Primitive Skills

Жыл бұрын

Hello everyone, my name is Duong.
I am 32 years old.
I live in a poor mountainous area of Vietnam.
From a young age, I had to work hard to help my parents.
Difficult life is always around, I work and learn everything from my grandparents and the old people in the village.
Gradually, I mastered the skills.
5 years ago, I decided to live the challenge.
Determined to learn about the primitive way of life, I chose to live in the wilderness, alone.
Where there's no technology and forcing yourself to pass, it feels great!
How about you? Your life is definitely different from mine.
Have fun watching the video!

I like your sink, but having the water drain directly onto your floor is going to cause some major structural problems in the future from what I have observed. Another short piece of pipe connecting the sink drain pipe to the outside drain can easily fix that.

@@bharatg124 Yes, a drain pipe from under the sink that exits through the wall behind the sink to carry water to a kitchen garden or banana circle garden would be great. This water would be great for that purpose!

I just have to be honest today for my 20 years of Plumbing experience... for what this is he did a good job... this is just a hand wash station.. essentially... it is better to come up from beneath the slab then on top of it or out of the wall that is why we don't do that in the plumbing field... he did the correct thing

It doesn't need to be sealed it only needs to fall an eighth of an inch... we need to seal things in cities for sanitary purposes.. but when you are living on the land that is not necessary

We must not forget the guy is smart, with just a little motivation he could fashion his own valves or stopcock valve either out of bamboo or wood. If he wants to keep the wood basin I would prefer he goes looking for a wider tree stump, either making stand upright and build a counter-top around or carve it horizontally as his current setup. Join a thinner diameter bamboo from the sink straight down into the bigger bamboo already buried in the ground. Now for the overflow he could have one just below the rim and back to the pond into the buried bamboo in the ground.

Great idea on the kitchen sink. A small improvement would be to make the drain pipe under the sink a little longer so your feet and legs won't get splashed while draining the sink. Nice idea!

I would also suggest building the whole kitchen on a bamboo platform or based and just using your wood or plank for the counter top, and since you are good with concrete I would say cast/mold a concrete lime sink. It would be modern, slick and totally different to what the other guys a doing. Plus you might also look into how best to control the drainage under the sink. Get taps and valves next time you go to the market or tell your wife to bring it along when visiting. 👍👌

I think with bamboo he can arrange the drainage directly to the outside pipe. Not a fan of seeing bringing modern tools/pipes etc... from market. That's not the essence of the channel, in my believe.

While he was installing the pipes, I was wondering how well bamboo valves would work. In principal, the design would be to cut a hole into the side of a thin pipe of bamboo, then to insert that pipe into a tight hole cut through the water delivery pipe, so that turning the thinner pipe would allow water through its hole or would block it. The main issue would be in making it tight enough that the water wouldn't just pass alongside the "faucet valve" and negating the whole thing. I don't know if he has the resources to harvest anything rubber-like, let alone to vulcanize it, but in a pinch, a couple of market-sourced o-rings would be better than nothing. I do agree with others that relying on the market of too many manufactured tools and parts would seem to go against the spirit of the channel, but it's up to him what he does, really. Some things, like electricity, he's just not going to be able to manage on his own, and rubber, even for small needs, might fit into that category. Anyway, there would also be the issue of handling the backup when the valve is closed, even with a properly fitted copper valve. The system isn't closed, so any water backup is going to end up spilling out somewhere along the line. That could probably be handled by cutting a notch into the top of the pipe over the drainage basin, though. Now that he has a sink, I wonder if he might have the resources to make some animal fat and lye soap. Catching the water off of the mildew-covered pipes to use for his kitchen sink kind of has me wary.

Would be interesting to see a concrete lime casts! Disagree with the valves. The turbine for lights was already a bit too advanced but it feels sensible for safety. Especially if the wife and kids want to stay over. Would be really cool to see some roman influenced tech though, could be a real hybrid with the bamboo tech~

Hello, I've been a fan of yours for a very long time and I admire your craftsmanship. I have an idea how you could solve your problem with dimensions. Cut a few bamboo sticks of the same length and scratch lines on these sticks with the knife again and again (it is best to take half again and again and then make a line with the knife until they are about 1 mm apart) if you have several If you have such rods, you must connect the ends with a nail in such a way that you get a folding rule. You can make each 10 stroke thicker and longer than the others for your orientation. As long as you only use this folding rule for your own projects, you can measure anything with it and it will be correct. I hope the google translator translates it correctly, so that you understood my idea. You build your own unit of length (folding rule) Greatings Blauzorn from Germany

He doesn't really discuss this, but I imagine that the rammed earth cabin stays relatively cool during those hot days of summer. Growing up in California, I was always amazed at how cool old Spanish adobe buildings were when you stepped inside on a hot summer day. Same basic idea, I think. Very thick earth walls make a building act like a little cave.

Проверьте жене вашей бы понравилось 😊😊😊I hope you can translate what I wrote from Russian!?😅

You might want to use some bricks to build up a basin that's sealed to the floor beneath your sink, so that you can control where the drain water goes. As you left it in this video, the drain water will go everywhere, and only some of it will end up in your drain pipe. Adding a basin beneath the sink will prevent the water from spreading across the floor, and will allow it to flood out into the basin that you have outside for the drainage pipe. On a similar note, you might want to line the basin that you have in the ground with concrete as well, so that the water doesn't just leech into the dirt and create a perpetual mud pit that will eventually clog your drain pipe and that will undermine the foundation of you kitchen floor. You might want to cut a couple of overflow notches into the top of the sink's back wall as well, so that when you have an overflow, it drains out into the proper drainage area, rather than across the countertop. Aside from that, I'm not sure how long a wooden sink will last before it succumbs to mildew or rot. If you could maybe find a wax source to help treat your surfaces and your sink in particular? That would probably help a lot. Or maybe line the basin of the sink itself with a few millimeters of concrete? Otherwise, it all looks great! I like that you seem to be building up a home, and I'm kind of wondering whether you intend to move your family out there with you or not.

The wash basin you', ve made is Excellent. But you shoud find a solution to the waste water from the basin. Now it is splashing on the floor( kitchen) which gradually cause mosses & bad smell. So try to fix a bamboo pipe adjacent to the pipe you' ve put already& connect to the ditch on the ground. Its only a suggestion 😊. Lots of love from Kerala, India 🙏🇮🇳

Happy to see these developments. I have been waiting for a long time to see you upgrade the homestead. As for my thoughts on the design? I think the next time you upgrade the sink you should make it from clay then fire that to be ceramic. As the wood will build up bacteria in the grooves over time and will rot faster. Ceramics are still what we use today. You could make a wood ash glaze to make it smooth. And you are already pretty skilled with clay. The drainage needs to be completely sealed for the same reasons and to stop the floors and foundation of the kitchen wearing out faster. Its unhygenic to have the waste water falling on the floor, because if you are washing meat or fish then it wont be healthy in a very short time. And you will have bugs and rodents.. The pipe under the sink needs to connect directly to the sewer pipe you put under ground. And a faucet to stop the flow of water when you are not using it, to make everything last longer. Otherwise everything else is really good! Well done!

Do you know what the wood/tree is called? It has a very nice colour to it. Maybe an adjoining bamboo pipe, just under the wall, to the drain that leads outside so that you don't have dirty water splashing everywhere on your kitchen floor. I don't know how well the wood sink will last against water damage, but if you feel the need you could put a layer of concrete on it to keep the wood damp free.
