In hindsight I don't think the Octo AIs were actually diffrent, but just that in the moment it felt harder, I have 1 final story mode video which is a giant review on it vs Octo Expansion coming Wednesday, so look forward to that.

Its not the hardest thing in the world but me and basically everyone I've watched play spent at least 3 minutes analyzing the entire thing before going through it, but no, my man said "oh this looks cool" and immediately did it with no fear or hesitation

I think GPS was way way harder, mainly because you didn't get hero suit upgrades like in Alterna, you were just stuck with your vanilla octoshot; plus, in GPS you had to defend the objective, whereas in here you can stall as much as you want without consequence

Yeah, it's super easy to cheese the AI in this because there's no objective to defend. If you're struggling all you have to do is hide in ink and they'll take forever to find you, and if they happen to swarm you just run away using curling bombs and most of them won't even follow

A tip for anyone trying after alterna. In the finish of the first section, the water does not dissolve the ink on the moving platforms. If you're not comfortable in your abilities to ink on that section, you can just ink everything before hand.

This would definitely have been harder than IA3 for me, if I was still in the same skill level I was back then. I've gotten so much better since I got splatoon 2 (I got the game in fall 2018 and completed all of octo expansion before I even hit level 20), that the only hard part was the octolings. The main strategy I used was just being patient and using specials at the right time. I definitely think it was better than IA3, but I also loved the challenge of constant fighting IA3 has.

I would be curious to see how well the AI could do in an actual battle environment. It might be nice if you have a DC during a game to get an AI teammate in the disconnected players place so you at least have a chance of pulling back. It probably wouldn't do much at high levels but I'd be super interested to see how it would affect ranked battles

I really like the fact AA is easier than IA3, just because it's a part of the base campaign and by design is friendlier to newer players. Whereas OE was built to be a challenge gauntlet for more experienced players. Seeing stuff like this makes me so excited for what this game's DLC will have to offer!

I think the key with this level is patience and confidence. You have to jump with confidence, not fear otherwise you'll undershoot and fall. If you try to rush through, you die easier.

If you try spamming the canned Specials in the last part, it actually becomes harder because you're actively giving up ground to the octolings, on top of the 3rd phase having there own, so it's easier to do what Chara did, being careful and grabbing them when you have time, maybe skipping one or two your not comfortable using.

Yeah, I figure skipping a bunch of the special and getting straight to the late huge aoe ones and the zipcaster for the double armour has to be the play.

@@NorthernDruid The armor actually isn't really worth it, at least in my experience. To easy to lose it on a whim, not strong enough to save your standard armor from getting shredded a second later, especially if you loose control of the arena.

Yeah this level is definitely significantly easier than IA3. It’s still challenging sure, but it’s not nearly as bad as other people says it is imo. It’s still really enjoyable tho. I’ve always loved final levels that test all of you skills like Mario Galaxy 2’s Ultimate Test or Perfect Run and Celeste’s Chapter 7/ The Summit and this is no exception

IA3 feels easier because after Phase 3, the difficulty is significantly decreased from there on out. Also, the two blocks you can duck around makes all Splashdowns irrelevant

My friends recently bought me a capture card and asked me to finish the story so they could watch me play the extra stage that tripped them up so much. I beat it so quickly with so few mistakes. It was certainly hard, but I've been doing my squid rolls and surges in comp while improving my strategic approach before jumping into anything, so it was easy to figure out when I paced myself. I also tend to do worse in stages the more I fail, so failing so few times helped me a lot. Even with the Octolings, I already was using flanking strategies. They don't attack most of the time until they spot you, so you can hide in corners and they won't react in time when you pop out after they pass by.

Honestly out of secret final stages, this one is very forgiving. 4 checkpoints with practically 100s of lives you can use from power eggs. And the sections are really about equal to other hardest levels in story mode, but twice as long

I'm almost certain the first section of After Alterna is actually based roughly on Sasuke/Ninja Warrior- the giveaway was starting with the angled stepping blocks. The moving wall hang is analogous to a zipline, and there's also a section where you have to progress by hanging by a bar you have to move up a series of hooks, which could correspond to the ink rail section.

New splatoon player here. It took me HOURS to finish this stage 💀 im more of a puzzle solving kinda player than platforming you see and this made me wanna scream and cry fr. It felt so good to finish this and there’s noticeable improvements in my movements too when i play against others as well. The way i can do more rolls and jumps so confidently makes me appreciate this a lot. I also wanna say how it’s really inspiring how you shred through all those levels with such ease! i got a long way too go at getting better at this game haha!

the last wave of the octoling section can be made slightly easier by sticking around the back right corner (relative to where you spawn) since they will usually only come at you one at a time from there. also i found that part easier to do without going for the canned specials, tbh also the spiral in the rail section can be cheesed bc you can just jump down to a lower rail to go through it again (something i had to do bc my turning wasn't fast enough lol) great video!

The Octoling section made me want a Splatoon 3 equivalent of the Cyber Grind from ULTRAKILL. Just an endless version of that Octoling fight with a constantly shifting stage, infinite Octoling reinforcements, and increasingly difficult waves. Make an international leaderboard for it too! I want to see who can last the longest against an endless stream of Octolings!

