not be on the road and will flick ciggerette buts at you on your bike its sad .
@tdawg7134 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it depends on the part of the country. I cycle 12 months of the year in Canada, (rural and city). Every couple of years I'll get an angry horn. The rest of the time people are pretty good.

So you are saying canadians are a bit naive?
@kookamunga24584 жыл бұрын
@@doddsalfa of course they are . My neighbour works across the street at the gas station. I can throw a baseball from his yard to the gas station. What do he do ? He drives to work every day and he is only forty and no health issues . Depending on where you live one can bicycle 9 months of the year or more . Just watch some biking videos from Copenhagen, Amstredam and Oslo Norway and you see how positive cycling can be . Oslo Norway gets as much snow as Toronto , montreal and they make bicycling work all year year round . The money I save by bicycling gets spend on important things like records and cat food .

Sometimes there are benefits for not regarding what others say. Bicycling takes some coordination and you need to be willing to follow traffic rules; but it is good for us.

But who is he ? I never heard of him so he never won anything significant. I am not saying this is bad just to win local races, but this is not an an exception by far. here in Belgium or same in France, Italy, many guys do cycling all their life. It's good but not exceptional !! How about rickshaw riders who spent their entire life pushing pedals ??

He amassed 81 British championship titles and eight world masters cycling titles, including becoming a world champion in the time-trial. In 2005, as a 65-year-old pensioner, Mick became the only cyclist to complete the Tour de France route in one day less than the race itself. He was the only British male athlete to represent Great Britain internationally in the road, track, time-trial, mountain biking and cyclo-cross disciplines and to win national titles in a single season for road, time-trial, mountain biking and cyclo-cross. Mick's cycling career spanned four decades and included managing and racing for British teams, including Viscont Cycles, Peugeot Cycles and Ever Ready on the road, and Ridgeback, Scott UK and Saracen Bikes in mountain biking. He also was part of the 1990 national mountain bike team at the inaugural UCI World Mountain Bike Championships in Colorado, USA.
