Listening to this in November 2024… My dad and uncle introduced me to this song through the Concert for Bangladesh videos. Seeing Clapton, Harrison, Starr, and more collaborate on a track is something that is so foreign in today’s music scene. I think some people are into Beatle backlash.. you hear people slag Ringo and it’s like, okay so this person is probably one of those drummers who plays inappropriately complex fills every 4 bars. 😂 give me a good George solo any time, beautiful subtle & melodic, and often has a kind of “sonic” edge like Hendrix. Like he really cared about his tone. His chimey Vox tones in the early days, and his later brilliant slide work inspired by the pitch inflections found in Indian music. I’d put Prince and Elliot Easton from The Cars in that category too. Just always tasteful, melodic, and simply sound amazing.
