Radiohead fought to KEEP this on KZbin. It was their copyright and they wanted to enjoy it as well. Prince improvised a Masterpiece of their song , so powerful . In fact, this was almost the only live Prince-s performance on the net for years , till he died . MUsicians ENVY of a true genious , think is the worst SIN for a musician . When another musician own your song could be hard for EGO. THANK U Radiohead for BE real musicians , and keep this mastrpiece against Prince himself those years. Zero envy. Well done .

We were spoiled by Prince, we took his genius for granted because he made it all look so easy. Now that he's gone we realize just how truly gifted he was, simply because of the crater he left that may never be filled artistically. He's the only 'guitar god' ever that you forget even plays guitar sometimes. You could listen to an hour long collection of some of his biggest hits and not hear a single guitar solo, but then you see this or the George Harrison tribute and remember why musicians always mention him as one of the best. Dude was an animal on guitar but it wasn't important to him to showcase that at all, what was important was the vocals, the groove, the sexuality, and above all: the funk. Rest in peace Prince.

I'm a professional guitarist and teacher. I will brag and say I know guitar and soloing pretty damn well. I say this to give my 'street cred' for what I'm about to say. In bands I've been in, we never covered Prince songs. So I was not 'into' him. I just was a casual listener and I liked his records, but I was not a fan. After he died, a lot of his guitar work started surfacing on KZbin. So I listened. The more I listened, the more I thought, "WTF? Why haven't I heard him do this shit before? This dude's a monster!" So that's my tribute to his guitar chops. I finally see why big guitar names rank him up with the best. I just didn't know what heights this guy could go to when he was soloing. For me, it's not just the speed. Speed is shit without musicality. And that's what gets me about his soloing - the musicality. It's more than a succession of fast notes - a speed contest. It's how the notes form a kind of little song. They start out small and then build. They eventually reach a peak and the world opens up for the listener. This guy ain't just playing - he's SAYING something! I wish I knew earlier, but now i do. And that's ok.

But when I saw him do a guitar solo on TV one time I was flabbergasted - and got a whole new respect for his genius. I have the same vocal range as Prince and wish I still had my band so I could cover some of his songs - like 'Kiss'. I'm not a Radiohead fan BUT I also love the original Creep performed by Radiohead - especially the two guitar shredding parts. This song brings tears to my eyes! Peace, from LuLu Haynes in Chicago

Let's put this into perspective. Prince had the ability to shred the guitar like this the whole time and still chose to rein it in most of the time in singles, on albums. A true musician knows when less is more. As a result, so many people would downplay Prince's guitar skills. But man....its Slash and Hendrix mixed in there. He has the speed and technical skill in his solo but it also emotes so well. He could play rock and r&b and blues and pop. He could do it all. Prince was SOOOOO good.

One of the very few artist who could take someone else's classic and make it his own. I think his incredible showmanship tended to overshadow his guitar wizardry. I remember all those yearly polls Rolling Stone used to put out of the 10 best guitarists. The usual names would rightly be there: Clapton, Van Halen, Vai, Jeff Beck, Brian May, David Gilmour. I'd wonder why Prince's name wasn't included because he wouldn't take a backseat to any of them. I doubt the world will ever catch up to his music years from now even from decades past.

skitsy17 can I reply here? You really can't put KZbin recordings on repeat. What you can do is use Garage Band to record a digital music file while you've got this video playing. Save it as an MP4 (or 3, I'm not sure, it's been a long time). If you know any musicians who can clean up the sound noise, even better. Upload the file to them and then you'll have a unique tune for your digital music collection (iTunes or whatever you use). And just to show respect, I personally would make a donation to one of the many charitable causes that Prince cared so much about. Maybe find out what causes are important to Radiohead too. Then we're all playing nice : ) I understand the principle behind Prince removing his content from KZbin, but in the end, I think it might have backfired. Or it will in the future, when people who were babies or not yet born when he died won't have any live footage of him to show up randomly in their KZbin feeds. That's how I find AND BUY a lot of music. (I do not advocate stealing music--if you love it and it enhances your life, please support the artists.) That's how this video came to my attention--showing up in my KZbin feed. It was in the lineup--I wasn't listening to Prince. I was checking out the sound blunder during Radiohead's Coachella performance last night (major bummer). Then I found this. I love it. Even if Radiohead isn't keen on this song, I really love it--both versions, this one and Radiohead's. Guess I'll use Garage Band to create my own MP3 and put it on repeat too. And I'll make a donation since I cannot buy it. So glad Thom Yorke insisted on putting this video back up after Prince's people removed it claiming copyright violation. Beautiful, haunting song--intellectual property belonging to Radiohead. Glad he persisted : ) RIP Sweet Prince Thank you, Thom Yorke

The guitar solo is obviously overwhelming, but Prince also changes the lyrics in a manner that is simple yet transformative. It's fabulous how such a subtle revision can create something completely different, something that requires critical analysis independent of the original. He seems to have experience as author (and/or reader) shifting from first-person omniscient to FP limited or third-person, etc. He's obviously done some meaningful thinking and productive introspection. He said that if people wanted to know him they should listen to his songs. Indeed. Brilliant. Stunning. Bravo, Prince! The world misses you so much!