Me, being new to the series, completed the solo campaign after lots of hardships, and this level felt very, very hard (I'm kinda bad at FPS and TPS, although this game is lots of fun) My worst experience in this level was when I could finally defeat the final wave of enemies, just to be hit by a last ditch rain special just a few steps before entering the final jump thingy. It took me a lot of tries after that to beat this stage.

The only time I died was with the Octolings, but boy did they wear me out for a while. At least until I realized the special cans respawn and it doesn't matter if you use it anyway. I love when Splatoon puts in extra challenges like this and IA3. Practicing them to improve your reaction time is lots of fun to me. Edit: I didn't realize they respawned infinitely though, so 🤭

I actually managed to first try this level! I think the thing about the octolings is that you just need to be patient, go for easy picks, and know when to retreat. My only life lost in this level was cause I got too cocky and went in guns-a-blazing during their special spam (my only OTHER life lost was when I walked off the edge of a cliff after being distracted by my dog sleeping next to me... um, we don't talk about that one).

The difficulty plummets after rails, so it’s really funny how almost all deaths were in the final one with the amount of space and resources you get. You know, two things you have basically none of in IA3.

When you pick up the Zipcaster, armour spawns on top of each of the two pillars, too, that can only be reached while using the Zip. If you're having trouble beating wave 3, you can try leaving the last octo of wave 2 alive, cycle specials until you get Zip, grab the armour, then go into wave 3 with full armour and whatever your favourite special is.

I kid you not, I kept on dying at the near-end of segment 1 because I wanted the Power Egg tin so badly. I'd ink EVERY SINGLE PLATFORM from above before even stepping on them to ensure safety and I'd still often die. I thought I'd be finished once I got on that launchpad. Once I got to not only a new section, but a section with TARGETS ON RAILS, I legit started to cry. Righteous Rails and Target Town were torture enough with Bamboo and Stringer, now this? Oh yeah, I never do the "respawn from checkpoint" thing either. So all in all that section was the hardest Splatoon ANYTHING I ever did. 10/10 Level.

First part was hardest for me. This was mostly because of the moving towers near the end, for some reason, I couldn't stay stuck on the wall even with the squid surge charge. The rails was also very hard for me because i can't aim well. Block puzzle was easy, and oddly Id idn't have much issue on the Octolings. Seeing you breeze through this really does hurt me on the inside a little though lol.

At the time of doing AA, the only working controller I had the r2 button snapped right off, making it incredibly hard to shoot anything without digging a finger into my controller. My pissed off self spent about 1.5 hours dealing with all the intricacies that having a screwed controller meant for me. After dying who knows how many times to the 1 vs army octos, I accidently quit to menu. I proceeded to head to the store, pissed and refusing to play anything else until AA had been utterly destroyed.

I-- wow... After Alterna took me a whole month to complete. I completed every level in January (which is pretty impressive, since I got the game on Christmas, and it's also my first Splatoon game) but only just beat After Alterna yesterday. (aka the 21st of February.) The target and Octoling sections both took me AN HOUR to complete, with many deaths, and watching Chara speed through them was absolutely INSANE. Also, petition for Nintendo to let you play the different sections of AA as their own level. I really wanna do that Octoling fight again, but I don't wanna go through the rest of that suffering.

I… honestly don’t know if this is harder than IA3 or not. It took me way less time to beat, but I am a lot better now. I remember thinking it was a little underwhelming in terms of difficulty, especially since I beat the last section with only splashdowns (and without sub weapons accidentally lol) in less than 10 tries, but honestly, I’d say it’s probably only slightly easier than IA3. Either way, if this was a taste of what’s to come, I can’t wait for the Off the Hook DLC!

I have never been super good at this game, (even though I love it) but I made myself play motion controls for the entire story so I could get used to them. Let’s just say, after alterna took me AT LEAST an hour. I really don’t remember fully, my brain has already blocked out all the pain.

Seeing this level made me wish we had a Splatoon 3 level creator (like Mario Maker n stuff) I know that people would go wild with it, and we'd get a ton of extra hard splatoon challenges, movement trials, etc It could be called like, "Splatoon 3: Alterna Lab" or something like that

In GPS 2.0, the specials really aren't bait as you can control what side they spawn on

The octoling level was the most fun for me, it was pretty easy for me but getting all those octoling splats was pretty satisfying

For anyone having trouble with the octolings just stay to the edges unless you absolutely have to go to the middle

After Alterna is fun, a little too easy for the hardest level tho. Admittedly, the first part of the level was the most challenging for me and Chara just does it in one try xD

not using the specials made it easier for the octoling section imo, easier to focus on shooting and swerving instead of chasing after the cans😭

I speedran Single Player when the game released so I went into this before any guides or livestreams were out for me to check what I was doing. The only part I struggled in would be the platforming just because I’m very impatient in Splatoon, the rest was just a nice flex of skills and were just fun to do and I loved it. So glad they at least gave us something to do for 100%, but I want something back after doing 1000% waah

I kept struggling on the first section, especially with that jump off the platform into the small rails and the moving blocks, then as soon as I got past it I didn’t die once. I still haven’t beaten inner agent 3

I remember taking hours on the after alterna and chara gets past all of it in basically one life
