Quoting other sources, the _alternator_ is 28V but the _battery_ is 24V. Which makes sense since the alternator needs to provide more "push" than the battery to actually cause energy to flow into the battery. So, I think The Flying New Guy had it right.

Yes, battery is not 28v. Alternator is 28v.
