@jonathansefcik4734 жыл бұрын
I dont know about Les, but I remember Geddy Lee saying in interviews that it all comes down to rehearsal. You should know the song so well that playing it is like going on autopilot, and that's why he makes singing and playing at the same time look easy. He tries to write basslines that are "easy" to sing over, but sometimes the instrument and the vocals are so diametrically opposed, it takes him months to nail singing and playing it in unison.
@SubBubz4 жыл бұрын
@@jonathansefcik473 it's a skill in it's own to be able to sing and play. I can play some simple ass song I learned years ago but singing with it makes it totally different. That would go with every song you play, and Les has written many songs lol.

I know, I can't understand how he can do those complex techniques in perfect time while saying all that crazy stuff.. That's why I love so many of his live solos (dozens of which can be found on KZbin). For every live performance with every band, he always does an extended jam session on multiple songs (sometimes lasting close to 10 minutes, making you forget what song they're even playing until the end lol).. When he starts improvising, it becomes a bizarre, heavy, psychedelic, slightly-dark experience that is unlike any other musician I've heard. The way he's able to freely bend the notes and low overtones is totally unorthodox (since he says he taught himself to play by screwing around on the bass while watching cartoons as a teenager..which explains a lot lol).. The definition of what it is "To Defy the Laws of Tradition"..

He makes it look effortless. His hand motions, he seems to barely move. That is in part, for me, what makes Les so awesome. You know how in movies and TV shows they hire an actore who has NO idea hot to play? Then they hand them a bass an say "here, you play this in this scene" well, thats what les claypool lookes like when he plays, but yet the notes that come out are from an elite player. It's so fuckin odd lol just flick your pick hand up an down slowly, an barely move your fret hand. Yet he is hitting like 1000000000 notes a sec in some songs., It's crazy. His bass lines and melodies are very carefully constructed to not step over the top of each other.... same with Rush and The Police. I played bass and sang lead in a band and I had to be careful how we wrote the songs. I couldn’t sing just anything while I was playing... a good example of a simple bass line and melody that is practically impossible to sing and play at the same time is the classic “Brick House” by Commodores. Try it. It’s almost impossible without screwing up the bass part or the melody (it gets screwy right around the “she’s mighty mighty, just lettin it all hang out” part). A lot of syncopated bass lines with melodies that sit polyrhythmically over them are impossible to sing and play at the same time... unless you have a computer for a brain.

The best part about Primus is that no one can figure out what any of them are playing. Guitar, bass or drums. I can't play Primus on the bass, or the Guitar, but I love playing them on the drums. And it doesn't matter if I'm playing right. Because they play it different every fucking time.

He was BY FAR the best player and on that video outplayed Davie by a mile. So do you have anything to add or are you just a child throwing around insults?
