Thanks for the clarification, my therapist initially suggested either DBT or ACT and I'm scheduled for the first DBT session but I think I might benefit from this more after seeing the video. Thank you.

I need MAJOR help to say the least but I don't even know where to start! 00:55 on Wednesday morning and as usual sat up enduring unwanted thoughts, memories, feelings, traumas, poverty, isolation, discomfort, suicidal thoughts, depression, anger and all the bad. Can I ever be okay?

Good content but it is really difficult to hear what you're saying, I recommend checking the volume before you publish (upload as "unlisted" or "private"), also applying a filter to remove echo (since you are in a closed room where sound bounces off the walls) would be a good idea. Thank you for your video

the white letters in light blue background are very difficult to read. Using dark blue or purple would be better. But to reduce eye sore, I can really only suggest black background, but I know it looks weird and unattractive. You could always also use black letters in a bright background, so merely changing the letters from white to black while keeping the light blue background would probably be really good.

My problem is that I doubt thoughts and argue. I don't just observe them and that's takes a lot of energy

When it's said that we can't control our thoughts which types of thoughts are these? There are thoughts we can control. If I want to consciously think of eating a certain food I can do that. If I want to think or imagine myself being in a certain place I can do that.

ACT stems from CBT, it comes from CBT, it's like a child of CBT.

ACT is just rudimentary buddhist principles, some mindfulness/meditation and a whole mishmash of confused theory of language that adds nothing at all. In other words, CBT in spandex with some incense. I'm sure you will cite an evidence base but really the effectiveness of psychotherapy has been controversial for decades. I can find top shelf research that even supports the effectiveness of freudian approaches.

different approaches have different effects in different people. It is natural for people to cringe in front of some methods and get resistant to them just as it is natural for other people to like and relate to these same methods and respond well to them. There are forms of therapy that knowingly uses placebo effect to get a person more comfortable and able to talk about the problems they want to talk about and can't because of overthinking, this doesn't work on those who know about the placebo affect and it's fine, methods should not be meant to be universal. There will probably be methods out there that resonate better with you. People more linked to science respond better to more objective and rational approaches that other people farther away from this interest show resistant to, for finding it less natural or less human for them or just farther from their ways of thinking and expressing themselves.

@@ynntari2775 Your reply did not address my critique. You're just saying that some people prefer some therapies more than others. Really? You mean some people like chocolate and some strawberry? Amazing. My criticism is that ACT is old wine in new bottles. Some borrowed buddhist principles, a "theory" behind it that is linguistic finger painting- abstract, irrelevant, confused with no connection between theory and practice. You could do ACT while using Sesame Street as theory. A total disconnect. And most practitioners do.

You are an example of the Dunning Krugger effect. So let me briefly explain. 1) Psychotherapies are largely effective 2) Which one, - the dodo effect - "all have one and all have prizes" (Alice in Wonderland) 3) There are some common factors as to why 4) For this you need to understand Friston's Free Energy Principle . To truly educate yourself about that you would need to go to The Weekend University and absorb the later half of Professor Jeremy Holmes lecture. Now, stop being very arrogantly foolish about what you don't really know, and go back to stuff that you do.
