A very good blending technique is to get a waterless paint brush fill it with odorless thinner I like Grumbacher...it's amazing how well you can blend your colors....a little practice first til you get the feel of it and yes wipe the tip when your finished but if you forget and don't because the thinner is in the barrel (you draw it up into the brush) just wipe the brush back and forth on a piece of paper and it will clean....you can't ruin it as far as I can telll

paulstifl3r The 24 piece set is not going to be enough colors or the correct colors for a realistic portrait. Depending on the skin color of your subject, you will need at the very least the 36 count set, if not several additional open stock colors. You might wish to purchase Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step by Ann Kullberg (available on our website at dickblick.com) first so that you know what colors you will need. A colorless blender is also helpful for blending your colors, no matter what you are drawing. Thanks!

@donniedarko88888 Almost every paper will work with colored pencils so it really depends on what result you are looking for. Drawing or sketch papers work great because they have just enough texture to hold onto the pigment.

@Blick_Art14 жыл бұрын
@WhiteFruits Each blender works well but for different techniques, so it depends on the result you are looking for and how you work. The pencil blender is great for subtle changes, small areas and using a burnishing technique (a final layer with a firm application which flattens out the surface of the paper and leaves a smooth, almost shiny surface). The blender marker acts as a solvent and blends the colored pencil by liquifying it on the paper. It works well for larger areas.

The Prismacolor blenders may work with other brands, though the results may vary.

@animefreak7918 Thanks! We are glad you found the information useful! I don't recall the precise papers we used in the video as there might be a few different types. @AnnihilatingAngel You can also try using a paper without "tooth," (the texture), such as plast bristol, which is a very smooth slick paper surface often favored by artists using pen and ink. On the other hand, the tooth helps pick up the pencil, so you may not find plate bristol satisfactory, for reasons of adhesion. But, it's worth trying...each artist has his or her own preferred tools and techniques.

Practice! Practice practice practice! It drives me nuts when people say things like this. Don't put yourself down, no one is born good at art. You have to try and work hard! It's not fair to you when you think things like this, and it's not fair to all the artists who work so hard to have their ability written off as talent. Art is WORK. It's /fun/ work, but it's still work.

@AnnihilatingAngel I think it all just boils down to the coloring technique, try to do your coloring as tight as possible. I usually color in a circular motion, while at the same time making those circular strokes as tight and minuscule as possible. That really works for me.....

@animefreak7918 You can certainly draw on printer paper but keep in mind it is very thin and smooth so it will not give you the "hills and valleys" the artist talks about and shows in the video. It will also be more delicate and crinkle more easily than heavier sketch or drawing art papers you'd find in a pad.

For the colourless blender marker, what if you used a slightly darker colour like black? is it still possible to remove it completely without staining the whole marker tip?
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын
Louise Chib Hi there! It may be tougher to fully remove a dark color, like black. You should be able to lighten it enough that another color with mask it or that it won’t be as noticeable. As for the colorless blender, you should be able to rub out the color so that it goes back to only putting down clear blending solution, but the tip itself may permanently stain. I will be very grateful for your reply! Ania
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын
Rafał Gołkiewicz You can use the colorless blender markers on other types and brands of colored pencil too. The Prismacolor Premier are a softer, larger core compared to the Verithin, which are slimmer and harder, but both art artists’ grade pencils. The Scholar are Prismacolor’s student grade, so you’ll find them to not be as pigment-rich as the artists’ grade pencils.If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542.

Interesting. In my endless quest to get 100% coverage of the white specks of paper with colored pencil, I've tried: 1. the colorless blender pencil (no good); 2. burnishing with the white pencil (a little better); 3. laying down a base layer of white pencil, then also burnishing with it (a little better still); 4. blending with mineral spirits & tortilions (about as good as no.3) - but NONE of these have produced the TOTAL coverage I want. Will the colorless marker finally do it?
