From 3:12 you raise like in the guitar solos section, but I think he do the main slap starting the “pluck legato pattern” not beginning from the F (3rd fret of the D string) but lower tone plucking from the C (3rd fret of the A string). Same slap pattern but different note from the pluck legato till the E - B chord

2 years ago I got into bass guitar. It was(and still is) one of the greatest experiences of my life and i learned my first songs from this guy. ( He`s awesome btw and he deserves all the appreciation any of us can give) And when i first watched this video i was demoralized becasue I couldn`t play a single note of this properly not even when i slowed it down . It made me feel so bad I didn`t even listen to the song on it`s entirety for a year. Yesterday I felt really stuck because I was going nowhere with my bass playing. I was doing everything i practiced quite well but it was not enough. Then i clicked on this video with a huge disbelief but i still tried it. I learned the main line in an hour! I still haven`t learned the entire song but even this feels like a miracle. Always believe in yourself. :)

I've been playing for like 15 years, and that struggle never really goes away, but overcome that challenge enough and you'll hear a riff or solo or a crazy technique that sounds impossible or down right crazy and it won't be a disheartening thing, you'll actually get super excited at the prospect of learning it

Well, it's 5 years later now - I wonder if he ever got it down? Nah, just kidding, man. I'm sure it's in the bag and you've mastered it and you're DESERVEDLY proud of yourself - way to go, buddy! Yes, belief in yourself is more important than natural born talent, which goes nowhere like an expensive yacht on a day with no wind. Hard work is the wind and even a tiny boat will move with the wind in its sails. There is no finish line in this regatta, but sail on we do...strange, isn't it? Really good cover in all. This video is how I learnt how to play this song, and it's very faithful to the original, even if it's on a 4 string rather than the original recording using 6 (or 5 I can't remember). The only gripe I have is that at 3:13 it would sound closer to the original if you played it where it's supposed to be on the 5 string, but just without the low B string. When I played this version on my bass side by side with the original, it caught me off guard how low the original was compared to what I was playing, and I searched around the fretboard trying to find the right spot before I finally realized I needed a low B string to play it properly. Everything else in this tab is great. Keep doing good!

I've been playing lead guitar for nigh on 30 years, and Les has always been one of my idols... I feel for your fingers fella. Good stuff. Pro in the making. :)

3:05 on at half speed sounds insane, especially once the drums and shit come back

I used to be a fan of Les Claypool when I didn’t play bass, now that I do appreciate I appreciate his music even more

I can't imagine the methodology behind learning this, but what i'm really struggling with, is figuring out how Les came up with this.

Bravo. One of the most accurate covers I've seen. The tap at 3:12 has less slide with the right hand, more with the left, and the following change in notes is an octave too high, very minor things and still well played.

This song is *EASY* ...at about one quarter speed. Play it that way for a LONG TIME. Then *S-L-O-W-L-Y* increase the tempo _always playing it clean and in control!_ If you will just BE PATIENT, you will have it down in a matter of months. I know this will get sarcastic comments, which is fine, we're here to have fun. But for those few of you who take this seriously, this is how it's done with seemingly complicated songs like this. It's actually quite simple, just hard to play at speed. So do what the experienced teachers all say, and you''ll get it. GUARANTEED. (Note: I am a student, not a teacher. But I've done what I say here, and I'm very, very close to playing it like he does in the video. And I always thought I was a lousy bass player. Guess I was wrong.) Best of luck to you - JD, Montréal
