@georgeclements27428 күн бұрын
I had the same thought, but then I remembered that the panel with 'PATCHES' ground into it was covered with thick filler. It would have needed to be taken back to bare metal and reshaped , so cutting it out and making a new panel wasn't unreasonable.

RC900 is not epoxy. its not water proof, its mainly a rust stabiliser. I would have sprayed epoxy over it after roughing and degreasing.
@matthewjenkins11618 күн бұрын
That is not what Dinitrol claim, "DINITROL RC900 is a rust converter based on organic chelate complex combined with epoxy resin. It actively converts the rust on the substrate into a stable organic iron complex. When the product dries, it forms an impenetrable barrier to further corrosion. "
@tonystanley53378 күн бұрын
@@matthewjenkins1161 Hmm it cannot be a linked polymer film though, the only things that are impenetrable need 2 parts, at the very least need to be moisture curing. Like Rust encapsulator, 2 part epoxy paint, 2 part isocyanate coatings. Having epoxy particles in solvent matrix is not moisture proof.

I've watched videos about these laser cleaners so many times, and they're all kind of useless. The cost is monstrous, the size and weight are huge, and they're less useful than a $50 stripping machine. Edd China cleaned a Range Rover frame with such a laser on his channel, and he kept raving about what a beast of a machine it was, but in the end, six months later, it turned out that they spent several dozen hours cleaning it, didn't clean a damn thing, and took the frame to be sandblasted. These lasers are a waste of money.
@Ragnar85048 күн бұрын
I kind of get weird vibes too. It looks like they're an enormous sponsoring deal, almost like the various battery packs that were doled out like candy a while ago (BlueYeti, Jacka$$ery, EcoBlow and whatever they're called). Only one of the KZbinrs I follow actually said his was garbage and broke within a few months, all the others kept raving on how great they were. I tend to get a bit suspicious if manufacturers blow an insane amount of money on sponsorship for new products.

Agreed, if it was as good as they say it is then why don’t they de-paint and de-rust the whole body and suspension parts? I’ve been looking into renting a laser machine but costs were ridiculous and I couldn’t find examples of finished work so went for the good old sandblasting instead.

Regarding Primer and rust treatment: If the RC900 treats the rust and leaves an epoxy coating, I see no reason to apply etch primer over it. Epoxy already has good adhesion (that’s why its used as an adhesive and for corrosion protective coatings like bridges). Whereas Etch primer should be applied to clean bare metal as the Phosphoric acid reacts with the metal surface ‘etching’ itself to the metal (see images of World War Two aircraft lifted from lakes and the se and witness the yellow and green colour of the then used Zinc chromate etch primer used to protect the Aluminium alloy. After using the RC900 I would overpaint with an appy primer (2 component maybe). But when grinding and polishing back to bright metal like on the Disaster Dad/son then I’d use the Etch primer, or as you did here the RC900 to convert any small unseen traces of surface rust.
