I think you likely added some already made salt to your evaporation pond. It takes a very long time to evaporate that much salt out, and you said it was overcast weather. You could have taken the remaining salt by weaving a fairly tight basket and lining it with a bit of clay if needed. You can always clean salt by desolving it back into water when you get home, then boil it briefly with egg white. The protein in the egg will clean the salt, and you can spoon the dirty scum off the top. Then you pour off the extremely salty water into a new container, leaving any sand and clay on the bottom. Leave it alone to dry and crystallise. Then you'll have bright white salt with no grittiness. Good to see you at the sea.

Salt is harvested in coastal areas by using sand to evaporate the water by raking it in the sun then washing the sand then boiling the water out. Even on a day with heavy duty work on the lathe, were the water in the tank reaches temperatures of 40-50°C (and more in the direct work area and chip bin) i evaporate only around 120 liter of water. And with around 3,5% salt in sea water, he needs to evaporate around 300 pots of water, asuming the pot holds 2-3 liter thats around 600-900 liter, to get that amount of salt.

It might be a good idea to make a traditional, large fireplace with a chimney in your bedroom back at the farm. Just to have a heat source in the bedroom during the winter, when you go to sleep. Would be good to make it safe, to prevent the fire from spreading in the house and smoking up the room. Good job on the sea salt, looks great!!! I am also surprised at the amount of sea salt, so good job on that! Don't forget to wash it from impurities when you get back home, there's a lot of dirt in that salt. If you want to prevent yourself from getting sick, make sure to wash the salt! Also, did you use the salt for the crab and clams? Very excited for you, learning how to traditionally make salt. Now you know what to do when you need more :) Salt is very useful in that you can cure many foods for long term storage. It can enhance the flavor of your foods and is an essential mineral for us~ I hope that you can bring back and store lots of salt back at your farm, to be used and experimented with often! Try adding salt to fish soup, to chicken soup, fried veggies, fried eggs. You can also make baked potatoes with salt and green onions! Or even mashed potatoes! Maybe one day you could get an animal that can produce milk? And it might be time to make some sugar! But, you don't eat sweet food a lot... Still, maybe you could make some jam with boiled sugar and berries or boiled sugar and fruits. Will you be sharing salt with your wife and kids? I'm sure they'd love to try out new recipes with the homemade salt that their father and husband made :) Maybe instead of sugar, you could start looking into making oil. You will be able to make fried foods instead of soups and grilled foods, it could make your diet more diverse. Olive oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, palm oil, sesame oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, fish oil... All of these can also add more flavor to your foods and provide more nutrients to your meals. Should be relatively easy to make. Most oils come from crushing and grinding the ingredient they come from (grind down some peanuts into a fine paste and you will get peanut butter. Separate the crushed peanuts from the liquid oil and now you have oil.) It might also be a good idea to try to harvest some seaweed (laver). Not all seaweed is edible, but if you can identify the good ones, you can also use seaweed to provide more flavor to your dishes. LOVE the fact that you went to the sea to get the salt. The scenery is absolutely magnificent. The fact that you went to a whole new location just to get one of the ingredients that you have been wanting to acquire is REALLY cool. Would love to see more of you traveling around your country and learning and hunting for things to improve your farmland.

Note: *primitive* skills are not necessarily *traditional* . To me "primitive" means much less use of advanced technologies. BTW, despite tasting sweet, bananas contain a high percentage of salt. But probably not high enough to be practical with primitive skills.

The process of salt production is called evaporation. One way to calculate it is as follows: 1. The average salt content in seawater is approximately 3.5%. 2. Therefore, 1 liter of seawater contains 0.035 kg of salt. 3. To obtain 1 kg of salt, you need to evaporate (1 / 0.035) liters of seawater. 4. This is approximately 28.57 liters of seawater per 1 kg of salt.

Salt has been acquired! Will last a long time to given the size of the meals we see you munch. Also maybe some bamboo tubes for storing the salt once its dried? Also maybe make a big rubber sheet that can be used as a floor for future salt that once waters evaporated can be tied into a bag for more salt transportation? Though I guess just making a bigger pots an easier idea.

