"Take steps to save steps?" Good reason they refer to you as Professor Milton? I can't believe that Woodmizer or others have not picked up on those shoes? If there is an opportunity to patent that, you should jump on it? Regardless, it speaks volumes, once again, that you are so willing to share tips and tricks like this with the rest of us! Yer the best Robert, thank you!! Is there any chance you will be attending Paul Bunyan this year? I just reserved my Airbnb and got my weekend pass..... I'm looking forward to it!!

WM knows about them, they are undeniably efficient, and I think WM is worried they will have to pay royalties to me. Who know? I won't be at the PB show, but I'm sure you will have lots of fun.

I get most of my parts from WM, but I still have to build some of the parts, myself.

Thank you, Robert, for another hugely educational and informative sawyer video. I thought all pull- backs had shoes already attached to them. I know now that distinct pullbacks are for specific jobs. You have shown by using shoed-pullbacks to strategically place cut boards on the out-feed table will increase your productivity and decrease your manpower and sawing time. My favorite SEAL saying is, "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Hello from Ken in Mobile. 💯👍👍

I always wondered what those guide fingers were for! I never saw them as doing anything useful. Now I understand and that’s satisfying. Thank you for pulling the curtain back!
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama19 күн бұрын
The guide finger are stupid looking contraption, but they do serve a purpose. They get a lot of stress when they do their job, that's why you'll see some of mine are bent sideways.

Good stuff Mr. Hobby Hardwoods. 😊. I always appreciate your videos. How are you liking the new concrete floor in your sawmill area?
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama18 күн бұрын
I really like it, the mill does slide occasionally, but not enough for me to go to the trouble to anchor it down. I'm glad I did it.
@rexhavoc298220 күн бұрын
Take a look at :51 and see the dip. Is the roller bunk on the near side factory?
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama19 күн бұрын
Yes, it is hydraulically raised and lowered, and is in a fully retracted position since I didn't need it for these logs and is actually a mechanism to raise tapered logs. The sawmill head has enough power to not need rollers, so most times it is simply extra acted and not used..
@rexhavoc298218 күн бұрын
@@HobbyHardwoodAlabama So your mill has 3 roller toe boards? My 40 came with the Drag Back but not the jingle Bells. I have made a tool that tilts a cant for lap siding using the toe boards, works verry well.
@jlooseround19 күн бұрын
I loved the content as always. But I have an lt15wide, so no drag back for me......drag off maybe
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama18 күн бұрын
I understand, I had an LT as well. It's an excellent mill, and I added full hydraulics to it, log tuner and log clamp. I may do a video on how to do the upgrades, they are very inexpensive and pretty easy to fabricate.

I've been admiring the cleverness of those shoes since I figured out what they do a few videos ago. Are they your invention?
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama19 күн бұрын
Yes, I came up with the idea many years ago and have used them on multiple mills of mine.
@KarlBunker18 күн бұрын
@@HobbyHardwoodAlabama Cool! I'm surprised sawmill manufacturers haven't "borrowed" the idea for their hydraulic mills.
@20sawlog106 күн бұрын
Robert, I copied the shoe you had on the 40 and use it on my TK-2000. I can drop waste slabs right where I want them but have trouble dropping boards exactly in the right spot. Are the shoes on your 70 a big improvement over what you had on the 40? If so I need to do some fabrication! Thanks for sharing. Larry
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama6 күн бұрын
What is happening? Please describe it more. Are yo able to trap and carry the boards? Are they dropping prematurely? Are they not dropping when you put it in froward? As a rule, yes the 70 shoes do better than the LT40 shoes because the LT40 shoe is fairly narrow, maybe 6 inches wide, and doesn't grab the board across its entire edge. The LT70 shoes, due to the nature of the multiple fingers, allow the entire edge of the board to be captured so is more stable. Also, of the ends of the logs are not very straight, the narrow LT40 style shoe allows it to be grabbed off balance and the board will have a tendency to twist and fall.
@20sawlog106 күн бұрын
@@HobbyHardwoodAlabama I'm able to trap and carry the boards just fine. They never drop prematurely. They do not drop sometimes when I go forward. A light just came on, my table is a roller table and I'm not getting enough resistance or hold back on the board when I go forward to drop it.

Random question. If I am wanting to sell wood that I am milling, what would be the most desired sizes people would buy, lengths and widths?
@HobbyHardwoodAlabama12 күн бұрын
A good start is what sizes are sold in stores, just beat their price and quality and you will sell if just fine.