The reason there are so many recorded tracks in his vault is largely due to the lyrics not being what he wanted to say at the time of the recording or release of the album. Prince often pulled tracks out of the vault for future albums but the vast majority never again saw the light of day. Prince from the very beginning of his music career established the practice of recording songs as they came to him in his head and had a full time recording engineer and the necessary recording equipment at his home, at his band rehearsal space & while on tour to capture his flow of creativity.

This is not exactly true. The man was a product of a musical family, a public school system with supportive music teachers, and a community center bustling with musical mentors. Of course he was a genius, but he didn't arise out of a vacuum. Andre's mom was musical. He was mentored and included in the studio by Pepe Willie for Minneapolis Genius. I highly recommend the documentary "Mr. Nelson from the Northside" among others.

I was half way around the world. Just a Minnesota boy in Tokyo on solo travel. It was earth day, Over 100,000 people would celebrate in Tokyo together that day. In the subway to the celebration I see Prince on the TVs. A sense of pride came over me being a fellow Minnesotan. When I got off the train, I googled Prince to see if he was performing in Tokyo - Prince had passed away. I was distraught, I was lost, i had no one to lean on. He may have been Prince, but he was a king to us in Minnesota. I sang his songs in my head, they were so vivid I could hear them over the crowd - turns out my mind was not playing tricks on me. Purple Rain echoed from some speakers. I was pulled toward them, when I noticed hundreds of Japanese citizen swaying in a giant circle, singing. I joined along, find a bit of home halfway around the world

Doesn't matter if you live or hate the man or the song; undeniable this is one of the best covers in modern music, Prince brings his own personal interpretation and not just emulating the original. Even in this less than perfect recording , from over a decade ago, he still reaches out across time and space to move people. He defines Immortal.

yes. why are people saying he's "off" on the cover? Prince singing about feeling inadequate wouldn't work at all. introverted private life but his confidence defined his image and music. @@princelover1 He rehearsed PLENTY. Prince never did anything without pristine preparation. He just waited forever to respond to them that he would perform, but believe me, he was working on his act all the while. If you know anything about the man, he was obsessed with control and appearances. He never did anything (musically) spontaneously. Seriously, did you ever see Prince at a laid-back spontaneous jam session? Nope. And he was indeed showboating at the Harrison tribute. It was sickening. Dude, save the "falling off the stage into the arms of your waiting bodyguard" and "throwing the guitar into the air" shit for your own shows. This was a tribute to a dead colleague. By the way, those antics prove that that performance was well rehearsed with his own people. Problem was, that tribute was not supposed to be about HIM.

I know im a bit late to the party on this reply but .... Although there is no question Prince is a wonderfully talented guitarist, the quote about E.C saying "idk ask Prince" is not true. @LookingIntoTheAbyss - thanks so much for clearing up my misunderstanding of Snopes. My point was nothing more than there has been so many versions of what E.C has answered after being asked by god knows who "how it feels to be the greatest guitarist" his answer has always been Prince or Duane Allman, Stevie Ray, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Morello, Chuck Berry etc... depending on who is asking/answering the question of ol' Slowhand. I think it's more kind of an ego thing where his persona clashed with having a self-hating monologue and calling himself a creep. I like the song, but I think the song suffers for him to make it about someone who isn't good enough for him...the turnaround is very Prince-ish, but it kind of reminds me of Aretha Franklin saying "I'm Elenor Rigby" instead of just singing the song. He was the Motzart of the our era. Mastering multiple instruments ( could play 27 different instruments), writing his first song at 7 yrs. old, composing and writing hit songs for other professional musicians and entertainers. It is said that he only released 1/3 of all of the music and songs he had ever written and that he had stowed all of his unreleased music in a safe vault. From first sound wave to last, this clip documents the ascension to incontrovertible perfection (a state Prince reached with divine regularity). “Creep” at Coachella is arguably the most ragged, jagged, bruised-but-beautiful performance THE GOAT ever gave. This man was always 💯 with his vocals and you can’t even make out 33 1/3 of what he’s singing here. It’s a genius knowing - and Prince ALWAYS knew - that in this one astonishing instance, the less the listener understood the more they’d hear. It’s primal, and hair-raising. Then there’s the solos - and what can you even say? Prince channels the gotdamn cosmic in the last one. The vibration is so staggering, it’s literally breathtaking. Even experiencing this artistry through the limiting filter of time and technology, it still SEISMICALLY shifts the spaces we’re in RIGHT. FUCKING. NOW. There’s really no point arguing the point at this point: PRINCE IS WITHOUT PEER. THEN. NOW. 4EVER.

