Easy Power Gains on my 240sx and 300zx!

The ka24de swapped 300zx is definitely one of my slower project cars, but I feel as though it should be faster. Who knew it was a fuel pump away from gaining easy horse power through regular maintenance.
My 240sx project car has been going through fuel filters and fuel pump socks too often. Today we take a closer look at what is happening inside the fuel tank and make the corrections to resolve this issue. I also get my very first ride in an R34 Nissan skyline with an rb25 Neo!
I spent the last 7 years building this 1990 Nissan 240sx from the ground up by myself. I swapped out the KA24e for a KA24de. Then once more for a RB25det out of a R34 Skyline and couldn't be happier. I have also converted the 240 to right hand drive, (which ended up saving my life!) After installing a few drift parts; such as a hydro E - Brake, and dual rear calipers, welded diff, solid suspension bushings and more, the car handled amazing. Surprisingly this S13 was able to drift and stay sideways perfectly despite the damage that was done to it.

ka typically needs an upgraded fuel pressure regulator to handle the 255 Waldro. The stock one can’t take the pressure of the pump and eventually gives up and your fuel pressure will shoot through the roof. I would recommend getting a fuel pressure gauge that you can read while driving.

Whatever the fuel pump looks like on the gauges is the one you need to go to. On the 300zx the filler showed that the gas pump needed to be on the drivers side, which it was

Usually with the fuel gauge is whichever way the nozzle is facing, so the hose is on the right, but the nozzle is facing left so your fuel filler is on the left side, and if it was fuel holes on the left side with a nozzle facing to the right, it will be on the right side

The Fuel pump Handle thing is more common for newer cars. However Mercedes VW and some others started this really early. On modern Car you can see and arrow sometimes pointing you where the door is. However even thought the Z does not have it, check weather your other cars might have this gadget. When all the other Nissan‘s only habe it by accident then i think they had a hard time figuring out why other Makes and Models where more popular. Idk 😂 Love your Content Mike ! I guess everyone suffers with fuel pumps lol, my dad's chevy hatchback a few years ago didn't start anymore, i pointed maybe it was the fuel pump since we didn't hear it humming. We had to remove the reat seats to get to it, it was also the first fix in a car that i saw

Having an indicator for which side the fuel filler is on is a newer feature. New-ish cars will have that but not these old ones.

Keep in mind the Z32 fuel pumps are funky sized because theyre a multi stage pump. Might be worth bypassing the FPCU as well (if not already done) to keep the walbro happy

About the fuel door location, you can tell but it’s more in modern cars, which next to the fuel symbol it has an arrow pointing left or right, in older cars they don’t have the arrow, next time you get in a relatively more modern car ( I would guess like 2010 or so) take a look at it. It’s pretty interesting.

Everyone needs that one friend like Logan 🤣 reminds me of a friend of mine. Walbro 255's are just loud, but if its a legit one with the stamping on the side of the pump they can last forever if you don't run them dry or below a 1/4 tank because it uses fuel to cool itself. The people are right... it does indicate where the fuel door is, just some only show the orientation of the station pump and the pump handle is on the right. Meaning your fuel tank door is on the left 🙃 fuel lines and tank on your 240 could of rusted being sat up for so long. Any ethanol content fuel will introduce moisture to the fuel system. Dealing with that on my amc hornet. Ruined the tank, lines and carb 😑I'm never going to get that car done 😅 always something eh

The fuel door location depends on if the car was assembled in the US or not cars that where assembled out of the US that are typically rhd have the filler on the rhd side where typically lhd Cars have it on the left

Hope you kept your old fuel tank. That dent is an eye sore and you're going to loose capacity with how caved in that looks. Go get that thing cleaned out and maybe have the outside coated. I use a business local to me that refurbishes old gas tanks and they come out looking like new. I'm sure you can find one by you.

One thing I noticed with fuel doors. 6cyl cars and trucks it’s on the driver side, 4cyl cars have it on the passenger side.

The fuel filler neck is typically on the opposite side of the exhaust. Obviously this won’t work for dual exhausts.

Looked like that other tank was WAY cleaner than your original. Probably a good call swapping over despite the dent in the bottom. Even the top of the sender unit looked in somewhat better condition. I have my original tank in storage and it too has a dent in the bottom. Must be a 240 thing. Did you strap the plastic protective shroud back on? Not everyone still has those!

There is a way to know where your fuel trap is or isn’t. It will never be to the same side as the exhaust tip. I think. I hope. 😂
