As a firefighter, I have had the humbling honour of being the last face someone sees on a number of occasions. This is spot on. People don’t move around or roll their head to one side, they don’t breath out a last word - they lie there and die. You might hold their hand as a form of communication or comfort, but you’ll never know if they can actually feel that hold. To communicate with a dying person - look at their eyes, that’s the only part of them that is still living. And all of a sudden it stops.

Tony's death felt so _real_ to me when seeing it I was really surprised. Not because I was projecting any emotional connection, but I was just watching RDJ act and was really impressed with his _stillness._ My grandfather was suffering from Alzheimer's for years leading to his death part of that is plaques, abnormal clusters of protein fragments, build-up between nerve cells in the brain. unlike some degenerative diseases where you are a sharp mind trapped inside your own body, it's like you're a consciousness trapped inside a computer with a progressively spotty internet connection. You're only able to take in so much when your brain gets "fried" like Tony's did. Another thing is that one of the parts of death people don't think about especially when people see a fully dead body, is how _still_ it is; Why hikers who stumble onto bodies often think it's trash or a pile of clothes at first. It's bizarre to see a human body not moving at _all_ like that, you don't see it everyday outside of death. and in relation to Tony, It's not that the dying person is necessarily too weak to move, so you get this start-stop, but there just isn't any energy, *period.* His movements struct me because of how minimal they were, because he was basically a corpse at that point, simply refusing to die from sheer force of will alone until he got the go-ahead. He was already pretty faded out by the time the others got to him, with just enough echos of energy to keep vaguely conscious. Him already starting from a place of stillness at that point in the scene and ending with his little remaining focus just _gone_ worked perfectly for me. He couldn't THINK let alone communicate, he was so fried at that point, only being able to listen occasionally and wait for that thing that has been driving his existence at his _very core_ to be said; We're okay, We're safe. And when that was said, it was less of a choice and more of a completion of his sole/soul mission.

What I took away from Tony's death in Endgame was by that point he was pretty much fried. Like he was probably barely aware of what was going on, he doesn't speak, he doesn't seem to easily focus or stay focused on anyone. Tony was pretty much so far gone at that point he wasn't able to have any sorta "I'm I gonna die, do I want to die?" thoughts. He seems to be in a constant state of drifting, snapping into focus for brief moments when someone gets in his face or touches him but it doesn't last long. I always found the very human appearance of him to be entirely fitting and if he weren't as pale, old, and broken it would not have made Vader as impactful as he was.

But it also shows that there still was a human beneath.

I didn't really have an issue with Tony Stark's death. I feel like the acceptance came before the damage itself and after he snapped his fingers that damage was so profound that all he had left was some resistance to the inevitable. His wife giving him that permission to rest was what he needed. And as cheesy as this will sound, it's because my dad had multiple organs go from uncontrolled diabetes (please take care of yourself if you have that) and in the end, he had to be reassured that he could forgive himself for things he'd done in his life and go ahead and rest. He passed relatively quickly after that. So there's that realism as I see it.
@Alex-bn3ix4 жыл бұрын
I would say that I didn't have a problem with Robert Downey Junior's acting, but I had a problem with Iron Man's death. I only have a problem because of the writers in the first place, not because of personal attachment to the character. The writers made him out to be Moses, a super convenient miracle worker. The guy solved time travel, he learned how to use advanced alien technology that was centuries if not millennia ahead of Earth, in literally days (they had him make Ultron using the Tesseract in like less than 2 or 3 days I think), and he was operating spaceships (that Earth definitely never had) that went past the speed of light and hopped around the Universe, yet they don't let him make some kind of device to use the stones and absorb or insulate their energy without killing him. The urgency of Endgame never made any sense to me. As soon as they figured out time travel, they could have prepared and planned their asses off, they could have powered up and made back up plan after back up plan to use the stones once they got them, instead they went with the blind faith eyes firmly shut "let's hope nothing goes wrong and no one follows us back" and the desperate urgency of "we have to go now". No one was going to stop them, the quantum realm wasn't going anywhere, it's not like the people who had been snapped were waiting to be saved, or any other reason existed for their urgency. If you are trying to save half the population of the Universe, don't you want to be sure that you get that right? Then again, they really never should have even had the chance to undo the snap after Marvel created such a preposterously over powered Villain like Thanos. All he had to do was include ALL of the heroes in the half of the population of Earth (and the Universe) that got snapped, it's not like half the population of Earth dying means only half of the heroes die, all of the heroes can definitely die and just be part of the half of Earth that dies while normal average people take their places and stay alive on the living half. That or Thanos could have just wiped everyone's memory of the snapped people, and wiped all traces of the snapped people, so that the Universe would just go on with business as normal. Of course Thanos had to be another incompetent Villain with poorly explained motives so that the heroes could beat an adversary they really never should have had the chance of beating. It's so odd looking back how none of the Marvel films have any real stakes or true tension when it comes to the heroes, but then in the last 2 movies the writers went "Yeah, so let's kill off Gamora for good, then Black Widow for good, and then Iron Man for good, under random and dubious circumstances".

