@@karennicholls2296 actually, that statement is incorrect. I am a professionally classically trained musician so I do know about these things. It is perfectly possible for any musician, whether the be a singer or a practitioner of an instrument to act or play in such a way that they sound appalling. In fact, it is a real art form especially in the case of a pianist or organist to play in such a way that you can understand the piece that he or she is playing but there are glaring mistakes throughout. It needs a special skill to be able to pull that off and it is note a case of randomly bashing out notes on the instrument. The same can be said of singers too; it is an act and it is more successful to be able to perform in such a way if they are a very talented stinger.

Myra said about Janice Grant "Some people just don't have the guts that's all, if she wants to be a drunk that's her funeral" I am very shocked at this attitude from Myra since her own daughter struggled with drug addiction. And not to mention that she is supposed to be Top Dog - a person who is voted in by the women themselves because they all are confident that she will do the right thing by them.

Yes, she seems unsympathetic towards Jan. But she WAS trying to do the right thing by her, considering Jan wanted to keep her alcoholism under wraps and not ruin her career (which is surely already ruined by being convicted?). Myra was obviously in over her head on this one, and should've told the screws MUCH earlier. Reynolds was absolutely right having a go at her.

I think she sees the 2 addictions completely differently kay became an addict because her dad was killed by her mum and she had no parental roll model and was young where as Jan has had the perfect life with good education and a really well paid job that's y she has no sympathy for Jan!!

@Summer21.
@Summer21. 6 жыл бұрын
Do It Like The Bereans Myra should have made Lou and Alice tell Ann about the murder plan that they had set up for Myra, which Sam sadly succumbed to instead. I guess maybe Myra could have made Jan get help with her alcoholism, even though she swore her to secrecy for fear of her alcoholism coming out in the open would destroy her career. However, Jan being in prison surely would have ruined that already, wouldn't it?

As much as I adore this series, the writers and storytellers have been poisoned as well. Thank you for posting these classics. Also, letting Franks character go on this long was ridiculous. I love this series, especially 1979-1984
@ah7910
@ah7910 11 ай бұрын
Thank you fo saying that Charlie! I keep coming to the comments section, hoping somebody will say what I am feeling and you’re the first person that I’ve come across who has. I am by no means a Prisoner-purist, I was devastated when Bea left with so little fanfare but then did some research, watched some interviews and made peace with it after gaining some insight and context. I was sad of course when Lizzie left and of course, confused when Chrissie was snatched away so unceremoniously. But I have stuck with Prisoner, as like you, I love it. I have stuck with the repetitive recycled stories, the bizarre run of bad luck that has befallen Meg… I love Joan, but she is being underused. I like Reynolds, I adore Jude (although her character became so unlikeable when she was depressed and glum for so long). I have tried to like Myra but I’m just not taking to her. The new and younger cast, Bobbi (so glad she has gone now) and stupid Rabbit Warren and stupider Boy George impersonator - I care so little about. The writing is poor, the cast is boring, the stories are recycled and resolve quicker than you care to invest in… I find I have the episode on but I am just not paying attention like I used to. A shame. But like you say, 1979 to 1984 was brilliant. It would seem Val jumped shipped just at the right time. She seems like a very intelligent person when I watch interviews of her, and feel like she must have understood the writing was getting weaker.

I think the show was a victim of its own success in many ways. The audiences were still hanging on, but the new ideas were gone. As they said when the show did eventually end, there's only so much scope you have with characters based in a jail. It probably went on a couple of years too long. Certainly, actors like Elspeth Ballantyne (Meg Morris) said they were relieved when it ended because they needed that push to move on. It's interesting that none of the actors really broke out and became huge stars in the way several actors from the soap that followed Prisoner, (Neighbours) did.

Myra should have seen that coming at the end. That friend of Lou's had such a guilty look about her in the laundry when Myra approached her that it was obvious she was lying. They should lock Lou and Frank in a cell together and just leave them to kill each other. At least one of them would be dead then and that would be a start. Marlene's far too immature to get hitched. Kind of glad to see Lou Kelly back. She'll probably be up to all sorts of aggro. Merv Pringle is such a useless article. He gets right on my wick.

The new chef’s acting is on the same level as an amateur local theatre group. I’m am hanging in there with this series. The writing has got so bad, and I don’t feel I have connected with the newer characters. I am so glad Bobbi left and now I yawn loudly when Rabbit Warren or Boy George get so much screen time. I do miss the old legacy characters… but am open to new ones… but everything seems so ‘low stakes’ and recycled. Ridiculous and unbelievable scenarios… totally underusing Joan too. CRAP