On The Other Michael Jackson's Musical Subject matter spanned all human and social concerns from Loss Love - Whos Loving You, She's Out of My Life to Drama - Smooth Criminal and Thriller To Social Concerns - Man in The Mirror, Earth Song etc.. Whereas Prince had fans Dancing Micheal had them dancing, shouting I love you, in tears and having to be carried out of the concert due to simply reaching such an emotional crescendo they passed out. Such a Prince move to turn around a truly painful song into a sensual spiritual pondering as if he talks to somebody he deeply understands. Such a supreme cover, rearranged musically and lyrically. He shifted the emphasis and still the essence of the song is completely there. He slowed it down, lets it linger and he never actually sings creep in the refrain, and he changed the You and I - you wish you were special, so do I, you are a ---- what are you doing here, you don´t belong here. You don´t care if it hurts, you just want to have control. You want a perfect body, you want a perfect soul. You want me to notice when you are not around. I wish you were special. Cause I think you are special. Maybe I am just a --- (then I don´t understand what he sings). What are we doing here. We don´t belong here. The guitar solo at the end is everything the lyrics try to say. I so wish I could have seen him live

🖤💜🖤I completely agree...except for the comment “ Being fu#king Prince “. Maybe when Prince was in his teens or twenty’s he would have sung the lyrics as is, but even then he would make you question the meaning of his songs. He did that even more as he grew older. I think by not saying the word ‘ Creep ‘ he’s leaving it up to the listener to decide whether the “ character “ is or isn’t one. But I have a friend who thinks it’s about confronting the devil. Prince was a very religious person, so I can understand my friend coming to that conclusion. I love the fact that he didn’t do the usual cover and decided to reimagined it. As a result he came up with something truly original and special.🖤💜🖤

I wouldn't say he was underrated at all. Plenty of other guitarists have acknowledged what an amazing guitarist he was. I think Clapton said he considered him far better than himself.

I think Prince really related to the lyrics of this song. He always felt like an outsider.

Such a duality about the man though, sometimes he was an absolute ass, with no one having a big enough axe to get to his heart.

Suzy Olive, Prince was known to have an incredibly large giving spirit and a kind heart, He was a huge philanthropist and gave millions to many great causes and didn't want recognition for it which shows a true giving spirit. We all as humans have flaws but who are you to judge by mere hearsay of someone whom you do not know personally? If you were constantly followed around by paparazzi and publicly scrutinized I'm sure a few people would have some unfavorable things to say about you.

Quentin Miller THANK YOU!!! I'm from Minneapolis and my fam knows his fam. He was laid back and easy going, sure fake people pissed him off but since he was one of a kind he could sense fake ass people so he kept to himself.

Squiddles Mc Diddles, I believe Prince wrote this song. He wrote many, many hits for other musical artists like Manic Monday, Nothing compares to U, etc.. The man was a helluva songwriter.

Prince was a creative genius. Vocally and musically. A beautiful man inside and out. Im sorry he suffered from terrible chronic pain, because i know what its like and how it robs you of everything, and how you have to fight off the depression. Fly high and rest in peace. Thanks for the music❤

I saw Prince 8 times in my life. I just happened to be at Coachella this day and had forgotten that he'd been added to the headliner spot. I was stage left a few rows back the entire show, and I swear it was the most moving Prince show I've ever witnessed, live or on video. He was so on point that night that it was otherworldly. He earned that money that night in a big way. Plus, I think he won over a hell of a lot of millennials who really had no concept of who he was aside from possibly Purple Rain and the Superbowl show.

I was there too, but I went specifically for Prince. My first time seeing P was in 80, Fire It Up Tour, and I've been hooked ever since. I've seen many a group and solo artist but never could anyone put on a show like P. He could slay you on so many levels. His vocals, his lyrics, melody, dancing, musicians, his guitar playing -- lead and acoustic, piano, synths, bass, and drums. I will always miss P. He wasn't finished. P was a lifer in the music biz. But I'm forever grateful for what he left us. 39 studio and that's not including unreleased music or the many boots that many have. I miss getting those little treats you would get as a NPGMC member. But I do wish his estate would dig deep into the vault and get off of the PR era. It's been milked enough but not by P, he wasn't one to stay in the past and milk his fans with past albums or greatest hits packages. He was about putting out new music, sometimes pulling shit out of the vault and finishing a track from yesteryear. Remaster Madhouse and put that out. He's got some great instrumentals. Package his shows and release.

bambi eyes wow! You might have hit the nail on the head -- hard to explain the overwhelming grief so many people felt for months (including myself) for someone we did not know personally -- Inexplicable...strong spirit indeed. A lot of emotions/pain/hurt in this song's rendition.

very painful song. He slowed it down to torture level and sang it with all the pain intrinsic in the words, changing the words somewhat...this is an ego ripping song...brave of him to sing it. He did a stupendous job.

Regarding slowing it down, technically he played it all twice as fast because the Radiohead version they stay double the length of bars on each chord. Lol. Still a great interpretation tho.