I feel like this guy isnt taking the WAY these characters are dying into effect. - First, he says Caesar was stabbed in the heart, he wasnt, he was stabbed in the neck. Why does this matter? Because it means it is a slow and painful death, where he has to watch the man who killed him stare back at him while he dies. Was this scene great? Yes very. Just like he said. The problem tho is when you go to other deaths he criticized here, like RDJ, or Dafoe, Or Jackson, or the daughter from Godfather. All of them were fine for the movies they were in. - RDJ had already made his peace with his death, you saw that earlier, the rest was not about his "death" it was about the other characters realizing what happened and what he did. - Dafoe in Spiderman, he was stabbed in the gut, it is in no way an "instant" death by any means, and the fact that he did die so fast should tell you that it was meant to play out as a campy comic scene in where the villain has one last thing he has to say. - Jackson, the entire movie was a stereotype of that genre and therefore for him to play it out the way he did was perfectly acceptable. Had he taken it more seriously it would not have fit with the rest of the feel of the movie. - The daughter from Godfather, it was a shock to her that she got shot, she realizes that she did, but she doesnt understand why or how or what is going to happen, so her last moment is calling for her dad. - Portman in Starwars. Now I hate me some prequels, but not for this reason at all. She had her head straight forward, when someone dies they lose muscle control, so her head would naturally fall to the side, as far as the eyes closing, she "gave up" after Anakins betrayal, therefore she had already made her peace with dying, she was pleading for everyone else to forgive him. So her eyes closing is a simple gesture of this giving up and going to sleep process. I am no flim actor or teacher, but this guy does not seem to take into account the films they are in before assuming his opinion on them.

Just watched the book of Eli THAT TWIST AT THE END WAS INCREDIBLE
@mattpeterson30023 жыл бұрын
I liked the twist too, UNTIL, they placed the Bible next to the Quran. You see, the movie implied that a divine force was SOMEHOW helping him survive. As the viewer, DESPITE Eli dying, you will conclude that the Christian God MUST have helped Eli survive, in order to "Spread the Message." It's the only LOGICAL conclusion. But then, when you see the Bible placed next to the Quran, you are left with only ONE possible conclusion: The Christian God is NOT any more special or "true" than Allah, or any other God. All that has been shown is that now a bunch of historical books have been saved. This essentially negates the entire plot of the movie, which is that the God of the Bible is no more special than the any of the other authors whose books have been saved, like Shakespeare, Melville, Hemingway, etc. You COULD choose to say that because Judaism, Christianity AND the Islam are Abrahamic religions, so ONE specific God COULD have preserved all three books. This would imply that all 3 religions hold the truth. However, for THAT idea to have made sense, you would have had to also have Jewish, Christian AND Islamic characters in the film survive through impossible odds, and that did not occur. Overall, an excellent movie, but in the end, it failed lofically in it's very basic premise. I surmise that the reason that the producers/writers did NOT show ONLY The Bible, is because it would have caused an.enormous controversy. For the record, I do not support any religious view over another as being the "Absolute Truth."

