It's insane how we've been living next door for so many years and never got to try this gem! I have to say that I don't buy the explanation on tuna though... it is always transported frozen so the quality argument seems a bit uneducated and mentioning sustainability makes you look nice but hides the unawareness of different types of tuna. Nonetheless, would love to try this place one day! 😋

Tomatoes are such an interesting plant. I once read that, unlike most plants, they can not only distinguish between day and night but also react to colors. For example, placing something red underneath them can help it to grow faster and differently.

De passie en het vakmanschap van deze mensen is echt ongekend. Mensen onderschatten vaak wat een werk er naast het bereiden van gerechten ook zit in het vergaren van kennis, sourcen van grondstoffen en wat een kei harde business het is. Je moet je leven er echt aan wijden, prachtig om te zien in deze video. Mijn highlight(s) was alle plating van de gerechten, echt kunstwerken. Mijn persoonlijke favoriet was de plating van de ragout 😍

Mijn highlight in 1 woord: BRENT Hij is gewoon een legend man. Van het laten hangen van een handshake tot het quasiment verstenen wanneer hij caviar op de hand geserveerd krijgt - entertainment van begin tot eind. Tijdens de mango sticky rice houdt hij dan ook nog eens zijn vork, die hij overigens niet gebruikt, vast in een soort van death grip, like he’s trying to hold on to dear life. Om het dan nog eens gracieus te beëindigen met een monsterlijke hap uit die oma wafel van Gert. Samengevat: Iconic.

The come up is real! For me the highlight is the wonderful blend of the sophistication of two men in suits about to enjoy all sorts of caviar, still finding the simplicity in that moment to say a phrase like: "da paas ik" before entering the star restaurant. Never change. Great episode

Your show is what "burgundy" Belgium has been missing. Two guys giving Belgian culinary masters their flowers is wholesome to witness. For me, the tomato dish was the star of the show. It is incredible how homegrown plant-based ingredients are used and manipulated in this dish. It shows that patience and believing in one's mission can only result in greatness. I look forward to your next videos! Ps. don't forget the poor food lovers ;)

Unbelievable what these guys achieved, and after those years still manage to create groundbreaking dishes, including their signature ones. Also want to mention the place itself, it looks so clean, calm and cozy, combined with the interior and tablewear, utterly stunning! Keep this series going, it's a pleasure to watch!

The highlight of this video was the Toro No Toro... man, who even thinks of that?! An extreme blend of fantastic ingredients to create a dish that elevates the way you experience food in its essence, absolute banger.. hope to experience this one day!

The highlight for me is definetely the philosophy behind the toro no toro dish. In times where a lot of chefs use tuna inspired by the Japanese cuisine, Gert rethinks it all to possibly create one of the best 'tuna' dishes. Hope to taste it one day 🙌

Het hoogtepunt van deze video voor mij was de passie van de chefs voor hun vak en hoe ze met veel trots seizoensgebonden en Belgische ingrediënten gebruiken. Super om te zien hoe Brent en Arno genieten van de kaviaar gerechten. Hun oprechte enthousiasme terwijl ze de smaakexplosie beschreven, liet perfect zien hoe Hertog Jan van fijnproeverij een onvergetelijke ervaring maakt. Het zijn momenten als deze die je doen beseffen hoeveel vakmanschap er schuilgaat achter elk gerecht.

For me, the tomato dish was the standout moment of the video. I don’t have much experience with fine dining, and while the video showcased premium ingredients like caviar, I found it inspiring as a passionate hobby chef. I love working with simple, accessible vegetables and experimenting with different techniques to create something unique, just like in the video. I love it when chefs make things as explosive as possible in terms of flavour in the simplest way possible. For me, that makes the difference between good and extraordinary restaurants. You feel the whole team is inspired and respected by each other. The authenticity splashes off the screen. it is also blissful to see how 2 guys each believe in a dream and make it come true together. I am very curious about toro no toro dish. My favourite fish is also tuna but due to the lack of sustainability in catching it, I try not to eat it anymore. So I am very curious about the taste of this. Good to see that they are also concerned with the ecological wrapping of their dishes and the origin of their products. That totally fits in with their story. 😍😍😍

Loved the video! My highlight was the tomato dish. So inspiring! I have a little greenhouse in my garden were I grow a few tomatoes. I try to vary with different cultivars through the season and the range of flavors and colors amazes me every time! I can totally imagine how the dish will be similar in spirit, but wildly different in taste with the changing of the seasons. I really like these kind of super seasonal dishes 🥰

I do not have instagram and went to an event at the botanic sanctuary. Really like the authentic touch of the chefs. Great to bring the Belgian food culture out there. The tomatoes and partridge were the top dishes. Simple but not easy. Throughout the dinner finding combinations I did not think of is amazing. Coffee in slaty dishes, and more. I am glad you have enjoyed

