Ok so I'm curious, how's the torque? I noticed you keeping the spike off the log. I'll run full comp 24" on a decent 10-10 without any issues so I'm interested if its that big of a performance boost?
@toocheaptosmoke4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I haven't ran a good running stock saw for comparison. If I had used the dogs on that oak it would bog it down, I tried some softer wood you lean on it a lot more. My saw seems to have two sweet spots for cutting, one lower rpm where it's torque is strongest, but also higher up where it likes to rev. Something in the timing or porting may need tweaked, I never had a saw with such a wide range of cutting rpm?

This is the best video I've seen on a PM 10-10 yet!! I've got an old one, that's identical to your collectors item 10-10, except mine's used, like the one you ported in this video. And I have the same problem with mine that you had with yours. The piston looks like it's in good condition, but the rings have too much of a gap, and the saw doesn't have much compression at all. I can BARELY get it to crank. And, as you found out, it's damn near impossible to find a set of OEM rings for 1 3/4 inch mac piston. When you got the aftermarket piston kit (the same one I found on ebay), were the gaps closer to what they needed to be? Thanks in advance!!!
@toocheaptosmoke2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I can't recall the exact end gaps, but they were definitely way closer to spec than the old ones, haha. It's surprising that certain parts like that arent easier to find.
@jbplays73022 жыл бұрын
@@toocheaptosmoke I agree 100%! The 10-10's are one of the most popular saws in some areas of the country. And I'm sure there's thousands of them out there with scored pistons and cylinders, that are just sitting in people's garages, because they wont crank. And these saws are much better quality than a Stihl or Husqvarna homeowners saw. And MUCH easier to work on! So, I wonder why good aftermarket p/c kits aren't available for these? I'm going to order one of the piston kits like the one you bought, and bring this old saw back to life. And I'll probably put some new seals, gaskets, and a carb kit on it as well, just because... Maybe some day I'll get the kuhonis swollen enough to attempt a port job..?? Thank you for the reply! Have a GREAT WEEKEND, my friend!!!!

What will happen if your ring gaps are lined up with the transfer ports
@toocheaptosmoke3 жыл бұрын
On the small narrow transfer ports the ring ends just bridge the gap and are fine. On a wider ports the ring ends squeeze out of the piston and can catch, either breaking the ring or causing accelerated wear.

Hey, I have a question unrelated to this video lol. Working on a 77(I think) TXL440 might be a 76 with a tx440 motor.. too lazy to go outside and check the vin plate. Anyways, the motor is EC44PT-06. Has a closed face clutch. I'm trying to find the proper puller for it, not the spider tool, but the bolt type to pull it off the crank. Manual says this is the puller (2870130) but can't find anywhere.This site shows the two piece, which I believe is correct. www.fullthrottletahoe.com/fullthro/publicstore/images/catalog-specs/09SnowPages/09Snow%20710.pdf Also too cheap to spend 50-60+ bucks, so trying to figure out if the bolt is a 3/4-16 or what. Also there is this stupid plastic thing that is being a b1tch to get out without destroying. Probably won't be able to find a replacement. Do you have anything laying around that you could check to see what size and thread pitch the puller bolt is? Much appreciated!

the -06 motor sounds like it may be a '80-'82 TX-C engine? These and the TX-L indy motors had a very unique medium depth taper for the crank, not as deep as early engines, but deeper than later engines. These clutches may have had a specific puller, but the threads in the clutch should be the same as all the other "standard" clutch pullers, so a regular universal polaris puller should work.
