I got a 36-set of these pencils for Christmas, and they're amazing! Much easier to control than normal watercolor paints (But I still love those, too), and the colors are some of the most vibrant I've seen, especially the blues! I've been very happy with them so far. :)

Very nice video. I actually learned a few things here! I just got my first set of 12 watercolor pencils an I had no idea that they were so versatile. I didn't know you could wet the brush and pull color off the pencil tip for when you are on the go, that is neat! Thank you so much, your video really helped me a lot.

@Nijichan3 Yes - the watercolor are available in 36 colors. You can buy them in sets or individually. The regular Prismacolor pencils come in many more colors.

I have Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer and Albrecht Dürer Magnus, Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelles, Derwent watercolor, Derwent Inktense (not really watercolor but throwing them in here anyway), and Prismacolors. While I absolutely adore the Museum Aquarelle, I still think that as far as value for money and overall flexibility, the Prismacolor watercolor pencils can't be beat. I started using them many years ago when I was looking for a less cumbersome way to travel, and now I'm in love with watercolor pencils as a medium.

@LoricaLady It is fine to leave your pencils out in the open, this will not affect their texture or working properties.
@Blick_Art13 жыл бұрын
@LoricaLady The colorless marker does not have its own web page, but when you type in Prismacolor Colorless marker, the first result is Prismacolor Premier Double-Ended Marker. Click on that - the page includes the colorless marker within the list of individual colored markers. I hope this helps. If you have difficulty or have questions about the product, please call or email our Product Information experts at 1-800-933-2546 or info @ dickblick . com.

@TziporaRaphaella12 жыл бұрын
@JBustamanteART I have both the Prismacolors and Derwent watercolor pencils and I prefer the Prismacolor. However, Derwent makes regular watercolor pencils and Inktense and if you want really bright colors that look almost like ink, Inktense is your best bet. Otherwise I tend to find the pigment is brighter and nicer in the Prisamcolor versus regular Derwent watercolor pencils. Worth a try, I'd say if you like watercolor pencils. The Prismacolors look much nicer too, I think.

what kind of paper should i use for water colors ?? and about that travelling book .. which paper was that ??
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын
Black jaguar4 Good quality watercolor paper will give you the best results. Because not as much water is usually used, 90 lb paper would be sufficient, but heavier weight paper can be used. The surface texture (Cold, Hot, or Rough Press) is up to personal preference. The traveling book, shown in the video, is the Moleskine Watercolor Notebook (@products/moleskine-watercolor-notebooks/) but there are many other sketchbooks with watercolor or mixed media paper that would also work well.

And I have to say I'd think for the artist who doesn't/can't travel with much bring a few strategic colours and the blending marker is probably a better idea, unless you are thinking of using them in a hotel or something as opposed to in the park or on the train. I like going to independent cafes and parks to colour or write poetry sometimes. With a convenient carry case and/or knapsack, I might expand my repetoire to watercolour pencils as I imagine the chemical smell would be minimal....
@Blick_Art12 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no way to measure how long your colorless marker might last as it is dependant on too many factors. Keep the cap on the marker when you aren't using it and be sure that it snaps on completely - this will help your marker last as long as possible. As for paper with your pencils, there is no "right" paper to use - these pencils will work on pretty much any paper. Different papers will give you different effects, so try them on a variety of surfaces.

What do you think about watercolor brush pens?
@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+Finch Gould The watercolor brush pens are an excellent option for plein air painting or when you don’t have access to a water supply. That being said, it is easy to accidently release too much water and flood your drawing. It really comes down to what you feel most comfortable using. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

How similar are these to normal prismacolor pencils when you are just using them with no water?
@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+Skitty Skittles They are very similar, but some people feel they are slightly harder than the Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. They are not as hard as the Verithin Pencils though. The Watercolor Pencils though are still close enough to the same consistency that they work well with the non-watercolor pencils. Are these things all lightfast? Or just some? I hate when only SOME of them are lightfast. Or not at all. I think when you spend the extra money for an "artist" set of anything it should be something that will stand the test of time.
@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+Tommy Ohlrich Many of the colors are lightfast, but unfortunately, not all are as good as others. Please contact us directly for a listing of the lightfastness ratings. Unfortunately, this is common because by nature some pigments are more lightfast than others. You can help with the longevity of your drawings by either framing them under UV resistant glass or by applying a fixative/varnish with UV inhibitors, such as Krylon Gallery Series UV Archival Varnish (www.dickblick.com/products/krylon-gallery-series-uv-archival-varnish/). If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
