Yeah Costa Rica and Central American cichlids are SO underrated in the hobby , probably because there isn't alot of farms like this one working to get all these beautiful fish in the hobby...I hadn't even heard of half these fish but wow I want them all!!!

The Fishy Life ! Central American cichlids are the Crown Jewels of the hobby, the reason you don’t see them very often is because their size. I have a vieja Melanura male just under 16 inches.

@@jcgarcia.4474 I'm sorry bro I strongly disagree with "crown Jewels of the hobby.. everyone knows that the hobby is dominated by S.A. cichlids whether discus, Oscar or geophagus (the real crown Jewels) but certainly central American cichlids are underrated and particularly Costa Rican cichlids like the world famous dovii but I think most LFS and fish stores you would be lucky to see a handful of central American cichlids if that...?

We eat so many of these. We have wuite a few in the caribbean. I keep a few at home now though as the rivers are becoming polluted.

I didn’t get any this trip. Perhaps I’ll do another video in the future talking about how to best keep them as hobbyists. Some of them are monsters but I think there were plenty that can be kept in something like a 40 breeder or 55

I believe he has immigrated here as of about 4 years ago and is staying with his wife here. I don’t believe he came to teach or study but he did work for a fish farm for a while after moving but now just runs his hatchery on their own property.

Tell Max that if he is collecting from the wild for breeding!~ He has to work to get what he is looking for, by way of generations of tank raised fish~ Third and forth generation will reproduce better and get more smaller eggs of many!~ If they are an issue with not good production from the start!
