I once read an article about Princess Margaret and how some friend of hers, an author I forget the name of, had once considered her as being too intelligent for her station in life. I think that might have been another factor, aside from the ill-fated romance with Peter Townshend, that led to her being so unhappy. Then her marriage to Antony-Armstrong Jones, by then Earl of Snowdon eventually failed. I believe through all the time that passed, until her last breaths, Townshend was the only man who could have ever truly been it for Princess M. It's kind of sad that due to the protocol of that time period that it could never be.

In season 1 and 2 Philip is quite kind and compassionate towards Margaret, but then in season 3, like you said, it is quite the opposite! Princess Margo was honestly one of my favorite characters in the show just bc of how well she was portrayed. Vanessa was the cake, Helena was the cherry lol, for lack of better analogies lol. Vanessa portrayed Margaret to be the restless fighter. Helena portrayed her to be the “princess who’d given up.” Same with Olivia Colman. Olivia & Claire acted with the same brilliance. Ugh just love the Crown.

But ,when the Queen decided to send Peter off we all know Peter wasn't coming back to be with Margaret without a fight . It's sad Peter found someone else but I truly believe he wasn't happy either .
