I've worked in restaurants off and on since the mid-1980s and usually worked nights. I've never seen a health inspector come in after 5pm, ever. I've lived in three different states and many different cities. While they can show up at any time, they don't. There's no health inspector going to McD/Denny's/IHOP/etc at 2am while on the clock.

@@andreasiven21 that is true, and those things have their own issues, but you should be making a profit as a scientist or a healthcare provider that incentivizes growth. I dont think companies, counties and judges should be incentivized to lock people up. Keeping people from any sort of freedom, their families and just any normal kind of life so that they can get cheap labor. That seems alot like slavery to me. Some people definitely deserve to be locked up, but I don't think people should be making money off the backs of those people. That is going to lead to more people incarcerated, and for longer periods of time for minor offenses, which in turn makes more hardened criminals. The term "correctional facility" is BS, if anything they are places to improve your criminal skill, not correct anything. Which in turn brings them back to make even more money. Terrible system.

I completely understand why you'd be frustrated and you're allowed to be, Larry. The way most of the systems in this country (education, government, prison and court, etc) work frustrates me on the daily. "Don't talk about other countries until you fix your own." That really hits home, nobody wants to talk about all of the shit that the government gets away with on the daily. All of these old people in charge who don't really know what they're doing (or even talking about at this point) are destroying this country.
@richardanderson4916
@richardanderson4916 2 жыл бұрын
People in general don't get it. It is so easy to get convicted of something, whether innocent or not, once the system gets their meathooks into you. People have no idea what it's like to be accused of something you didn't do. It's all guilty until proven innocent. None of the prosecutors give one damn if you are innocent. They just want as many convictions as they can get to move their careers forward. No matter how many lives they destroy. There are plenty of innocent people in prison.

My husband was a CO at big prison in Washington State. His brain resembles that of a veteran with PTSD. He'd have nightmares at night of things unrepeatable what I heard and he told me and really put things in perspective. He wanted no more part of it any longer. Especially the stockmarket on private prisons like you say. Even foreign companies like Nintendo and Toyota have had used prison labor. Its disgusting.
@FilthTribeFTP
@FilthTribeFTP 2 жыл бұрын
That's the problem. It's the same with police departments... All the good ones never last long. So it just leaves the worst of the worst behind to create nightmares for people. In police depts, the good ones get run out because they didn't follow the thin blue line and are shunned and ostracized for speaking out against wrong doings within the Dept. It sucks, but I don't blame people like your husband for leaving. What else can they do? The change needs to come from higher up or from the people demanding it.

Or as an alternative, refuse to support the changes or pay taxes concerning it until it changes the right way. Ditto for any bill or law that is unjust in the least but in the right way, NOT rioting! I do NOT support rioting for any reason; there are always better ways to oppose unjust laws or happenings! Sit on the steps of the capitol and see how people they can try to arrest before the police simply give up and either join the protesters or refuse to do anything about it. Then see how people they can fire or suspend in law enforcement before the same happens, and so on and so forth. This is simplest but the safest way to do what we need to do. Or why not just build one of those plexiglass smoking rooms in each pod for people to smoke inside? Very inexpensive solution and would immediately cut the demand for overpriced smuggled in smokes.

@@michaelthompson8665 Because then like at home, in an apartment complex, or at work, other people still have to smell the stench whether they like it or not. Unlike farting, which can be helped somewhat by eating differently, smoking you can smell for hours afterwards whether you like it or not. Sure they their rights to an extent, but like regular outside of prison life would you make the libraries and workplaces to stink like that and tell people to deal with it and everybody else's similar problems? If your going to go even slightly down that path, I think we should stop viewing passing gas or burping as obnoxious. After all, it will go away in a minute, not 8 hours. Also, the problem isn't the price, but the fact that they shouldn't be rewarded with something to keep their habit intact. Besides, if you haven't smoked in 6 months or a year do you really think your going to be that addicted to smoking still? Yes, prisons can change a lot of things and I am very muich a proponent for prisons being made to actually rehab people and improve in other ways, but their comes a certain amount of payment anyway and that means maybe no smoking. your going to have to quit eventually anyway, why not in there? Also, as Moto below this comment says, "The punishment prisons supposed to enforce is the loss of freedom, not the loss of human dignity" i don't think anybody is going to think that not being able to smoke or obtain smokes in prison is a loss of human dignity or anything resembling that. Just my two cents. If I am wrong, then feel free to convince me.

This gets me worked up. I remember when I got caught up, I was going to court in Phoenix, AZ. I was in the holding cell underground below the court, this one guy was telling me his story... he was in Mesa, AZ. Walking down the sidewalk and someone broke into a small business... He walked by after it happened, after whoever broke in. Cops roll up, see this guy. Stop him, and search him. He had a record for drugs, been down. The cops find 1 GRAM OF WEED ON HIM. 1 fuckin gram!!! This is 3 months before medical was legalized in AZ. This guy went up to court, and after we all went to court...he came back in... He got 25 FUCKING YEARS FOR 1 GRAM OF WEED! WHAT THE FUCK?! Absolutely fucking ridiculous. Years later, it's legal, yet people are still doing time like that for weed. Are you kidding me?!?!

I completely agree, private prisons are one of the worst things ever conceived, and I've never even been to prison. On a different note, have you ever considered visiting the old Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio? It might be a good Halloween episode since they say its haunted. They also hold an annual tattoo and rock festival called INKcarceration (formerly Ink in the Clink) if you ever get the desire to visit the Buckeye state.
