People in this day and age (2018) don't realize how groundbreaking this was. At the time, people with AIDS were considered outcasts. For the Princess to humanize them was a huge thing

The fear and cruelty against the sufferers of this disease is a great shame. In fighting against it with great courage, using her platform, Diana was a saint.

As someone who lost a very dear family member to AIDS, people forget how huge this was. We know in 2021 that AIDS cannot be passed to others unless through sexual contact or specific body fluids (for example, blood and feces). But in the 1980's, AIDS was a medical death sentence and kept people terrified from even touching an AIDS patient. People were left to die alone in hospitals as their families turned their backs on them and even nurses feared their touch. The fact that she would hug and sit close to them still touches me.

Not so much. Elizabeth Glaser had a conversation with Barbara Bush about HIV/AIDS and then the administration still didn't commit to doing more to help those with HIV/AIDS.

Addis Ababa Well this was at the height of the AIDS crisis when people who had HIV were seen as lesser people, but in the 2000s it had became less of a taboo subject so people didn’t worry about it, so the Clintons and Obama’s don’t need to do stuff like this

I think as history as uncovered that fact that Princess Diana was not (shockingly!) perfect, and that she, like all human beings, had her flaws and foibles, that we sometimes forget what an extraordinary woman she was, to use her platform in such impactful ways, and how she did it with such warmth and a natural care for human beings. She set such a brilliant example for her sons and the women they have chosen to marry.

This was very, very important. She shook hands with aids patients without gloves (.......). She made a statement here. You can touch Aids patients are not people you should be scared about. She treated them lovingly. And she said to this guy: apparently the party up there is even better then the one down here. Bless her.

I find it hard to believe that this was anything other than a phote opp for Barbara Bush. We all know how much Princess Diana advocated for those suffering with HIV/AIDS (at the time of this footage, if you were diagnosed with AIDS, on average you were given about 2 years left to live. 3 if you were lucky). She showed compassion and sympathy for both children and adults with AIDS and by adults I mean gay men. AIDS took an entire generation of gay men away from us before they were even able to reach 35 years old. And it went largely ignored by both the Reagan and Bush administration.

They do the same with Harry now too spends 8 years in the military they call him a woke brat.
