*Small Note* 17:03 is the losers finals of Stormbreak, a major tournament, I also did not mention it but Crab has a 1 shot combo by using the 90 hit and one normal shot to kill quickly without being fully charged. So yes more points to Crab.

Crab doesn’t need too much change to feel fair, and what seems broken in play testing doesn’t always end up translating competitively

It's actually more AP than Quick Super Jump. A main of Sub power gives 13 AP worth of super jump which is equal to one main and one sub of it. And a main and one sub of sub power gives 18 AP with is a little less than a pure one main and 3 subs of QSJ, which would be 19 AP And one main and 4 subs of sub power gives 30 AP which is equal to 3 whole mains of QSJ

It's worth mentioning that Wave Breaker is literally a life saver for salmon run. If your teammates are dying and there's too many bosses around, throwing it will save your teammates around including yourself if thrown right before you die. Even if this video didn't account for salmon run, figured it'd be worth mentioning.

I would disagree with a few of these things. I feel like you've kinda stripped the identity from some of these things and I feel like you didn't do enough for one of them. Here's what they actually need Angle shooter -Significantly increased range. This is so that it can bounce much more and have that fun bouncing thing that bloblobber has but also like 3x longer than it is currently -Significantly increased area around the line where it marks enemies. This is so that people can't just swim under it and are more likely to get hit -Increased lingering of line (probably about point sensor length of time). This is so that it's actually a barrier that affects the game -10 damage on line. Just cuz. Toxic mist - I actually agree with most of your changes, I just don't think it should have damage, and I have a few other changes -Lingers on enemies for half a second after leaving mist -If you squid roll into it, it cancels squid roll and changes momentum to max running speed within mist -Slightly increased area of effect Sprinkler - I disagree with pretty much all of this. It completely strips the entire point of the sub away and turns it into a weird turret/mine type thing without addressing the actual issues of the sub. Here's what it needs -Increased 'attack speed' (i don't know how else to phrase this but just the speed which it gives off paint). -Stays in stage 1 mode for much longer and only decays to stage 2, never to stage 3 -Reduced damage to objects in stage 1, no change to stage 2 object damage -Increased area around the base of sprinkler that it paints when thrown

It would still work competitively speaking and even for weapon viability, but... well, I mean if you were to remove the ability to swim underneath it, you would also be taking away some cool counterplay from it and basically make it worthless to play with since it isn't fun to use anymore. There is no element of player vs player, it's instead weapon vs player, and there's no sense of fun or honor in that, is there? Aside from that, I like everything else, though I did have a crackpot idea for Sprinkler to essentially give already inked turf a golden coating, basically armoring it so that opponents would need to shoot at the turf the Sprinkler is protecting more. This would make the Sprinkler an actual threat, as it would basically create a sluggish terrain to travel through, and would make other better inking like the Aerospray be way more viable in competitive play. I'm just worried that this idea would backfire and create a meta that is *way too* slow and sluggish, that matches would slow to a crawl and that games such as Rainmaker and especially Splat Zones would become unplayable with this version of the Sprinkler, though if the Sprinkler is balanced perfectly, then it could work and it could do more good than harm in the long run.

I think curling bombs could use any 2 of the following possible major buffs: An actually good reticle that shows where the curling will actually go. More ink on both trail and explosion (same lethal radius though) 45% ink consumption so you can quickly throw out two at the same time to be more vague.

Here’s a buff concept for the shark: Definitely buff it’s vulnerability frames cause it’s terrible (I’d say a near second before the shark explodes). However, now you can jump off the shark for an added flexible option. When you do you will be a bit vulnerable in the air but you can still shoot with your main weapon or go into swim form. The shark will be given a seeker mechanic where it will go after the nearest player or just explode naturally if it can’t find anybody. It makes the special less vulnerable, more helpful for the users safety, and most importantly, a nuisance for the enemy team.

