Almost. 1999, maybe number 1. Dirty mind made them pay attention. Quick story. I introduced the Controversy album to an 11 year old relative. I was 13 at the time. I told him this artist would be considered the greatest at one point in history. 40 years later, at a reunion ( I haven't seen him since we were that young), he remembered and pulled over to the side and thanked me for changing his life musically for introducing him to Prince. True story!

"Dirty Mind" is my extremely close second favourite to "Sign O' The Times".
@FoxyChariot
@FoxyChariot 6 жыл бұрын
Gary Cheshire I agree with this. It'd go 1. Sign O The Times (maybe not my favorite but it is his artistic peak. It is the best) 2. Dirty Mind (my favorite as far as cohesion) 3. 1999 (Very synthetic, alien, and funky. I can't articulate the brilliance of this record. The only thing that bring it down are some overlong songs in the second half that don't warrant their length. Why are DMSR and Automatic over 5 minutes? Lady Cab Driver is immaculate however) 4. Purple Rain (Classic record. Probably his stylistic second or third best but it's lower for me because it is slightly overplayed) 5. Controversy (Love the record. Sounds like a stopgap between Dirty Mind and 1999. Still has classic songs like the title track, Do Me Baby, Lets Work, and Jack U Off) 6. Prince (Probably the most underrated Prince record. He hasn't quite become the funk rock superstar he would become but that doesn't detract from mostly classic cuts on here. See: I Wanna Be Your Lover, Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?, Sexy Dancer, I Feel For You, Its Gonna Be Lonely) 7. Parade (A near classic. A very elegant and stylish record. Not much really stands out besides some essential cuts like Girls and Boys and New Position. It's so ethereal and airy. It also has Kiss on it) 8. For You (Very vanilla and clean compared to the life he would imbue his later material with. Still an interesting listen considering his age when he made it 9. Around The World In A Day (Never really understood this one. It still has Raspberry Beret and Pop Life on it.)

And that’s part of why everyone loved him. He was so confident in himself. He also never changed the integrity of himself or his music to please anyone. He was just himself, love him or hate him. His confidence is contagious! When you listen to Prince you just feel like you can chase your dreams! His confidence definitely shined through his music. His originality is what made him one of the best musicians! He had the music in his heart and wanted the world to hear what he felt in his heart. He never compromised himself to become a star. Not really. Prince pleased himself, but for many of his post WB Records/Jehovah Witness years, Prince, one, took advantage of his fans through the NPGMusicClub, etc. and two, wasn't very friendly or fan-centric. In fact, Prince sold his 2OTEN album to a publication, millions of copies, going around any fans or music buying public. Fans often forget that, and many other things he pulled from fans, including their own fan websites.

that is bold face lie cuz Prince gave us more than our money's worth through the NPGmusicclub especially the giving away the one night alone box set, xpectation album download, c-note album download, the contest song, the many song downloads in reflection room as well as the many song downloads in the jam of the week and exclusive seats and passes to after parties....

Radical Bryan I have most of his videos but not in this quality. I don't feel so bad considering I've been a lifelong paying consumer of his. Also that it is presented in a quality he would approve of which was one of his main concerns. Bittersweet :/.

One of my favorite videos of him. Love the naturalness of him here. Fresh, new, young, raw talent. Raw like before he blew up on MTV, which was also fantastic. His young energy, hot body, enthusiastic dancing, pulsing beat, so erotic. He was a gift to us. Inspiration to live and love and make love, and be ourselves. Legend.

Prince turned everything on its head (norms) & did things his way! He had important things figured out very early on in life. He knew exactly how to get attention. He had men, women, black, white, gays, etc making up his band(s). He was all-inclusive. He knew WAY BEFORE ALL OF US how important this was. He attracted everyone to him and as a result his sales went thru the roof....and his popularity too, of course. How is it that he was so far ahead of the rest of the planet? We all need to realize that we need to love one another; we are ALL bothers & sisters essentially, should accept it & get on with moving forward. He tried so hard to tell us. Hear the Prince message people!

There is highway named Prince Rodger Nelson, instead of being in the color green it is the color purple. There state honors 4/21, it is the highest tour attendance date for the museum. You feel Prince when you are there. Nothing but platinum records line the walls. The world knows Prince was here.

The raw unadulterated Prince. If you don't know about this song or the legendary album of the same name,you don't know Prince. I had the album and went to the epic tour that followed as well with what I still consider my favorite band of his,Andre Cymone and Dez Dickerson on bass and guitar. Dirty Mind is to me the album that made Prince to me and I rank it in his four best album's as follows. 1. Sign O the Times 2. Dirty Mind 3.1999 4.Controversy

@@YeekTV_Atlanta No. In fact, I bitched about having to pay the 5. A friend's mother worked for the city and had comp tickets. My other friend loved Prince and played 'Soft and Wet' constantly at the bar on campus. I liked the song, but he wasn't a big deal to me. He made me a believer afterwards! That show was great! He jumped on the piano - I mean on top! Teena Marie was a favorite of mine already and she knew she had to get down. No stub, just memories of that red scarf, high heeled boots, trench coat and briefs.

To me this was Prince. Now I say this due to every single band member that rocked with him during this time. All the other bands after these guys where great but there was something very special about this 6. Not sure who else feel this same way, However Prince thank you for the inspiration from your early recordings. You were and still is our "Ludwig Van Beethoven" and Elvis. Peace!
