When Cesar seems to take the bass line (around 4:44), that's actually Layne singing - just as it's actually Rachel singing when Cesar seems to go so high. Post for the video made it look like Cesar was switching voices with those around him.

Since you were commenting on all of Layne's beatbox concepts, I thought I would point out that ALL of the aural concepts are Layne's as he was the arranger for this. So much more than the beatbox ideas. Now, visually the others were involved with the staging ideas, although I believe the overall concept for this one was also Layne's. It was really cool watching the Behind the Scenes on Patreon this time, as it included the rehearsal and staging ideas. Usually the BTS is only on the day of the actual shoot.

I find it so funny when people get mad about reactors pointing out post-processing with Voiceplay because both Geoff and Layne (maybe the others too, but I haven't heard it myself) have been fairly open in interviews about post-processing, effects, and layering voices in their videos. Layne goes through it in a decent amount of detail in his interview with The Charismatic Voice!
@hollyryalsgrubb12735 ай бұрын
This is a crazy complex creation! Stellar! I kinda think it's a bit better, maybe? Yes, Layne uses filters to emphasize. If you are interested in a long form interview, The Charismatic Voice discussed his beatboxing, arranging and digital audio work with Layne (a few years ago). It's really enjoyable and gives great insight into some of his approach. She also interviewed Geoff, too, which was also enjoyable.

They do add post production (as does any artist that records), adding layers and filters. Layne did an interview explaining how he cleans up some of the sounds for the recording. I think it was either with Full Sail University or the Charismatic Voice, I can’t remember which. But you can only do so much in post-they have to be pretty close to perfect to start with. Since this is obviously a recording I don’t see the problem. But when they performed live it was just them. I don’t believe that they would ever try to do something like this live because it’s just way too complex. But they have done live performances of some of the others that were fairly complex in the past. (They stopped touring when Covid happened and have pretty much focused on this part of their careers because they have young children at home and it’s just harder to travel. in addition a lot of them do outside work as well so that makes it pretty darn hard also. ). You might watch to see if you can find the recording of them doing Oogie Boogie live for instance. I’ve seen where they projected Santa on the screen and they did all the vocals on stage.

Voiceplay don’t hide that they do post production tweaks. It starts as raw vocals and then they do their magic. People don’t seem to realise that it would often be very hard to clearly hear Geoff and Laynes bits behind the vocals if there wasn’t any post production on it. They are not a live touring band anymore (sadly) which is why they can go all out with their videos and they do a phenomenal job! Patreon money well spent and if I could afford to go top tier I would in a heartbeat! On an earlier reaction, I mentioned that all of the members have some beatbox skill and was quickly corrected in the comments. Yeah, they add stuff in post-processing all the time. What they _don't_ do is use musical instruments without showing it opely in the video, like the violin in Nothing Else Matters. The basis for everything else, apart from an occasional easily-recognized sound clip like the Wilhelm scream or another very well-known bit they use in We Don't Talk About Bruno, is their voices.

Layne openly admits he adds processing. I don't know why people would get upset at someone for pointing out the obvious. Did they not also hear the electronic processing on Rachel's voice in that run during Night on Bald Mountain?
@jonadabtheunsightly5 ай бұрын
Yes, Layne is on record stating that VP uses post-processing and such for the official audio "because we can". It's not that they can't do live performances; they can and sometimes do (albeit, much less often since COVID); but when they're producing a music video, they don't just record one performance and call it a day. That would be lazy, and they can do better, and so they do. On the whole, I think Mountain King does a better job of integrating the story, video / action, and the arrangement with one another. But this is very good too, and has a lot going on musically, especially in the mashup section near the end. Native speakers often confuse the spellings of "lose" and "loose", but in this case, it's intentional.
