I think this G is easier to play initially, and easy here, but the other with fingers 2, 3, 4 makes for some much easier chord changes sometimes. For example, even though I'm a beginner, I don't have any trouble going from G to F because I decided to learn the other fingering for G. It wasn't easy at first, but it was worth it. G to C is much faster, too. And it's easy to play G7 as well. Just a suggestion. I love your videos. You are probably the clearest teacher for beginners on youtube.

Better to play it in the original key: Bbsus2, Gmin7, F major, EbaddF etc without a capo. Longer strings give more resonance and sustain. Chorus+reverb setting on amp gives more authenticity and feel.

@@danturner6887 For your information, he's not trolling. This is not correct at all. You must not be a very advanced guitarist. Prince or Wendy NEVER use a capo for one thing. This is simply this guy's interpretation. He needs a disclaimer. Be willing to learn sometimes instead of automatically saying someone's trolling. He's trying to inform you. The original is in the key of B flat.

.....Good lesson.....but when going from G to Em I like to take that opportunity to do the 2- finer Em so my bottom 2 fingers get a rest, then go to the D, but then to the C- ad9 which is much easier than a full- on C......just sayin'.....

There are no easy chords in 'Purple Rain'. It's not a song for beginners. Fretting the 3rd chord, Fadd9 and sliding it up to Eb add 9 takes yrs of practice. .... good luck.
