The arrangement was done by Layne, the beatboxer. Geoff wrote and arranged the "swing" section at the end. Layne frequently does multiple tracks of beat boxing. I am a huge Voiceplay fan, I love their creativity and their willingness to take risks with their work. Since they have no label or manager, they can do anything. I will always be here for them!!

“That just gives me so much dopamine for no reason” pretty much sums up how I feel about VoicePlay! I don’t know anything about music theory or performance technique or whatever, but their music gives my brain happy fuzzy chemicals and I love them!

I taught this to my 3rd through 5th graders this past fall as part of our classical music genre/Halloween music. First we listened to this version to get them engaged, then We watched and listed to an orchestra playing it. We discussed musical themes and listened for dynamics, tempo, mood, timbre of the voices vs instrumentation, etc... We studied and learned about Grieg and Peer Gynt. Then we went from that to listening to March of the Trolls, which inspired The Skeleton Dance (with entire themes and parts of the music taken from March of the Trolls and used in the Disney music for The Skeleton Dance. We listened and compared and then watched how The Skeleton Dance has now been set to Spooky Scary Skeletons. We watched that too. Then I showed them the modern a capella version by Peter Hollens. It was a FUN October!

Of course you can do it again. I think they deserved an a capella award for this - it's like nothing else. Eli (green guy) tried to throw a carrot into the pot at the beginning. Liz (lavender lady) wouldn't let Eli do that. After seeing what happened when Layne threw his carrot in (4 of them disappeared fast and Layne a bit slower) you know why. The song would have ended too soon. Each addition to the cauldron, changed the various themes, tempos, and voices! You are delightful to listen to and enjoy! We Don't Talk About Bruno is another fun one.

Although Layne has been arranging about half of their songs (recently Eli has joined the mix), occasionally he will take on a “passion project” that not all of the members like to do. It usually means a lot more theatrical production. Well, they just filmed another of Layne’s passion projects. I know the setting is insane (and only doable if you own your own studio!). I’m sure you will love it too. It probably won’t premier until next month, but don’t miss it!

This is one of my all time favorite VP videos ever! Love that they can take an instrumental piece and do it all with voice. ❤🎶

I've never seen a reactor comment on it, but of the five characters, Geoff, (the bass) and Cesar, the red imp-looking fellow, are the only ones that don't sample the potion. Eli, (pronounced Ellie, in green makeup), Layne (the beatboxer), and Elizabeth all sample the potion at least once, with effects on their voices.

This is one of my absolute favorites. The level of creativity and humor are off the charts. (Both of the voices in the merch ad afterwards are Layne).
@Aurora-cv5to7 ай бұрын
Layne and Geoff are the two founding members of VP, and to my ears they have the synergy and sheer awesomeness of the storied bass/drums combos. Legend is, when Scott Porter left (founding member, beatbox and now well known in tv) they were discussing the challenge of finding a really good beatboxer. Layne stepped forward, commenting - we can ALWAYS find a baritone. Layne has commented that he started beatboxing at 15. In the earliest videos I've seen Layne was good - but you can really watch him develop and change through the years. He never stops adding new sounds and effects. 3-4 years ago he did a series of minis with a lot of machine sounds, computer sounds, strange harmonic frequencies that SOUND like distortion. Sure enough, soon after those kinds of effects started making their way into their - regular performances. I was fascinated by Greatest Showman (another Layne arrangement) because there is one line in it where everyone beatboxes, one at a time, one after the other. Not 110%, but decent, and interesting to hear all of them taking a turn. Even their featured guest, Rachel Potter.

Love your reaction- thanks! Former member, J None, left to join the Navy and is active duty but still comes back frequently as a guest when he is on leave. When J None is not in the cover you will see various featured guest that they have known for years as they are from Orlando Florida and have worked together at the theme parks and on the cruise ships. Their makeup artist here is Rick Underwood, long time friend that did their makeup when they worked for Universal theme park.

