Tony, I should be telling you about the stories at Freo Prison involving ACDC's Bon Scott being an inmate and the legendary Brendan James Abbott escaping during the fire, dressed as a prison guard, then having the audacity, whilst on the run, to come back to Freo Prison and sign the visitors log as; Name: B. Abbott Address: Nowhere you'd find. Comments: Nice to come back and not have to escape again. When WA Police discovered the entry the next day, the Commissioner and the Police Minister were absolutely livid.

I live near Fremantle & went to the night time tour of the Fremantle Prison a few months ago. What a good atmosphere that was.

This prison was running till 1991 without any sewerage or power so to speak. Basically people had to do their business in a bucket and their was no heating or air conditioning of any sort. I worked with a guy that was there in the late 80's till it closed. 40 degree days are not uncommon in Perth so you might get an idea of what the prisoners had to deal with. Hence why it closed. The heat mixed with the smell was the most horrible thing he'd ever experienced. Sorry i didnt ask him what he was in for but he was a respectful albeit odd person. No need to ask. He did his time hard!

I know of a lot of coppers that had a begrudging admiration for Abbott because a lot of them saw him as ahead of his time, like a surveillance unit on steroids and someone with the precision of an SAS scalpel.

I arrived here in 1854 ! If you don't believe me go to the Freo Museum and look at those plaques of early arrival's of the area....my name and it is the exact same spelling and ot is on there and claim's that l arrived in 1854 !

You've not been to the prison unless you went to the hanging room, or the tunnels. Disappointed Tony as a Freo local
