Prince used the recording industry, they never used him. He insisted on producing his very first album-new artist, unproven, yet he would have walked if they’d not let him produce-and he never looked back. Prince was like France. People say, “Ooooh! The French are so snooty, stuck up, think they’re the best people on the planet!” Well, they have incredible food, artists, perfumers, architects, designers, so they kinda do have the right to some attitude. Prince played all the instruments, and played them at a level few achieve, he wrote lyrics and music, he sang every show, no tracks, no auto tune, no lip synching. My most favorite Prince video is of him at the RARHOF induction, and the stage is packed with stellar names. Prince comes out and blows them all completely back with his solo on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, then tosses his guitar over his dang head and walks off, as if to say, “There fellas. THAT’S how it’s DONE!” Genius true and through. He’s left a gap no one comes close to filling.

Saw Prince in concert 3 times, but the most memorable was as what would now be called a "pop-up". These were the days when top artists would just show up last minute and surprise the audience. This night there was a buzz that someone HUGE was going to show up and my then husband insisted that I go with him. 1987, small San Fernando Valley venue the size of a family restaurant. Standing room only. He comes out and we all go crazy. About 10 minutes in, he spots me leaning against the wall and because he could see that I was very pregnant (8 months) and barely holding myself up, invites me to come sit on the stage, which I did. I literally sat on the stage floor next to the speaker for the remainder of the set. One of the biggest thrills I've ever experienced. By the way...Sheila E was on drums.

Being a savage was considered an insult, despite how necessary it was for survival at times. Just like in the Japanese theater during WWII, while it was necessary for American troops to survive the brutal fighting, many of the survivors were sickened at the fact that they had to descend to that level of callous savagery to do so.

Prince was like a fine wine, allowed to mature and hone his art over many many years before going on the shelf. Many artist these days (not all) are like mass produced wine that have gone straight to the shelf for £$. I do miss the slower paced days when we had time to let things mature....music, movies, artists, athlete's. Now everything is "get there quick" on half the talent of those from our yesteryears.❤

@@ahhwe-any7434 so what if he was? It's his heart and mind that those songs came out of. Take whatever it is that you care about most in life and, rather than keeping it to yourself forever, you decide to share it with the world. They know it's yours, but they're not necessarily calling you to mind when they're using it. It's not a life-giving invention or a "useful tool," it's a work of art, a labor of love, an extension of yourself. When you share it, you share yourself.
