Great tips on overseeding there George. Some sources over here in the UK say to mow to 3/4 inch or slightly less prior to overseeding. As you say its like a natural growth regulator. Totally agree with the rolling step. It ensures better seed soil contact 👍

For me, last fall, the mistakes I made were underestimating how much grass seed the birds in my area could gobble up, and trying to throw more seed down in my remaining bare spots when the soil temps were already dropping too low, so I wasted some seed. Spring overseed helped, but I gotta deal with some poa annua now. I'm in the overseed or use prodiamine conundrum lol. I'm relatively happy with the thickness so I'm gonna try the pre-emergent.

Hey there George, Monica from Michigan. I'm new to diy lawn care this is my first fall I detached and sacrificed as well as overseeded covered some with peatmoss but I think sparrows got to some, but coming up with my new seedlings are weed seedlings of crab and spurge, do I wait for next spring to kill weeds. I have put down Scott's kentucky blue grass, perennial rye and then Scott's start lawn fertilizer.
@PrincessCutLawnCare
@PrincessCutLawnCare 3 жыл бұрын
Hi monika! Don’t worry about the weeds for now. Just focus on the new baby grass. The crabgrass will be dead any day now since it’s cooling off. If you see any of the leafy weeds flowing seed heads then try to pick them by hand. Appreciate you sharing your project!

I fertilize regularly & in the later fall i cut grass short, dethatch it then seed in 1st week of Nov. When snow comes its weight pushes dormant seed to contact level...Then in spring it melts providing water to begin germination, once the ground is no longer soft i fertilize it with Scotts Max green.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare I don't have the exact name on me, it's from United Seed, I can look later when I'm back home. But, the varieties is also in the tall fescue from Seedsuperstore SS1000, the same one's. I talked to a guy from Itep, he said they got a very good rating. They are less expensive than Seedsuperstore, even after you add in shipping.
@Johnny53kgb-nsa
@Johnny53kgb-nsa 3 жыл бұрын
@@PrincessCutLawnCare At Seedsuperstore their SS1000 includes four varieties, including avenger 2, and 4'th millennium, which both sell separate at United Seed's. At Seedsuperstore 25 lbs of SS1000 is $ 116.99, at United Seed's either of the tall fescue varieties listed above cost 10 lbs $35, and 25 lbs $81.25. ( now that does not include shipping). Seedsuperstore shady tall fescue blend is SS1002, it includes a few varieties, including Titanium 2 LS and Valkyrie LS. Seedsuperstore price is 25 lbs for $116.99, at United Seed's each are 10 lbs $35, and 25 lbs $81.25. ( not including shipping). So, I need some of the sunny variety, and the shady variety. So, I'm going to order so much of each of the four different varieties. I've used Seedsuperstore seed before, it is good quality seed. But, if I can get the exact same seed for less cost, I'm going to try United Seed's. I've never purchased from them before. Thanks, John G.

Hi George, Always enjoy your videos, thanks for making me smarter! I also follow many of your peers you listed at the end, that was a classy move! My plan is to dethatch, aerate, then drop the Scott’s weed n feed. I have a decent amount of crabgrass, clover and nutsedge, but my lawn is significantly better than this time last year when I applied Tenacity thanks to you. @@PrincessCutLawnCare Yeah for sure. I think it all depends on how you treat it. Make it dark green or low or whatever you want to do to it.

I’m tossing the seed on bare spots and letting the snow cover it. I stick holes in it with a ski pole and dump a bit in and let it grow while it snow!

Found your channel accidently but loved it and binging on it. I bought a new home 4 months back and the backyard and front lawn were just mulched, no weed fabric under it. Now its full of overgrown weeds. I will cut and then put round up to clear up the weeds. Since I have mulch, if I want to throw in weed and seed from scotts, should I remove the mulch?
@PrincessCutLawnCare
@PrincessCutLawnCare 3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! Congrats on the new home 🎉 I’m order to stop the weeds in the mulch beds you will have to apply a preemmergent which will prevent them from growing. A popular one is called preen, you can get it at Walmart. Apply it every spring and fall and it will take care of most of the weeds. For the few that still come just spot spray them with round up and you be all good

Also I noticed you said weed and seed, were you thinking about replacing the mulch with grass seed?
@pretty95138
@pretty95138 3 жыл бұрын
@@PrincessCutLawnCare yea was thinking to remove the mulch and add grass seeds instead, but use a preemergent before that. And at some places like garden beds, remove the mulch and add a weed fabric and reapply mulch. Is fabric needed if I use preemergent in garden beds? I used roundup weed kill today and nothing has happened so far? Is round up also preemergent? Thanks a lot for replying.

How is rain bad for when you put your seeds down? I used Scott's weed, feed, and prevent a few weeks ago. Then raked the dead weeds and soil. Put seeds down. Then lawn soil on top and watered. All done by hand. This was yesterday. Have 3 days of rain. This is my First grass related video I watched so any help would be greatly appreciated. Wish I would have seen this yesterday. It's my mother's lawn

No problem boss good question. Light misting rain is great for the seed, the problem is when there are heavy down pours, it will wash all your seed to the low areas of your lawn and you will have bare spots
