I love how this game proved that the skill gap in rocket league (and other games like it) isn't that big and casual players can do decently well against pros

The Subpar guys are casters, not pros. So they are actually a lot worse than pros. Rocket league has a huge skill gap in it, probably the biggest out of any game I've ever played, but they are playing heatseeker which evens out the playing field more than any other gamemode. If you want proof, look up the video of a RLCS pro named JSTN beating 7 gold players by himself.