Wat geweldig om te zien hoe alles zo perfect in elkaar past! Het interieur, de prachtige opmaak van de gerechten, en natuurlijk het verhaal van de chefs. Great episode guys, favourite part was definitely the awkward ghost handshake when you were handing out gifts. Now as to why I would very much like to win this contest; fun story and an almost unbelievable coincidence. In the late 1700’s my great great great great great grandfather, Jean-Henri Adelbrecht Corbesier won a similar contest and a free meal at the Hertoch-Janus tavern, as it was called then, by commenting on a social media contest. Of course there was no KZbin back in the day, so it was probable an MSN Messenger or ICQ contest. But anyway, his incredible story of a free 14 course meal at the tavern has been passed through our family for over 8 generations. Would be awesome to add a next chapter to it. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

Really nice video guys, for me the favorite part is the waffle part. It's a tradition in our family to go to our grandparents once a year to eat as many waffles as your heart desires. And they really are the best, so would be curious to compare them to my grandparents.

Watching the video, I was captivated by how the restaurant weaves Japanese inspiration into the fabric of Belgian cuisine. The highlight for me was the tomato dish. It appeared simple yet turned out to be one of Brent's favorite dishes ever. This dish truly embodies the slogan "simplicity isn't simple," highlighting how meticulous craftsmanship can transform humble ingredients into an extraordinary experience. As a foreign student in Belgium, it was so nice to find out that so many amazing products (caviar, tuna, etc) are made here!

The absolute highlight for me was seeing how a top chef uses his experience from kitchens all over the world in dishes that are Belgian. All those great produces, from our little country. It’s insane. Look at the verity of tomatoes. I would love to try that dish! (And would like to taste the tomatoes all by themselves to taste the diverence 😉)

What an amazing experience! The absolute highlight of the video was, without a doubt, how passionately Gert and Joachim talk about their craft - so inspiring! Despite caviar's prominent presence, the focal point of the first three snacks, Chef Gert has somehow crafted elegant, purposeful, and utterly mouthwatering dishes without any hint of pretension. This is a rare feat, which many restaurants try but fail to achieve. The "toro" dish is absolutely genius - the level of creativity is mesmerising. Definitely added to my list! Thank you for the preview. I wonder what the wine/drink pairing will be like....

Geweldig om te zien hoe deze man samen met zijn zakenpartner hier een top plek neerzet. Als Nederlander leerde ik Gert kennen in het programma over hobby-koks. Sinds toen mijn verdiept in hem en het is werkelijk prachtig om te zien hoe hij gerechten zo eenvoudig kan laten lijken en vooral heel ver gaat met de smaak combinaties en het verhaal. Werkelijk waar genieten dit.

Great video guys. My highlights was just seeing a chef seemingly as interested in food and down to earth as the day when he may have started cooking, no ego and no horrible vail of vain or fake kindness.

The ode to his grandmother in this episode. As we all know grandmothers are the real OGs when it comes to cooking. How they communicatie and spread their love through food and making sure there is ALWAYS more than enough. The first thing my grandma always said when I only just stepped a toe in the doorstep... Heb je honger? Nice memories of my grandma (cooking).

My highlight: they knew each other for a few weeks and decided to push through and actually get 3 Michelin Stars together! Absolute mad lads, and respect they decided to leave that concept and start anew on a new passion project 🎉

Het hoogtepunt van deze video was de volledige tocht doorheen een kunstenaar zijn leven. Kunstwerkjes die zich telkens opnieuw heruitvinden en er nooit op dezelfde manier uitzien, maar toch telkens weer met dezelfde passie en vakmanschap tot één harmonieus geheel op het bord worden neergezet. Het moet een eer zijn om deze tocht te mogen volgen en een deel uit te mogen maken van dit museum van heerlijke ambacht.

Highlight was the part about the Toro No Toro. Cool way to use what is sustainable and available to replicate something that is desirable. Very nice episode!

Great to discover your show. So many highlights. Hard to pick one that stroke me the most. Of course there is the love for family and friends the chef incorporates trough the menu/experience. Foodwise, the way he uses caviar seems different than so many (highend) restaurants. Often it seems like just an expensive topping. With the first 3 appetisers, caviar is throughly the main ingredient. Looked incredible dishes.

it wasn't actually beef! it was beetroot dat was dry aged to achieve the flavour and the texture of beef!

Ik vond het combineren van Holstein vet en Nederlandse hamachi echt een hele toffe en slimme oplossing voor het probleem dat ze omschreven. Maar dat tomatengerecht klinkt ook wel écht te gek!

Hoe iemand als Gert zichzelf blijft heruitvinden is ongelofelijk. Het voorbeeld van hoe passie naar excellentie leidt. Mijn favoriete moment is wanneer we na een wereldreis aan ingrediënten aankomen bij een eenvoudige Belgische wafel à la Elsa, een wafel die op zijn beurt Gert doet terugdenken aan zijn oma en de heren naar huis laat gaan met een warm hart!