I disagree with most of what this guy’s saying... Half the time he talks about the choices of the filmmaker but other times just ignores it... half of the time he’s just ignoring tons of symbolism and bashing scenes for unrelated reasons to the acting, like Darth Vader’s death, he literally says the actor did a great job but the scene was never going to work because you can see how weak the man in the suit is... CUZ THAT’S THE POINT. Maybe this dude is a good acting teacher but he doesn’t seem to know shit about movies.

THIS, this is exactly everything wrong with this video, thank you for expressing what i was thinking.
@Dreadnott1174 жыл бұрын
This is exactly the reason his critique of Robert Downey Junior in Endgame makes no sense to me... Tony had made his peace with what he had to do. There were even a couple shots where Dr. Strange communicated silently with him about "the moment." He was also a vegetable at that point due to the effects of the stones, something which, again, was explained and shown in this same damn movie. This dude doesn't actually seem to have any working knowledge of what he's critiquing. Either that, or he clearly does NOT understand some genres and has no place critiquing them.

Bruh I was thinking the same thing idk wtf this dood is talking about like whenever I watched return of the Jedi and darth Vader helped Luke and then at the end he peacefully dies that was such a strong moment even as a kid I knew he was the bad guy but I still felt deeply saddened by his death very few movies can do that. Like how he said something about Joaquin in gladiator that you subliminally think he was misunderstood I was like what? When I watched that I was like hell yeah he deserves to die I had no second thoughts about his death, darth Vader though is a different story.

I disagree with his analysis on Vader’s death. Vader living had this overwhelming sense of power and control, the mask covering his expressions making it impossible to read him and his booming voice. Then his helmet removed, his face absolutely chewed up, and sickly pale, his voice frail and unsteady. Overall considering that the suit was keeping him alive it makes perfect sense he would look this way and it makes you feel sorry for him even after everything hes done. You saw him as a dying father instead of a dying villain
@IcedEarth4264 жыл бұрын
I agree. All throughout the trilogy we only knew Vader as this ultra powerful, remorseless, imposing figure. But once the mask is removed the audience is shown literally and figuratively an image of a broken man. It runs completely opposite to what the audience has known up until this point. Not only is his actual mask from his suit being removed, which expedites his death, but we see the facade of irredeemable Vader being removed since he essentially would rather kill himself than let his son be murdered.

Thing with Kingsman though is that the way that Samuel Jackson dies is totally appropriate for the film. It's not meant to be a serious film. It's meant to be a piss take of bond and other spy films. the deaths are meant to be a bit over the top.

Stephen Boyd as messala in 1959 Ben hur. He's [ Messala] trying to live and fight death and the agony of being ran over by a horse chariot just so he can taunt Juda . I don’t know what ER this person is working in to be seeing literal death scenes like these, but in the ER I worked in, 99% of the time ppl coming in were either DOA or already down (non responsive) and being worked on, meaning they’re wearing neck brace and intubated. Most times you’re not going to see a person actively responsive go down. I can count on one hand the number of times I saw someone go from talking to dead and they were all MIs (heart attacks). "Lack of trust in the audience" is a perfect summation of the Star Wars prequels. For some reason, Lucas felt need to explain everything and beat it into our heads. He took the wonder of imagination away from the audience and replaced it with superfluous exposition.

@@ketoshrkboi6370 Never heard Samuel L. Jackson stated to be a character actor because like you said, he really doesn’t fit the bill by definition. That said, I guess you don’t really have to diversify your performance per role to be considered a character actor. Peter Stormare for example.

I would have thought an honorable mention would have been Patroclus' death in Troy. Garrett Hedlund did a great job conveying the fear and shock the character was experiencing. Obviously the character was no stranger to combat, and death. He knew getting your throat cut would be horrible, but somehow he manages to convey in such a brief time that he himself underestimated just how horrible it is, hence the shock. An underrated performance by an underrated actor in my opinion.