Love seeing Layne (beatbox / baritone) getting the recognition he deserves here. Geoff (bass) is an amazing talent, but I feel like a lot of reactors overlook everyone else in the group. Everything Voiceplay does is fantastic, but since you mentioned him specifically, my favorite Layne moments are in We Don't Talk About Bruno, Drunken Sailor, and Nothing Else Matters.

Thank you Mr. Klown for a priceless reaction to Voice Play. Please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of ( Halo ) the theme song from the video game Halo. The composer of the music said it was the best ever, he loved it. Please watch until the credits stop rolling so you can hear a very important message at the end. You will love it. Only Voice Play can take music without words & do it a capella style.

Hey Klown, If you really Love the Bass his Name is Geoff Castellucci and you Really need to React to his Solo Songs. You will Definitely need to React to His Song " I SEE FIRE" And All his other Solo Projects that he does it all with his wife Cathy. Geoff Is Super Super Talented and I Really Hope That You React to One of His Solo Projects Very Very SOON.

They did a Soundgarden song called Black Hole Sun, they did a cyberpunk take on it. It's very nice and they have done several songs for games, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halos Theme song, Valhalla Calling and Sleeping in the Cold Below, just to name a few. They dont always dress up for their songs but they are amazing even then. They're my favorite group out of the three main a capella bands. I've watched all three every since the Sing Off, a singing competition on TV, that they were all in.

Their take on this is brilliant. First, to take a well-known classical instrumental piece and turn it a capella is astounding on its on. To then tell a whole story without saying a word next-level. The arrangement here is absolutely masterful when you dig deep into some of technical nuisances in this one.

Since VoicePlay are independent, they don't get the publicity that the other major groups can afford. But being independent means they can tackle unimaginable projects without having to stay in one lane/Layne. There's a massive variety in their work.
@christinestromberg40577 ай бұрын
When we say VoicePlay will tackle any genre we mean it. This is a totally orchestral piece with no words at all. But they killed it with an amazing arrangement. For another theatrical style video check out their cover of The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim. In one of their videos: Dream On, Layne makes a sound that had people wondering how he made it, and he admits that he faked it on the filming as it looks too ridiculous when he does it. So we don't get to see it for real.
@DravenGal7 ай бұрын
You were channeling Christopher Walken for a couple minutes at the beginning of this video, LOL! Also, Voiceplay has four core members, Geoff, Eli, Cesar and Layne (left to right in this video). J. None is signing with the Navy. So they have several guest stars they rotate to take up the fifth place, several of them are wonderfully talented women. Also, Voiceplay's lineup has changed a bit throughout the years.💙

I love seeing how much you loved this. VoicePlay is amazing for so many reasons but Geoff (the bass) and Layne (the beatboxer) are both uniquely talented. Geoff’s bass is the lowest of all the acapella groups and Layne doesn’t just do beats. They like to have fun and play so he does all kinds of funky and weird sounds as you saw here. You really will have fun with this group!! If you liked this one you might also enjoy Hide and Seek (Ding Dong). Their Little Mermaid Medley is a great one to see the Beatboxer’s skills. As is Seven Nation Army. Really, you can’t go wrong. Have fun! ❤

It's so great to see someone react to this one who cannot only appreciate the technical elements, but really get into the humor and storytelling that they are doing. I know I am biased in favor of VoicePlay over Home Free and Pentatonix, and freely admit that. I think it's because while I love a lot of country music, that's not the only genre I want to listen to, and Pentatonix doesn't seem to have nearly the fun that VoicePlay does. I am proud to be a VoicePlay (and Geoff) Patron, because Patreon support allows VoicePlay to do these 'out of the box' arrangements like this one, which, although being amazing arrangements and performances, are just not destined to be the kind of videos that are going to generate a lot of repeat play on any of the platforms. We patrons think, from the hints that we've seen and heard so far, that Layne may be cooking up another video using a classical piece of music, but turning it on its head with a spectacular arrangement and setting, so keep your eyes out for that one.
