Ended up going the Avion Route because there’s no blackout dates, more flexible rewards, and a lot easier to book for families compared to Aeroplan. Amex Cobalt (Main Card) RBC Avion Infinite Visa (Travel) RBC ION+ Visa (When Amex isn’t accepted)

Incredibly frustrating to hold a CIBC Aeroplan Infinite Privilege card, paying a high annual fee, and not have the opportunity to level up status. Air Canada and Aeroplan should be ashamed to be treating Canadians this way.

For now, AMEX cobalt still earns 2 MR pts per dollar that can xfer 1:1 to AP, why would you use TD Aeroplan to book even on air canada and only earn 1.5 AP per dollar?

With Air Canada - yes. You have to link your aeroplan number to your flight to get the benefit

⁠@@harrypotter2006this is incorrect. You do NOT need to pay with an Aeroplan card to get the free checked bag. The linkage between Aeroplan and your credit card benefits (ex. Preferred redemption award rates) is known in advance by virtue of having the card linked to your AP member number. It’s not conditional on using the card to pay.

@@harrypotter2006 you can link your aeroplan account with the visa infinite but I heard that you don’t necessarily have to buy the airplane ticket with it to get the free check bag benefit. You just need to show the card when checking your bag to get the fee waved.
