Madonna did a good job. They asked her to do it. If she would have said no then people would have been mad about that and said she was being disrespectful. It could have been longer and had more performers but that is the producers fault not Madonna. At least what they did was in good taste. In order to do a real tribute it would have to be a 2 hour concert with Sheila E., Chaka Kahn, Morris Day, NPG, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, etc. That didn't happen and it shouldn't be blamed on Madonna.

I thought that she chose two of the best songs for her ability and I thought she did OK I didn't love it but it wasn't terrible it was good for her. Came to see what all the chatter was about. When compared to other recent tributes (why is everyone dying wtf) I can see how this looks dull. Two super sad songs, intentionally minimal production, and depressing as shit video in the background... nobody is going to make this look good. Madonna and Stevie weren't totally wrong choices. Maybe if they would've kept it upbeat so it could be more like a party instead of a funeral, the public would've reacted better.

If it were an upbeat medley like Lady Gaga's David Bowie tribute, people would have been upset too. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I do get it, but I thought they did a touching tribute. Of course we know BET is going to take it to another level with the music he was MOST known for (aside from Purple Rain) and will inject artists he performed with. Considering the type of award show the Billboards is, I thought they choose well to have Madonna and Stevie Wonder. They positioned their selection based on cross-over iconic representation. Madonna is one of the only living greats left from that era and considering their past history, collaborations and relationship... it makes sense. Now that that's over... I really want to see BET jam. If I don't see Sheila E., Morris Day and the Time, Shena Eiston and Chaka Khan on that stage with some of Prince's former original band members...well. Something is wrong.They reflected the tone of his music and their presence will better resonate with his fan base. It would even be cool if the Bangles sang Manic Monday. And, if I'm correct, he even did a fairly recent collaboration with Angie Stone. I could see Apollonia saying a few words. I could also see them linking a brief tribute to Vanity. I have my expectations. LOL. My two cents. :-) I wouldn't be surprised if Beyonce, Usher, Miguel or Mariah Carey did a tribute. Make your own tribute if you have a different idea. He was a brilliant musician; there is certainly room for other interpretations.