The best thing about sea salt is now you can cure your meat with it instead of smoke. By the way, when the clam shells pop open, it means they are done. Also, back in the states, it is hard to get oyster shells open so the pry it open with a knife and serve it with hot sauce.

well done getting the salt, other than adding a bit of flavor to foods it's going to good for food preservation. if I'm not mistaken, it being sea salt it should have trace amounts of iodine which is good for you.

Duong. I don’t know what to say. I have truly loved your videos from the start because of how authentic and informative they were. I believe that is a big part of your success. However, this video disappointed me. I don’t care if something you make isn’t done “primitive” if it makes your life easier that way, because so much of what you’ve made already is done primitively. At least be honest about what you’re doing and I’ll still support you and watch you. The salt making process in this video was obviously done somehow off camera and it’s unclear why you wouldn’t explain that. I would just like you to be more upfront with your methods because this video has made me lose a little trust in this channel. I still love you and your beautiful family and wish many more years of good fortune to you ❤❤

Right, I'm 4 minutes in to this video and I wanna tell you how I did it. First, filter out all the physical contaminents out of the water (sand, silt etc). Then I just boiled it down... voilà, sea salt. You could do a lot more refining, solving the salt in fresh water, filter then boil again. The most surprising thing I found is that this method actually produces salt that is saltier than store bought salt (?).

You can't. I love this channel but I know about salt making, and this is artificially staged. This result has been achieved by adding package refined table salt until the water is supersaturated and letting the moisture dry a little. Nothing looks correct during the process. unfortunately. As a long time fan I'm disappointed he'd fabricate this but it's definitely fabricated by adding salt. To make this much salt for an area that size would take several weeks. That is a lot of salt

Now that you have access to salt, there are numerous things you can do with it. I would strongly suggest that you continue to improve your cloth weaving skills, and work towards weaving cheesecloth. You are in the forest, you are mostly alone, and if you should ever suffer a cut or injury, you will need a very fine cloth with which you can apply to the affected area to stop bleeding. Having salt will provide you with a means to create a simple saline solution to keep your cuts or wounds clean, and having something like cheesecloth will act as a bandage for first aid. You have secured food, water, and shelter. Now it is time to secure medicine.

Welcome to sea my friend Duong.

While you did make it right, it's disappointing that you cheated for the final product for the first batch. Even at 100% collection, that small spot would've only made enough to fill a small pot that would fit in one hand. With how much water and time it takes, I get it. However your rules are normal source first then cheat to aquire more. It should've been like the lime where you only got a little bit the first time and then you could get baskets on baskets next video. It also doesnt help that sea salt is crusty and solidified when done this way whereas yours is little more than dry rice. To create salt that granulated needs constant motion while its evaporating to prevent a large crystal forming. As much as i enjoy your content, this one is bad. I wouldve rather seen you boil it if you were going to cheat because at least we wouldnt be able to tell the difference without closely examining it.

@TheMixxon2 after he unlocked concrete, he emptied the pond and built concrete walls between videos. He's consistently followed the rule "unlock by doing it all one time, buy resources after" which is good for content creation as it keeps the ball rolling without wasting the real amount of time to source it the primitive way, especially considering that we've already striped most of the surface metals. The only other time I've had a problem with this kind of embellishing was acquiring the livestock that is obviously domesticated already. He acts like they're wild when he could've just bartered with his own produce and handmade equipment, like the water turbine.
@TheMixxon2
@TheMixxon2 10 ай бұрын
@@PaleGhost69 yeah, I agree. I still tho enjoyed the water turbine idea, because he paid for it with money he earned selling his own produce, and in any case I don’t think he could have managed to manufacture his own, so I think it was ok to buy it. But buying pigs was not necessary, they could have tamed wild pigs as with chickens, and the chainsaw should stay on Duong’s and his wife’s little hut there where they are building, off-screen, and that chainsaw should not appear on-screen :D But the cement yeah, probably they bought some. At least for me, the silver lining is that, if he does not want to show and hides this stuff, at least ye understands that this should be kept to a bare minimum as to avoid “breaking the fourth wall” as much as possible and this doesn’t become a casual recurring thing, so we can truly feel the vibe of the chanell where he builds everything just by himself completely !
