I’ve never in my life said “whiz bang” but for some reason I said it twice in this video. I don’t even know what it means, I just thought it sounded like something an old person would say like “fangled” or “bees knees” 😂😂
Also, I noticed after watching this video again that the sigma lens is Intermittently back focusing, meaning the actual focus is just a little bit behind what I intended to focus on. This is a little bit of a “third party lens problem” for which sigma has a bit of a bad reputation, however with my mirrorless cameras the issue hasn’t occurred at all (completely different kind of focusing system). The remedy is either to get a Sigma USB dock for like $80 (I think) and calibrate the lens with Sigma’s free software, or else some DSLR bodies will have the ability to compensate for this within the body. I’d call this problem half having an older camera and half having a third party lens (spending $1,200 on a lens instead of $2,000😂)

Excellent video! Just like the Canon R vs RP video I watched before this. You have an excellent talent for making these informative videos. Far better than the majority I have seen on KZbin. Definitely learnt a few new things too. Thank you & keep up the great work mate. :)

timer? maybe a remote? i know its a bit cheap but hey , control is nice to have with your pricey stuff but im here taking lessons from the expert, even tho you can do this with a 20 dollar lens, stick to hair 🤟maybe i'll make a video about using 1200 dollar scissors vs 2000 😅

You should totally make that video (or any video)- a lot of prefer to hear about stuff from the perspective of someone with only a little bit more experience than them as opposed to someone who is at the top of their field. It makes the content more relatable. That was a hard pill for me to swallow when I watched casual self hair styling videos out perform videos from the best hairdressers in the world, but it’s just sorta how KZbin works. You’re right about the shutter remote though, I could have convoluted an already bloated video with an explanation of what that is but I tried to keep it a little more streamlined to focus on the body itself.

@@andrewdoeshair i quit smoking and sugar and maybe my first comment is pretty whack, my bad. i bet if you had to you could cut hair with almost any scissors with a good edge, likewise if what you want is depth of field and sharp contrast there are other ways...obviously there is consideration made for your clientele, but cheap lens like the industar 50 russian lens ( a leica copy), and i'd imagine that an even cheaper option could be something such as a cctv lens with the correct mount can do surprisingly nice portraiture, a more mainstream choice could be a zeiss jena tessar. again sorry for the sarcasm, its not towards you, I watch many vids to learn lenses and cameras and I bet a remote and a tv monitor from the hdmi out of the camera would help you a bunch and thats cheap to try. I should have just said that instead of being a jerk! lol have a good one

@@dietalarmclock2607 I’m with you on the cheap quirky old lenses. I’ve got a 1970’s Sears 135mm F2.8 I picked up for $17 on eBay and I love it, but for the average hairdresser (my typical follower) it becomes Greek telling them how to find the right adapters to use such a lens, let alone how to actually manually focus. I made this video with a handful of actual interactions in mind, where a barber spent $2,500-$4,000 on a camera body and a kit lens when what they were seeking was the results of literally any old camera body with a fast short telephoto lens. I ended up shifting the verbiage to “cheap vs pro” because I guess it’s more click baity and a broader more general set of terms, but also because it’s easier to say than “general use kit lens” and “short telephoto fast prime.” One of the fun things about photography is how nearly limitless creativity and know-how will make the possibilities- if you’re good you can make any camera look good. But since I’m not taking to people who are good yet, I try to keep it all as simple as possible, like stuff you can find in almost any best but.
