@JoseOrozcoGuitarАй бұрын
@@DrMatthewHudson Hey man sorry for the late response. Honestly, I didn't use a whole bunch of effects and I think I could have done better with the sound and the mix. I just used one of the virtual amp sims that come with the Logic Pro X recording software, adding some EQ and compression afterward. I know at some point Prince engages a wah pedal, but I didn't because I actually don't have one and doing it virtually wouldn't have sounded good. I'm looking to improve my tone and sound in future videos. Thanks for your question.

What amazes me most is that it looks like he's came up with such an iconic solo on the fly kind of. Do you think he worked it out beforehand or is it like he walks in to the stage, just plays it out of thin air and then throws the guitar off the stage and leaves the building like a perfect "hold my beer" guy. Oh sorry.. this should be a comment about you.. Yeah you nailed it man. The best in youtube so far.
@JoseOrozcoGuitar2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the awesome comment! It is truly incredible how this is a live performance and he played it flawlessly. I read somewhere once that he only rehearsed once with the band before the show and that he wasn't originally planning to do the solo at all! So it was kind of a last minute, spur of the moment thing I guess, but in the end it all played out nicely. Glad you liked the video man. I try my best

You play beautifully. The Prince's solo in this composition definitely consisted of two parts. Firstly, they agreed to play it with Tom, and secondly, Prince began to improvise. And thus, this improvisation became a diamond in the entire composition of the song. I am 60 years old, and I still admire the genius of the prince. I even thought that at my funeral I would like this composition to sound instead of sad silence.

Dude! Thank you so much for lesson. You sound great and cleared up a few confusions I’ve had. I’ve been playing guitar for 20 plus years, was kind of “meh” on prince. I knew he was under appreciated as a guitarist, but I was not a huge fan. I watched this HOF as it aired…and was absolutely dumb-struck, slack-jawed by this performance. Not that he needed it, but I think this single performance has become the thing of legend and will forever stand as proof the prince never even flirted with the idea of being a mere mortal… particularly with those of us who know the slightest bit about Guitar. This performance also serves as proof that in terms of entertaining your audience, it has every bit as much to do with attitude as it has to do with technical ability. Even if I am able to play this solo flawlessly, obviously, there will always be something huge missing. His unfortunate death has made all of this more important somehow… And every couple of months I go back and watch his performance and I’ll be damned if I don’t still cry every time. Again, thank you very much for taking the time Patrick.
@JoseOrozcoGuitar Жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick and thank you for your insightful comment. I was only 6 years old when this aired, but I can imagine how it must have felt watching it happen in real time. I also think this performance changed how a lot of people viewed Prince as guitarist. His musical talent, both technical and creative, speaks to many people and I think his ability to compose in a wide variety of styles (including writing songs for other artists) in addition to being a multi-instrumentalist has helped attract a global audience. I think in many ways he encapsulated the 80s better than even some mega star contemporaries of the same time, including Michael Jackson and Madonna. Such a shame that we lost him so young, but at least we have plenty of his work to enjoy for many, many years to come.
