Would of liked to seen you create the new pond. The volume of water coming out of the pipes is amazing as they are only gravity feed. What are your plans for the barn a lot of time and effort went into it yet you only store your tools in it. I know you call it a house but you obviously don't live there so it's a barn. Ive got tired of the forging parts so I just skip over them ,yes we know you showed the concept but enough is enough.

The soft wood at the center of a palm tree is edible. Contains a lot of sugar, starch, and some other minerals. You can grind it down to powdered sugar and probably wouldn't notice a difference. In the taste, that is.
@rjwaters3
@rjwaters3 3 жыл бұрын
basically every part of that tree is useful, bar one poisonous bit of fruit around the (edible) seeds, the leaves are useful for thatching, you can get fiber out of it for rope/twine and even fishing line with a proper method and some sorting, you can tap it (e.g. like a maple tree but using a different method) and get sap that can be boiled down into jaggery (sugar) or a sour wine (fermented toddy) which can /also/ be boiled down into a treacle, and crystallized down into a sugary substance, the insides are useful as a starch and you can harvest the tree and (if done properly with respect for the limits of the tree) it will survive and still be able to reproduce
@StuffandThings_
@StuffandThings_ 3 жыл бұрын
Since its a palm, teeechnically its not wood. But yeah, pretty close. I thought you had to do a little bit of processing on it first, so seeing him just chomp down on it raw was still a bit of a shock. Palms are crazy useful though. Also, for some edible "wood" which has a better claim to being actual wood, you can eat the caudex of cycads if you process them to remove the poison first. Don't recommend that though since its kinda dangerous and many species are incredibly rare. He actually showed off a wild cycad in one of his little scenery snippets in a past video.

@P. Skills: Your ESL (English as a Second Language) lesson for today. A "Tent" is made of cloth, fabric, and/or canvass, and poles. Your building/structure would be called a "house, cottage, cabin, or hut". These words indicate a structure that has more permanence. A "Tent" usually indicates a temporary, portable structure made of fabric, poles/rods, and rope. I absolutely love your creating "something" out of "nothing" utilizing only the resources you have in your immediate surroundings !! Your persistence and hard work ..... I wish I had half of that energy !! Here in America we call people like you "Makers". You make things across a broad spectrum of disciplines ..... Tools to houses. You don't have something ?! ..... You go out and make it !! A Most admirable quality. Keep up the good work.

@Dean Foyle : Hey Mr. "Glass half empty". Your negative attitude got it completely wrong. Your outlook on life is seriously messed up !! You interpreted somebody's helping hand as an insult/offense !! I speak more than one language and ALWAYS, appreciate it when someone helps me to speak it better ! Most of my friends for the last 45 years are ESL speakers .... Including the best man at my wedding !! I live in the new richest place in America. Here, over 165 different languages are represented in our schools ! I was here when the first Boat People from Vietnam were settled here. I had a buddy who would jump up and down, in place, for warm up exercise during gym class. When I asked him why, he said it was the only exercise he had space for in the cages he was kept in after being caught trying to escape Vietnam. He tried to escape from Vietnam three times before succeeding. He got caught the first two times, and thrown in prison. On the third time, while piloting a boat with 30 other refugees, he was shot through the back of the upper right arm by the chasing Patrol boat .... But, he had to stay conscious for three days to reach safety. He was the only one out of 30 people on the boat that knew how to pilot the boat (fisherman by trade) Don't try to school me on what is appropriate when helping someone improve their language skills !! I've known, or come in contact with more Vietnamese people in one year, than you probably have in your lifetime !! Take your Ignorant, Arrogant, Misplaced outrage and stuff yourself !!

got to have the right type and size stone for that! not to mention a way to cut and shape it!!

@@keithmoore5306 anything he can work will work as a grindstone, and would be worth the effort in terms of the time and effort saved once working. He uses river Boulder for sharpening currently, if he worked an axis hole through a suitable stone , roughly chipped it to approximately a circle then worked on it over time it would work fine, even if only using the flat stone side initially until he has worked the circle surface to a usable working stone surface. Once you get in to it, stone can be worked with relatively basic tools, stone age was stone tools worked with stone

@@davidp8157 for his current needs it's not really worth the effort at present though!! and he'd be better off going with a treadle/peddle style wheel!!!

@@keithmoore5306 pretty sure I didn't mention how it was to be powered, until I bought an electric grindstone myself, when I was about 20, I spent much of my youth hand turning an old hand powered grindstone. Electric was a huge step up, but hand powered was a million times better than rubbing metal on a rock to sharpen it

I think the reason for the new water pipes, to have more water flowing over the water wheel to create more power. I could see him making some sort of grinding stones to make cornflower. But I could also be completely wrong. He does always surprise me.

You're right! And it's fascinating to watch. The sad point is that he gets to a point where the work is so intense that he has to choose between completing the work and filming. That's the problem when there's only one person doing everything. Another KZbinr, this one is from China, started by herself. She actually took footage of what she had to do to get the shots and angle shots, she said it took forever, until she became successful enough to hire a crew.

It's not illegal, you just need water rights / building permits etc. which makes it difficult. This is a good thing in a developed country, because it also prevents some random coal mining company from drying up half of Illinois. You can see here the impressive impact iron working has had on the environment of just one man, now imagine what modern technology could do unchecked. You don't want your downstream neighbour to build the hoover dam without telling anyone. ;-)
