I am by no means an expert on carpentry or building houses, but I do watch a lot of videos with people building their own homes. One thing I can say is, when they use wood for constructing, they always torch the wood to prevent termite and weather damage, makes the wood last longer. Definitely the part of the wood touching the earth, you must torch that well. Seems like a lot of work, especially when you're building alone. A house with stone and concrete walls would be a smart choice. You can build the pillars from wood still, but encase them in concrete to prevent termites getting to them. You could use a similar method like how you made the pond walls with woven bamboo to hold it together until it dries. It looks like you have a good amount of flat stones in the nearby hills you can use to build the walls as well! Stay positive Duong, your new house will be even better and stronger!

@@PrimitiveSkillsnetThe cause is probably because of rain hitting your mud walls and wood parts causing them to become more liquidy and a little rotten and since the roof is made out of purely wet wood (alot more heavier than normal wood) and also your brick walls the wood columns couldn't hold such weight and collapse. Make the columns stronger or make the roof weight less.
@COMRADEDAVEYIPPIIIII10 ай бұрын
I suggest making the columns out of strong smoked bamboo tied together and filled with concrete so that it can last more long or maybe even a couple decades. Also gather the material of the broken house and recycle them, make the same roof or smoke the old one to get rid of the wetness and also cover them in something light weighted and pretty water proof. This should allow your hut to be very strong.

My condolences. Bugs are a constant problem where we live. The bottom layer of lumber always has to be treated, or painted. Even on modern homes. The "baseplate" (first piece of wood on your foundation) is always pressure treated. I think you can replicated a treated piece of wood in a primitive setting with some type of tar or tree resin. I've also heard of people soaking the first layer in lye (wood ash soaked in water) and then re-applying the lye solution every so often. Or a can of paint would probably work, if you don't mind modern solutions.

Hello Duong, It's very impressive, I thank God you weren't inside! Please let me help you: I would like to give you a very old archaic technique: To prevent wood deterioration, you need to treat the surface of each part that will come into contact with water, and this is possible with a natural treatment : There is a natural treatment (extremely effective), I think you will like this: it is necessary to burn the surface of the wood, several millimeters deep (therefore very thin), Which blackens and covers the surface of the wood with carbon. Then pass it in water quickly, which solidifies the carbon layer. Then you have to rub with a brush to remove all the excess charcoal (let the wooden part dry too), there it is already well protected, but you can now also add a thin layer of oil that will be sucked by the wood by the treated surface because the microporous will be clogged by the oil and this chases away the water. while the charcoal hunts micro-organisms such as mold. after treating the wood as I explained (with fire and rubbing) if you don't have oil then you have to cover the wood with lime powder. but vegetable oil is really much better because it chases away water.

I agree, I think termites & rot weakened the structure, then it got wet and heavy, causing the collapse. I asked AI about traditional methods for protecting against termites and it's suggestions were: 1. Barriers such as stone or metal shielding at the base of the structure 2. Ensure the wooden structure doesn't touch the ground by using stone or masonry for the lower portion of the structure 3. Use woods that naturally resist termites (not sure if you have access to any of these) 4. Preventative maintenance and inspections, ensuring wood is kept dry to prevent rot & infestation 5. Reduce moisture wherever possible 6. Traditional repellents such as Neem Oil, Essential Oils (Eucalyptus, Orange, or Lemon), Camphor, Garlic Oil, Potash or Mud/Lime Plaster. 7. Bait and trap systems (leave some wood nearby to rot and attract termites in the area, then burn it any time an infestation occurs I hope this is helpful!

18:31 You can use baked clay bricks or adobe clay bricks with straw. Clay can be used to make roof tiles. Also treat wooden parts with resin or tar against termites.

I believe you have the skills and the capability to make a stone and mortar house if you choose. I will enjoy watching whatever house you build sir, you have been blessed with many gifts. I am also thankful no one was injured when it fell! Stay strong sir and keep working hard! You inspire many with your hard, honest work 🙏 Be blessed

At first I thought erosion shifted everything but after watching your whole video and seeing how strong the earthen walls were, how hard you had to work to knock them down, then I think not erosion shifting things but instead, I think like you, rotting wood and joists is the likely cause of the collapse. It is a lot of work lost and it won't be easy to rebuild while still maintaining the farm and doing the things you planned. Your life on the farm is hard but it is what you love. If what you love is still more than the hardship, I'll be here to see what your incredibly creative mind comes up with next. Thank you for sharing your journey.

We usually burn the base of pillar that will go in the ground to protect them from the water. I think you have to use a kind of oil too!!! ❤

I have a thought for you. Expand your kiln to accommodate bricks. Use the kiln to create the bricks you usually cannot dry in the winter. There is plenty of wood to fire the kiln after dismantling your old house. With all that wood you should be able to create an all brick home and clay tile roofing. Expanding the kiln would allow you to create lime and fire bricks at the same time. I hope everything works out for you.