My #1 hot take here is that the curling bomb is massively underrated (bias from an L-3 main). It has decent paint. The delay effect to send it not as far and give it a bigger burst area is way too often disregarded. I think it can defend space from high ground extremely effectively, more so than even splat bombs. It deals damage on contact (which combos with L-3). Lots of people think of curling as a mobility sub, but that's honestly just a small part of it. If you can get good at the charge timing you can send it basically anywhere you want to control tons of space lethally. Yes it struggles in close-quarters which definitely makes burst and splat better, and fizzy still outclasses it in paint, but I think a lot of what curling has to offer has been overlooked.

Honestly I think charging curling bomb needs to be bigger, even if its gear dependant. It could get suction bomb range at max charge with like 20 damage but as long as it contests area when charged and it's not just a movement tool, then it would be good

idk why people never says that charging it is important. I throw a ton of curling bombs because I like that weapon. I think like maybe 60% or 80% of the kills I get with the curling bombs are charged curling bombs. I even charge it for middle distance; I feel even charging it for like a fraction of a second, gives it a good confortable distance that is easier to aim, and also it gives a bigger explosion than just throwing it without charging it and that would be too long and maybe bounce somewhere you didn't aim. Unless you intend to bounce aiming, then I suggest always charge your curling bombs.... I don't want to brag, but I feel like after 2k kills with this, I maybe know something about these... though I still feel there is so much to discover from these curling bombs.

The combo is overlooked. I use it a lot on reef-lux because if you can aim, they guaranteed get one shot. The only thing holding reef-lux back from one shots is the shot spread taking away *1* bullet. If they are hit with 20 damage, they can very easily get hit by only 2 bullets.

That would be too random. It should have buffs to the droplets to encourage people to fight in the storm. For example, while getting the droplets on you, you could get ink rec, maybe even an armor effect if you stayed in for 2 seconds.

My concept for an ink vac buff is to allow the user to shoot the ink shot without having to fully charge or wait for the timer to run out by clicking the right trigger again, giving the player the option to use ink vac more frequently and act as a tank refill.

I absolutely love the splash wall right now. I’ve been playing a lot of splash zones and since most the maps are extremely open it can block snipers from hitting you so you can actually make a move on the zone.

An idea I have to buff Angle Shooter is to make it a skill shot. It can keep its location effect, and everything it has right now, but I'll add new effects that will increase its depth and options. First of all, the damage that the marker deals with a direct hit is increased from 30 to 50. And now, if the marker bounces off of a wall, floor, or any surface, it will deal double damage, meaning that if you manage to throw the marker, it bounces off of something, and then gets a direct hit, it will do 100 damage, enough to be a 1 hit KO. Of course, this will be extremely hard to do, but for extremely skilled players that can calculate the angles and learn how to effectively bounce off of walls and hit people, they will be rewarded with a one hit KO, rather than a measly 30 damage. This will actually encourage players to try to bounce it off walls and land this skill shot, which is exactly what makes this sub unique. Right now no one bothers with the bounce, because it's unreasonably hard to do, and the reward is pathetic. Now that the reward is high, there's finally a reason to use the main gimmick of the Marker, and not just throw it straight forward, making it more than just a worse Point Sensor.

Keep the damage to 30, or maybe 35, and then make it double if it bounces. This thing would be able to instantly cover a choke point with no reaction time for the opponent. Having it 1 shot would be too strong.

It's not super hard to throw the Angle Shooter at the ground and have it bounce pretty much parallel along it to hit someone who's not jumping. Turning that into a practically zero warning oneshot from outside E-litre range sounds waaaaaay overtuned.

As someone stuck with curling, cooking them can be situationally useful, but they are STUPIDLY EXPENSIVE. Like any positive you could maybe get from curling is nullified by the fact that they use up so damn much of the ink tank. So even if you wanted to cook one, you better be doing so very effectively.

