Love your Prius!! I'm considering lifting my 2006 Prius to 2". Any potential consideration I should be concerned about? I don't have a hitch or pull anything. I just want better clearance on speed bumps and drive ways. Thank you and Happy New Year!

I put on a 1 1/4 hitch if you need to go to 2 inch use an adapter. But looking to lift the prius for driveways and snow clearance during commute!

I wouldn't for one, more weight on the back, and second, the 2" inch hitch I use was made for the Prius. The receiver is angled a few degrees upward; it counteracts the drooping rear a Prius typically has and eliminates the need for a hitch riser. All that to say, it's designed, so you don't scrape the rear on driveways and such.

A 2" hitch adapter cantilevers the load so far back that you're putting a higher torque on your hitch. Force = Mass x Distance, so 500 lb x 1 ft is the same as 250 lb x 2 ft.

You can easily make it to Alaska from LA if you stick to the highways. The Alaska Highway is all a nice paved road, just with a small amount of well graded dirt road. Its a major transportation route, not an offroad course. Now along the way you may be tempted to take it off the highway for camping/etc, which is where you might want a bit more offroad capability. Thousands of people drive to Alaska ever year in things from Giant RV's to slammed Honda civics. Its not as hard core as it sounds.

I agree! I did it, and the only thing is, you need to bring a gas can with you. Gas is so far in between I ran out... mainly due to the O2 sensor throwing off mpg. The thought behind the Alaska comment is there is a belief going around that you cant lift a Prius higher than 1.5" or you'll experience an issue, or it's not recommended... that belief was put out by a company to sway owners from purchasing a lift kit taller than 1.5" and what the retail.
