I really like that shelter. Tyring to think of some appropriate tree species in Australia to try the same with for a return location to build that with. We have willow in some areas (a pest species here), but the hazel is a bit of a question mark.

I remember shelters like that built along the Newry canal, just down the old Omeath road. They were covered with coal bags. I guess they camped there because the scavenging was good and they were not moved on. Whole families with little ones running about in rags. I remember as a child being horrified. Good video Wooly. How long did it take you?

Wow , that's mad , I'd say it took me 2 hrs

one word, Wooly: microfone. (seriously - whenever you walk away from the camera, it's realy hard to hear you) A little improvement for the shelter: if you lay a few thin twigs (preferably heavily forked ones) over the layer of leaves, the shelter will stay tight and hold for longer time (bc the wind will not blow the leaves away)

i thought about a wireless mike but they dont work if your not facing the camera ! so same problem, cheers for the tip though

Cooter seems to have no interest in the procedings, but also seems quite content with that. I am surprised, being on what is essentially a stick finding mission, that you the world's no 1 stick finder didn't have his nose shoved into everything you were doing. Or was that Evie's job, to keep him occupied? We did a similar thing with our kids when they were young, when we had our place up north. Those shelters stayed mostly intact for about 10 years after. So if you were teaching bushcraft for kids ( or maybe parent & child?), this would be a good one to do.
