1999, Prince said “soon we will be sampling music that has already been sampled” and in 2020 this holds true.

@@bigolebot, I think what they meant to say was, "And to this day this holds true" or "And in 2020 this is still happening". I'm sure this person knows at least a few things about music, and I decided to ask because you sounded rude. 🙄

Prince was soo ahead of the time. He saw through the layers of what was going on and he knew..That's why he didn't want to be part of where society and the music were going to. Always unique, always loyal to his own principles and beliefs. You couldn't manipulate Prince, it was obvious. He had too strong personality to be manipulated by anything or anyone. That's why I respect (beside artistic side ofc) this man in a great deal.

@@bigolebot We were not sampling the samples then (at least not as we do today, minimally back then) , re-watch the video and re-read his comment. Whereas you were trying to teach him about music, I think you need to give yourself some lessons on humility, and kindness.

GREAT interview. First: He looks cool as #*%^#@ ;-) . Second: He admits feeling responsible as an artist for presumably putting out songs that trigger negative behaviors in certain listeners. That's some bold honesty. This is one of many reasons why I appreciated him as a person, not just an artist or 'rock star.' I loved him for exercising his conscience, and speaking out on matters of human suffering, racism, sexism, conflict and peace. That resonated with me early on when I started to really focus on him in the early 80s. Every interview with him, I always came away a little more enlightened. That was a deep brother and if you were paying attention when he spoke, you could always come away with something meaningful to ponder.

VH1 one of the main ones pumping out the BS now a days smdh. Man all of what rap is now a days is lying about everything and talk about killing somebody. few real artist left in that genre. Princes encourages me to live in the truth and take responsibility for the impact I have on others. Thank you💜

+Karen Keeling ~ as a Mom to 6 kids, his projection enhanced the look of the times, 80's...I thought he represented the "androgynous" look as I dressed, (much of my work revolved in male dominated environments-had to fit clothing style to sensible safety factors, but still look female); children's friends appreciated critic when they'd ape the then rock scene dressing & wondered why I was into Prince...I'd say his style is me...his perception is in his movement, in the lyrics...I compare him to none...love him!

Well....he practiced what he preached. He never referred to anyone in person or through his music as "ho's and niggas". Never talked or sang about guns. Prince's music will be played decades from now. But those who use the profanity, violence and misogyny in their "art" will fall to the trash heap of history.

Molly, you've just inspired me to listen to the Black album for the first time in quite a while. I've owned it (bootleg) for many years but played it very little, as I always felt that this was the beginning of Prince losing his inspiration. To my surprise, it sounded MUCH, much better than I remembered! In fact, I think I might have to revisit and reevaluate my opinion of this album. I know that it was pulled at the last minute (at Prince's behest?), if that's what you mean? I'd always thought that this was simply because it was sub standard. It appears I may well have been wrong about that
