This week we're exploring gouache a little deeper! Join me while I create three small paintings in my sketchbook as I try to finally understand this tricky medium! 👀✨ Let me know what you think and what you'd like to see next! I hope you have a wonderful day/ night whenever you're watching this! :) - Emily ♡

As far as I can see your gouache videos including acrylic gouache are your most popular videos. I hope you will keep on elaborating training videos on gouache and as an educated artist you have all the skills.

As a general rule in gouache the lights dry darker and the darks dry lighter. I really liked all 3 paintings.

I liked the portrait the best. Amazing! Can see the oil painter in you as you paint. I could see how you were becoming more comfortable with the gouache with each painting. Good job! Also interesting to me that you didn't blend any of the colors-as you add new gouache blend it purposely with the paint already on the page-but it didn't look like you picked up much and blended unintentionally much either. I have some experience with gouache-it can be frustrating-but I like the creaminess of the paints, the watercolor qualities and being able to lift is necessary- and paint over!(As I'm reading other comments-I think you used watercolor gouache, right? Not acrylic? I've no experience with the acrylic gouache.)

I am a watercolor painter. I have not yet tried gouache. Since it is a water-based medium I would like to try using both. Because you can see the brushstrokes gouache seems more like oil paint. I need to experiment. Thank you for sharing your experiments with using gouache.😊

Thank you for watching! 💛 Watercolor and gouache make a lovely combo! When I use gouache I am often reminded of oils. Enjoy your painting adventures! 😊

I am only now starting to understand that I don’t have to paint EXACTLY what I am seeing and that I can put my own artistic interpretation on my art - I love your loose style and am going to start experimenting with acryl gouache paints - you are an inspiration- thank you for your videos

Thank you so much Emily! I started taking art lessons at about 67 years! I have tried various media, but have the most trouble with watercolours. If you could have a video on mixing colours, dry vs wet, etc, I would really love a lesson. Skippy

Thank you so much Skippy! It's never too late to learn and start creating art! I am by no means an expert at watercolour, it is such a challenging medium, but I can certainly make a video on everything I know.about working in watercolour. Added to my list of videos I'd like to make soon! Thanks again for the suggestion! ❤️

nice job! I loved watching you work. I have been using my gouache with way too much water, so I loved watching you start out loose and continue with more opacity. thanks!

Really enjoyed your video. I've worked in gouache for a couple years and have dabbled in oils. When I first started with gouache, I found it extremely frustrating and gave up on it for about a year. I just couldn't paint my lights opaque enough over the darks. But then, I figured out I was using the wrong type of white (zinc white). Once I started using titanium white I was able to get the opaqueness I desired. Curious if you have found gouache to translate into your oil paintings?
@emhuesart
@emhuesart 2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! That's a great point about different whites, I recently ran out of my titanium and started using my zinc instead. I find zinc is great for mixes, but as you said, not so great for being opaque enough to cover up the darks. For me, oil painting feels like using a different part of my brain entirely! In oils I'm always watching that not all my edges are blended, I like to have some some sharper edges to keep things interesting. With gouache, it's almost the opposite! I have to really concentrate on having some parts that are blended rather than everything being blocky placements of colour. I hope that explanation makes some sense! :)

this is a very underrated video! I’ve recently gotten myself a set of jelly gouache paints and I totally understand the struggle of trying to get to grips with this medium so found myself nodding along with plenty of points you learned along the process. So informative and helpful to just see someone else go through the same thing and huge inspiration to just keep practising :) thank you for this vid!

Hi there! 😊 The other artist mentioned is Pixelbchan on Instagram! His course is available on gumroad. I also recommend looking into Tommy Kim, Lena Rivo, and Angela Sung if you're interested in gouache. They're all incredible!

When I started painting with gouache I primarily used watercolors and that took a lot longer to dry. I like gouache because the drying time is a lot faster than watercolors. I also struggle with letting my layers dry first lol. Best of luck and fun with your gouache journey! 🌟

Niiice ! i was wondering where you were going on the still life at first but it came out really nice. The other 2 are even better in my opinion but i like all three. One thing you said is "...don't be in a hurry with gouache, let it dry before applying the next level...." it like revealed my own problem i am having. So thanks for that. I will be more patient.

Why do all the Genz/millennial KZbinrs always do this breathy asmr voice. We know that’s not your real talking voice. It’s very annoying to listen to. The older artists on yt who just talk normal are much easier to listen to. I’ll stick to them.
