I fucking love Dirty Mind, but also agree that the mid 80s with the revolution are his absolute pinnacle. Great discussion, I hope you'll have Ian on more often, since you guys have great chemistry, enjoyed this a lot!

Thanks, Stefan. You're a man of good taste, so no surprise you're also a Prince fan. Ian will definitely be back (we're planning to do that Under the Cherry Moon/Parade discussion in the future).

Absolutely outstanding video!! Prince is and was a supreme artist, and I honestly think it’s going to take about 150 years for people to really get their heads around what a genius he truly was. He kind of wrecks it for other people. He would be a genius if he were just a songwriter, or a singer, or a producer, or a performer, or a guitar player, or a piano player, or a drummer, or a bandleader, or a multi-instrumentalist session guy. But he was all of that in one, and so much more. I mean, arguably the greatest male pop vocalist that ever lived. As a songwriter, forget it…the only person to combine macro and micro to such virtuoso effect other than Bob Dylan. In terms of his prolificacy and depth of his work, all while being able to write top 10 hits and tour stadiums, he really does stand alone. Nobody, and I mean nobody bridged pop craft with maverick artistry muse chasing like Prince. Unbelievable. Two things, though I had already had Dirty Mind for several years, I remember flipping channels late at night in the mid 90’s, and there was a slow motion skiing scene in some movie that caught my attention, and what’s that? A cover of When You Were Mine? So yeah, that’s how I watched Hot Dog! Another thing, I bust out laughing when Ian talked about “Michael is an entertainer, Prince is an artist”, because that is nearly VERBATIM what I said in a pretty heated argument with a co-worker who once worked with Quincy Jones and was very partisan Michael. Prince’s peers really weren’t Michael and Madonna, if you look at the whole scope of his work they were Zappa, Miles, Duke Ellington, Hendrix, Dylan, The Beatles etc. Oh, and one more thing…this is his third album, and he had absolutely MASTERED album sequencing. The whole awesome opening volley of side one, then going into the more “normal” songs, as kind of an aural rope-a-dope, to then catch you totally off guard for the sustained, perfect side long funk suite of side two…totally incredible. One of the best album sides ever. Plus, that like The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, James Brown and very few others that he could make perfect statements as singles and then go and make such beautiful full length album statements. Anyway yeah, I loved this video, watched it twice, and yet another example of why this is my favorite channel on youtube!

As always thanks for watching and for your extremely insightful comment, my friend. I know when dealing with a genius like Prince we can write and talk endlessly about him and still only be scraping the surface...!!

Let’s party like it’s 1999. Not a real fan of Prince. Great musician he even did a Super Bowl halftime show. You probably didn’t know that

@@EdwinCannistraci very good. I didn’t think you watched any types of sports. But it was a memorable performance. The stage looked beautiful and it was played in a steady rainfall. Guess Prince wasn’t a diva 😁