They should make the shark like a Dva bomb you can jump off of if you choose, playing into the number of mixups that are possible. It would continue to the full possible length if you hop off, but you still have the options to either ride it there or stop it prematurely if you stay on

I'm still really new and dont play a lot of ranked,but I think reefslider is good for new players to the game. Helps you learn how to gauge distance, teaches you to watch for a moment when the opponents are focused on something else to catch them off guard, and it's always fun when you accidentally hit the panic button in a bad fight and find yourself still alive :) glass-half-full I guess

So true! I used to love the reefslider and use it in every turf war match (The feeling u get when you line up a good shot and end up splatting more than 2 players is just *Immaculate*). But when I got to level 10 and started playing ranked, the players got too good and it didn't work anymore :(

I feel like Point Sensor could actually do object damage, it kind of makes sense as an E.M.P like ability, so maybe being caught in the initial blast from Point Sensor deals ~150 damage to objects (maybe less to rainmaker shield) which would also make the sub great on weapons with lower object damage to make them viable in the meta

Unironically I don't understand why Sprinkler needs to decay. If it's in a contested area, the enemy will likely kill it either intentionally or with AoE. If it's NOT in a contested area, it just paints turf that it already painted after awhile. It has a natural timer built in, in that regard. Doesn't need an artificial timer on top of that.

A visual change i would really want for tri-strike is for the landing mark to be able to switch between inkling and octoling icons. It's somthing they did for splatoon 1 with the Octo striker and i was kinda dissapointed to see it always default to inkling icon in splatoon 3.

I just had this really strange thought about a buff for Toxic Mist. Since TM already reduces Ink it would also be a cool thing if it could further mess with the enemy by reducing their Special Meter gradually so it could be like a Special counter Sub. What do you guys think?

My idea to buff Zipcaster is to add a skill shot to the special. If you hit a wall, ceiling, floor, or any surface, you will pull yourself toward that surface, like normal. But if you hit a player directly with the sticky hand, you will pull them towards you instead, while they are being pulled, neither you or the opponent can attack, and the enemy will have 0.5 seconds of endlag after the pull ends, meaning that the Zipcaster user is left in an advantageous position, perfect for getting quick kills. Of course, landing a direct hit with the Zipcast ability would be hard to do on a player, but extremely rewarding if it works, it would also allow you to target backilners without having to go all the way to the enemy side of the map, so your teammates can help you take them down, or simply pull them out of position, acting like a unique kind of aggressive displacement.

@@ProChara Maybe, but you wouldn't be able to pull teammates, and usually you would only pull opponents to quickly Splat them right after. I do agree though, maybe there could be a situation where the Zipcaster pulls someone and then the special ends, leaving someone in a weird position that would be inaccessible normally. Still, even just adding 5 damage to the explosion that happens when you land somewhere would allow you to Zipcast right onto someone for a quick one hit KO, that would be cool as well.

Toxic mist’s biggest flaw IMO is its total lack of paint and damage. I wish it behaved more like a mini ink storm and either dealt chip damage to opponents caught in it or had slight ink coverage in its AoE.

For line marker the main problem is there is no situational where you would prefer burst bomb as both are low ink cost combo tools but the line marker is harder to hit with less damage, less paint and a location effect really needs a buff or even a rework

10:00 a fix for the shredding of object would be to make the inkjet shoot like an explosher. so that it goes through the target, and explodes when it hits a wall. this will not change anything for if it hits an enemy, since they would be dead already anyway.

Some buff ideas for the low tiers: Line Marker: Gets a small "Auto Aim" when bouncing off a wall(not the floor). This should make it capable of being a recon weapon. When hitting, the marker explodes in a small burst and inks the area under the opponent. Nothing big, just a little annoyance and to slow down the opponent when running away. Toxic Mist: I guess when squid roll is such a counter, it should get an increased effect for that specifically. Making you drop like half way compared to a normal roll. A thing I would be interested in testing would be how the mist would work as a deployable ability like wall. The bottle stays for longer but can be shortened by shooting the bottle. Maybe even increase the mist over time. Lets say it stays for 8 second max and grows up to double the size as normal in that time. Of course other adjustments like cost, throw range or only one mist at a time would also apply. Reefslider: When exploding you jump off the slider in a direction(basically the drop roll gear ability)

This would solve many problems with the sub: it would make it impossible to squid roll inside the radius of the mist, make the slow more effective because now they are slowed and trapped at the same time, now it can charge your special, and it adds new utility, like quickly painting walls or your feet, which can be useful on slower weapons, similar to how burst bomb works. Basically, Toxic Mist would function like the old toxic mist, but with the quick paint of a burst bomb. That way Frontline weapons can use it for the mobility and trapping potential much better. Even better, Tri Slosher will finally have a functional kit. The Inkjet works well on it, and with this buff/rework, it can use the Toxic Mist similarly to how it used the Burst Bomb in Splatoon 2 to increase its mobility, just a little worse at that.

