In the old days we put a shaft down the distributor hole and spun the oil pump and it put all everywhere

Exactly

That’s how I primed this engine.

Mopar makes that shaft for their engines; like you said-use an old distributor shaft...

That's why you use assembly lube on everything before you go back together. Anyone who's worked on 6.0 powerstroke aren't scared to crank that starter till it builds pressure lol. Just gotta crank wirh the key off so it doesn't hydro lock

On my Cummins for example, I took the old oil pump apart, cleaned it up, pressed the drive gear off, and then turned an aluminum dowel to press onto the pump drive so I can use my drill to prime the oil system so everything gets oiled, then swap oil pumps with my brand new one. It’s easy to get to on my motor, not always the case with v8s. Usually you can use an old screw driver cut off at the handle with a drill to prime the pump through the distributor hole.

The new chevy LS and LT need to be primed with that pressure system you showed at the end, they say the first crank up can wipe out 80% of the bearing life, dont know if thats a fact but ive heard that from mutiple sources

Daniel is right an engine needs oil before you start cranking it look at all the IDI diesel engines

I put a shaft down the distributor and spin the oil pump. Spin it with the valve covers off to make sure it’s getting to the top.

you are making a real big deal about starting the new engine. I'ts good idea to put oil in oil filter but some oil filter are upside down so you can't. Prime with electric drill. you cannot get all the air out. Stop making big deal .

Did you know that you can wipe a cam lobe flat by cranking an engine over to much?
