Like so many other things, the Internet shone a light on that, pointing out that there are a TON of people doing "one man band" recordings. (Myself included.) The thing with Prince, however, is that there AREN'T a lot of people who are as talented & skilled as he is across so many instruments.

This is why I believe that he was the GOAT of pop musicians. He was such a naturally talented musician who was accomplishment on ANY instrument he touched. He could play drums better than most drummers, play bass better than most bassists, and play keyboards better than most keyboardists. As for guitar, well, a reporter once asked Eric Clapton, "How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world, "and Clapton replied, " I don't know ... ask Prince."

That is true, but Prince wrote some songs that weren't good at all. That's what I liked about Prince, he didn't always write masterpieces, and he didn't care. It was all about creating music.

His sound engineers talk about it. It was just him and an engineer in the studio on most tracks except for tracks for The Time. He had Morris on drums for a lot of those songs. Why would the engineers lie?
