Somebody please help me with the taffy thing... It's a good thing to be called taffy in the urban dictionary.But he said it rhymes with something that she is? He wasn't calling her daffy was he? He wouldn't do that so what is it?!? Help!

Hey hope I can help! Ok so back in the day, he changed his name to a symbol for about 6 years, and was known as "The Artist Formally Known as Prince" since his symbol name could not be pronounced. If you take the first letters from each word of "The Artist Formally Known as Prince", you get TAFKAP as an abbreviation. That's what Rosie was refferring too jokingly. She was trying to make a pet name out of it by taking the first part of TAFKAP (Taf) and making it sound "cute" by adding an "Eee" sound to the end of it, so "Taffy", like the candy because he's sugary sweet ;) kind of a double play on words. She was trying too hard to be funny and made him uncomfortable. I'm guessing he didnt like it because he hated not being taken seriously and everybody thought the symbol name thing was weird. A lot of talkshow people teased him about it, and he eventually just got sick of talking about it and having to explain himself instead of talking about what really mattered to him, which was his music. The darkskin vs. lightskin really if you was down with Prince you would know he changed his name due to a f'd up contract he signed. Basically Warner executives told Prince they owned him and his creative ideas before he presented them to the record company. He pushed for creative artist rights to go independent and to market themselves so they would not be enslaved to record companies paying back advancement monies and other debts that have alot of artist going broke if their record sales are not enough to pay back all the costs needed to be a entertainer. Only a small minded person would say nonsense about skin color.

I know I'm late to this comment, but he really only changed his name, like someone else said, because "Prince" was essentially owned by his record company, so he changed it to something new that he could rebrand for himself. But he also did it as a massive f u to his record label cuz the struggle they had to go through with that whole symbol thing was probably ridiculous (i mean they literally had to send out floppy discs to whoever wanted to write about him because they needed his own font that didnt exist on any computers in order to print the symbol) and at that point he definitely seemed on a mission just to piss his record company off in order to get out of his contract. So ur comment doesn't really make any sense, he had a reason for changing it and he achieved the partial component of his mission which was to piss people off.

Prince was freaking brilliant! The record company owned "Prince" and changing his name was a brilliant move!!! Not only was he off the charts "blessed with talent and looks," he was just as intelligent too! Total package!