One buff i'd like to see for zipcaster is to make both the arm stretch and pull much faster. Right now when you cast to a far location it takes a long time for the arm to attach and and even longer for you to get pulled in. Having both of these parts be insanely fast would give opponents less time to react and pin down the user. This wouldn't fix its biggest weakness of being vulnerable while on the ground fighting, but i think that it's necessary for counterplay. I like inkstorm and i want it to have a bit more of a presence than it currently does, so i want to add a little something extra. First off, slightly lower the speed the cloud travels, this means it will be able to contest a specific area for longer rather than just going away from the objective. Second, add new ability in the form of lightning strikes that will occur randomly within the radius every 1.5 seconds. However if a player is standing in the storm, an icon will appear and the lightning strike will lock onto them (think lightning from breath of the wild) dealing 90 damage on a direct hit and 60 damage in a small explosion radius around the size of a curling bomb. I think giving this to inkstorm would actually make it risky to stay within the storm instead of just ignoring the damage and walking away.

As the only L-3 player in existence, I can say the curling bomb is a tactical sub. Over time, I've been able to cancel enemy rush-downs with a slow curl, and combo stragglers with the damage. ( Me want burst bomb, though.)

It's weird, despite how good some of the specials are, none (outside of Tenta Missiles) feel as "oppressive" as some were in Splatoon 2. And most of the good ones only need some number tweaks to tone them back to a more balance state (although a range nerf for Crab might be needed but that's more because of the maps being so small). The weaker specials do need something though, maybe add more effects to an enemy player who is hit by the Ink Vac to make it less of a 3v4, Ink Jet having higher damage/radius on its shot, at etc.

Imo sprinklers main use is putting it on walls facing ur team, so the enemy cant hit it easily, and it keeps ur side somewhat painted passively

Hot take here, but give Reef Slider instant invincible start-up. Wait wait wait here me out Panic button specials are generally bad design, but I honestly think with how punishable Slider is on whiff, it can work. Think of it like a EX Shoryuken or wake-up super in Street Fighter games. Those spend meter to provide frame 1 invul for the sake of getting people off you, but they're fair since if they're blocked or dodged, the user is massively punishable. High level players in fighting games have to consider that their opponents have these options and play accordingly, baiting and punishing these invincible moves and its reasonable enough to do this. It works well there and adds a nice layer to the push-and-pull of offense vs defense, with offense usually being favored I feel like Slider is both linear enough and punishable enough to have similar utility and still be well designed. If you gave Slider invincibility of start-up, players could still follow it and punish, weakening its panic use. But it would be a nice and unique option for the slider user, and opponents could recognize this and position accordingly when they see the Slider weapon has special ready. the main concern I'd see here is using Slider to retreat so they can survive and have their explosion go unpunished, but then they'd be giving up substantial ground to do that which the attacking team could capitalize on

When it comes to crabs, as a blaster I try to hit over the crab and kill the person on it, but consistently crab players are able to slightly move either forward or back away from the radius in a way that, either the crab somehow tanks the indirect hit, or it goes over them entirely, and I get splatted immediately after my second shot. I wonder about this interaction. And if crabs should be... even more immobile or something. Or have the hurtboxes adjusted so crab doesn't block hits on the inkling.

Crab Tank outlasts the suction portion. What ends up happening is that the Crab Tank quickly fills up the Vac and kills the user while they are immobile. Hydra is the same way.

There is one thing that bothers me about the Toxic Mist and it only took me until Chuggaaconroy’s Splatoon 2 Let’s Play to realize it. You’re breathing mist in, you’d think the effects will linger for a bit as soon as you leave, but they go away immediately upon leaving, which doesn’t make sense to me. That’s one buff I’d like to see on the Toxic Mist, having the effects gradually go away once you leave so that you’re still a bit vulnerable even after escaping the mist.

