Out of all the Freshwater fish keeping channels on KZbin, yours is the best in my opinion.. You and Dean are the 2 people that I like to watch the most.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.. I am just getting back into keeping and breeding fish.. It has been several years since I have had aquariums and things have changed a bit since then.. I have been researching as much as I can before starting back up.. Right now I am torn between starting with Severums or a few of the different fish from lake Tanganyika.. Can sea shells be put into a lake Tanganyika setup ?? Being able to watch your videos has been very educational and I really want to again, say Thank You..

Over a year back in the hobby and still amazed at what took off in my decade plus out. LED lights, Apistogramma that are not Rams or ugly small brown fish, Aquascaping, a whole Universe of new plants..Barbs like Dennisons and Mascara...Pleco's didn't have serial numbers or come in stripes and dots or colors and mega prices. Albino white Arowana's....shocking! I could go on..but keep up the good work!

I’ve been using a Current USA Satellite Freshwater+ LED since Feb, 2017. So far no issues. I like the customization. I’m able to dial in the perfect lighting to make my Red Severums pop with color. I agree, a lot of the presets are gimmicky and never used.

I used Current Satellite Freshwater LED+ on three of my tanks. After 10 months of using, I've had no issues growing different types of moss, Rotala, Crypts, or carpeting plants in tanks that are 12 to 13 inches in height. I do have regular Satellite Freshwater and I wouldn't recommend for taller tanks if you're trying to grow something like Staurogyne Repens to carpet. Other than that, it does really well for the price. It's my go-to light over Finnex

I've been working on a personal project with individually addressable LEDs in strips. Each LED is RGB so you can make every color, intensity, and saturation. Its ran on an Arduino board. All really cheap ~$20 per 144LED($10-14) and the board($6-8). I wonder if as a collective we hobbyist designed an LED lights that truly does all we want, what would it be. For me, I would definitely do a sunrise and sunset mode, moveable LED clusters so you can reposition the lighting to do spotlight, ambient light, or avoid lights at certain areas, coloring hues to highlight certain fish, and replacable LEDs as obviously with a light that can do all this it would make sense to make it last a long time and modular.

Great review. Seems like a good light for the price. I wouldn't use all the light changing features or the lightening feature. I'm a simple chile, turn it on, turn it off, all that fancy stuff confuses me, 😂 👍💕👍

Would you say the current USA satellite freshwater LED plus Gives enough UVB light and heat with a raised basking area... for aquatic turtles?

No, you’d probably want a light specifically for that purpose.

Hi Jason! do you know if there’s any way to replace burned out LEDs in this light? i’ve got an older model that doesn’t have all the red LEDs working anymore (all the white and some of the blue are still ok). I know I could get a new one but i’d rather be thrifty

I don't think so. My guess it would compromise whatever seal is there and would also require some soldering?

@@PrimeTimeAquatics of course as you may remember I'm also experimenting with extreme substrates.. Crushed lava Rock several inches of spagnum then a bit of clay crushed lava stone mix. I also put a drip system in this tank, any combination might have contributed. In all honesty though what has worked for me best is PATIENCE. Did ever have spotted earth eaters or black ghost,?

My first leds were Current USAs. I played with the features the first week and never touched them again. After 5 years, all three lights I had lost one of the colors and the remotes didn’t always work. (Yes, Changed the batteries) My favorite feature was the wire extenders-but keep them clean and extend them once in a while or they will seize up. I like the built in ‘remote’ vs my old separate one which always got misplaced. I much prefer the Stingray now on smaller tanks and the Fluval on bigger tanks ($$$$). Just my two cents...
@PrimeTimeAquatics5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate you sharing! I'm not a big fan of separate remotes. Had one break on a Finnex Planted + and thankfully the light was stuck in the on position.

Alli Patton great question! The price point is about the same as the finnex, but I would say the Finnex is brighter. Both have good color, but I suspect the Finnex will grow plants better.

I found a decent light that I've been running about 2 years. It's is a pretty good light and I know this because my klenger bar swords are red as they should be. I use the Koval. I think I purchased it from Chewy. My other most recent purchased is a Fluval 3.0... it's too complicated as I can't get it "dialed" in. Sometimes "set and go" is good.

Good Morning Jason....looking for your recommendation on the best LED fixture(s) for both a high tech 75 gallon planted tank with CO2 injection as well as low/medium plant lighting which would also be color enhancing for livestock?. Also wondering which LED fixtures you utilize in your fish room for your non-planted tank? Many thanks in advance!
@TheOfficialSteelReign5 жыл бұрын
Good morning Jason. Do you have a recommendation on a good light for a 29g? Early on (Pre-Internet) I tried live plants but failed miserably. My guess is because I've never invested in lighting other than what came with the tank. I'm thinking I'd like to try again, see how it goes with the help from folks like yourself. If I can get it figured out, I'll be looking into doing a large planted sump for my 210g (although it isn't drilled so I need to figure out if there's a sump system available for non-drilled setups) to help with nitrate creep and increase the overall volume of water that I'm working with. Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.

If I was going to chose one light for common beginner plants for a 29 gallon it would probably be the Finnex Stingray 2. Nice balance of light, features, quality and cost. I did a video on that light as well. : -)

Nice light but having used both Current and Finnex I’ll take a Finnex any day over a Current. In my experience Current lights work okay however I’ve had 3 different ones and they all died within a year while the Finnex just seem to keep working without and problems. Seems like the Current lights can’t handle being around water 💦 witch is what they are designed to do. 🤑🤮
