My question is everyone says they are peaceful fish however I've recently noticed that three have died unexpectedly and 3 of the ones that are still alive have ripped fins one with it's back tail almost completely gone. One larger male has perfect finnage and seems to be very territorial. Is this normal or should I remove the male that seems to be chasing? I would hate to get rid of him he looks great but I don't want him to murder the rest of the group one at a time. Thank you for any feedback.

I am wanting to add these guys to my community tank (53gallon) which currently has a male plakat betta, honey gourami, harlequin rasbora, cardinal tetra, hillstream loaches, cory cats and some otos. Would these peacock gudgeons wreck havoc in the tank or would they be a good fish to add. Parameters at soft water, heavily planted, pH 7, temp 78F. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you

Are they a lot happier in a tank with both males and females? I love everything I've learned about these fish but haven't found if a male would be able to live alone without a female and stay peaceful with tetras, which would be his tank mates. I know from keeping guppies they're generally more happy in a tank with both males and females but my tank got crowded very quickly, so until I have a more established space dedicated to my tanks, I've been avoiding fish that kind of have to reproduce to be happy, like the guppies. So I would likely get one peacock gudgeon to avoid fry, only as long as the fish would be happy.

Actually it’s not the eggs they eat but the fry. In a true the fry leave the area as soon as they hatch and there tends to be lots of cover and small foods for them to eat in that cover. In a tank it’s harder to get away and usually not as much cover.

Thank you I think I'll keep rasbora's, frogs and gudgeons together. Would that be ok?

I wouldn’t hesitate trying that. Let me know how it works out.

Thank you, will do. Is a 20gallon big enough for all 3 speices. I've been advised from my pet shop to get a group of 6 frogs. Can I do 3 normal morph and 3 gold or are the different species?

You could try The Wet Spot?

can they live with multies?
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a mix I would try only because the gudgeons are not fast moving and once the multis start breeding they will probably kill them.

Hi. I know Peacock gudgeons are bottom dwellers. In a 62 gallon, 48 inch long could you have four peacock gobies, 5 corydoras, 2 Bolivian rams and a rubber lip pleco. Does this sound like too many bottom dwellers to you? I suppose I could cut the PG group down to 3, but I know they are better in bigger groups.
The color depends a lot on substrate and background color. They darken up as their surroundings get darker.

A great thing you missed about these little guys is they love to eat bladder snail eggs and other pest snail eggs
@PrimeTimeAquatics6 жыл бұрын
I wish mine did - I have them in with all kinds of snails and they ignore them.
@catfishman70326 жыл бұрын
im surprised they love them but if you have alot of natural food options in your tank it can change that, i had a tank i cycled for a few months and let the blader snails go nuts for my buddy with pea puffers and then i had over 100 clutchs in there so i put 3 in and they picked em clean in a few days, still have a small female in with them 2 month old fry shes very peaceful and controls the two snail population