As a Jet main, I personally find Angle to a very good sub, but it's also VERY limited as you said. It takes a ton of skill compared to the much better torpedo. Granted, Torpedo is harder to ping enemies with, but observant cephalopods will take note of the torpedo's direction. Angle is better at revealing location and flies faster but takes much more skill to use. I ran a test, and surprisingly, 67% of my kills were with my sub, 32% with Main, and 1% with special (i can't use vac for the life of me, still learning it) However, i completely agree with your angle placement. Very limited sub, but feels so nice once you learn it

So fun fact Ultra stamp could maybe be used as a mobility tool because without stamping it its actually incredibly fast on its own. I have had matches where people run through our base and thats it they just run and its very jarring and everyone noticed them but no one caught them so maybe it could be used to get to flank spots quickly

When I first saw the crab tank, I thought it would be fun, but pretty bad. When I first tried crab tank, I thought it had too little HP, but I enjoyed the splash o matic, and my favorite sub is the burst bomb. Fast forward, crab tank is best special, splash o matic is used a lot, so whenever I play it with friends, they think I'm doing it because its powerful, without realizing I suck!

the grenade that looks like a fish is called "torpedo" in English. he most likely did not mention its targeting function because once the torpedo targets, it moves slowly through the air and can easily be destroyed by rapid fire weapons.

this might not be ideal but what if you were able to throw the line marker at the ground, and instead of creating a detection trail it created a line of ink with the same bouncing properties. now, this would make it a far better curling bomb but still I think being able to double as a mobility tool by creating a quick and instant ink line to swim in, plus it IS a marker so it making a line by sliding along the ground makes sense.

I remember in the Pokémon splatfest, I hid a beakon on the enemy side in inkblot. I could easily impenetrable the enemy base after death and they weren’t able to find the beakon for 1 and a half to 2 minutes.

Some changes I would do: -Not directly sub related, but sub saver no longer can increase the number of subs you can throw in one ink tank. Big design oversight imo, and it takes care of the lde issue -Iru buffed across the board -Splat bomb goes to 75%, but has slightly less white ink frames (like 5 less max) -Curling bomb to 55% -Burst bomb either gets more ink frames or 45% -Fizzy nerf reverted due to sub saver nerf -Line marker to 30%, and possibly make the tripwire deal 20 damage -Replace mist with disruptor, but it's now 65% and doesn't slow you down as much. Also disables squid roll now (mist is dead with squid roll in the game imo) For specials: -Patch missiles out, fixing it just gives us tristrike 2 -Crab needs a range nerf, big time. And not a small one either, probably 15%. I would nerf the rapid fire dps a bit too (32->30) -Unparriable shark was step one, step 2 is reduce the end lag and probably more damage buffs Inkjet does 160 damage on directs -Stamp rush mode does 45 splash and 150 direct (the air attack is also buffed to 150). Also, it's now a lightweight weapon -Zipcaster no longer uses your ink tank as a timer, but lasts a bit shorter than if you would do nothing with it now -Ink vac, inkjet and zip can now be interrupted manually by pressing the special button again

I've commented this on a different video, but I think Toxic Mist should automatically end Rolls/Surges when entering it, prevent these from being used inside it, and deal small continuous damage. Maybe reduce the ink cost a bit, but I'm not sure if that would be overkill with the above. Maybe Curling Bomb could have a "curve" feature where it turns slightly if you hold left or right while throwing it? Or would that mess with strafing?

People were poo-pooing the crab at launch, but I loved it immediately. It's a big robot, so I'm biased to it. Still huge HP, decent mobility, and great painting and damage. There was and is no real downside to it. (It isn't a win-button, but still). I get a good laugh in B-tier when my opponents believe it's perfect. Ha-ha, get flanked!

I think that they cound honestly combine toxic mist qnd point sensor, the effect of the mist sticking around plus the locating of point would make it definitely more useful, not enough to move it up by much in the list but still better imo
