I do remember when sketchbooks were for practicing and it was normal to not have people go through them! I like having things contained in a book. So I now have several little sketchbooks , 4x4 that I designate to different things. Outdoors, flowers, portraits, and regular paper sketches that also include notes and ideas. Thank you for promoting other people's work! I found you through Emma and have subscribed.

Yes, I am somewhat like your beginning in my feelings about sketchbooks. It just seems so permanent and I am still in fairly early learning. I’m thinking about cutting the papers out and making them into a ring bound journal. The paper is good cotton. Perhaps, since I have two, I will do that with one and think more about what you said before I decide to do that with the other one. I always learn from you and your dialogue! I feel so fortunate that when I checked to see which pencils I had, I did have some Inktense pencils as well as some regular watercolor pencils, because right now would not be a good time for me to purchase new supplies. When I first started I was more able and bought supplies that I didn’t even use… now I reap the rewards of that, yay! I’m wondering about the difference between regular watercolor pencils and the inktense pencils. I hope that sometime you will talk about that. In trying to help a friend decide if she wanted to learn to paint, I advised her to buy a small set of good gouache paints and told her that if she decided against it then I would buy them from her. She decided against it so I now also have some gouache paints! Yay! I can learn with you! I’m also glad that you are making time for fun for yourself!! So important!💕

I love your painting! It also gives me ideas for how to use my Inktense pencils 😊 I like messing around in sketchbooks. It feels less stressful than “just playing” on my expensive paper.

I agree that sketchbooks are intimidating and that 100% cotton paper is essential. If I make a mistake, I allow myself to just rip out the page. Your painting is gorgeous!

Thank you kelli! U r right about just ripping off that page. I actually cover it up with acrylic and give myself an excuse to play with that! 😆 😂 it's my perfectionist coping mechanism

I love working in sketchbooks. I was nervous at first, too. I have some for the sketching random stuff. I have some watercolor sketchbooks with the cold press watercolor pages and to be honest, I’m starting one sketchbook that’s actually themed for just birds only because I wanna work on sketching and painting them.💕👍

I did large paintings before but now I am starting sketch books mostly because I no longer have room for the large supplies I am 83

I have to agree that sketchbooks are easier to have around and very handy. I do find I miss the feeling of stretching and moving with bigger paper and Brushes sometimes which I crave every now and then 😀

That is stunning!!!! I love this way of painting and you do it so well! I have 3 paintings in my sketchbook so far...it does help to think of it as not being so precious or as working on finished piece to frame or gift but rather a place to play! You "play" soooo well! Love your color choices!

Thank you! I been enjoying this "style" too. The impressionist book really brought these out! I get what u mean, I don't usually paint with backgrounds nor with mix media but seeing this as a playground really changes the vibe and it also makes it something I look forward to exploring and experimenting. Your painting turned out gorgeous. I love the colors and what you started with as your background wash that you laid out first. You forgot to link the sketchbook artist you mentioned.
